Astrid: I can't attest to the education, experience or qualifications required to work as a designer at those stores. However, I can tell you something about myself. I am a Florida registered interior designer with over 30 years of experience in my field. I am not simply an interior decorator. I am an interior designer with professional credentials. I am NCIDQ certified. This means I have attained the highest level of profession certification in my field through my education, work experience and a lengthy examination process. Also, my skill set is not limited to one area, such as a kitchen or window treatment design. I am well versed in all areas of interior design. In addition, in order to keep my license/registration active, I must take continuing education classes every two years that cover building codes and HSW certification which pertains to issues related to health, safety and welfare.

One of the best things about my job is getting to meet new people, and I had so much fun with this Glen Ellyn client who, after many years of contemplation, came in to remodel her kitchen and bath. We planned to tear out her old kitchen and master bath and replace them with new, fresh designs that would feel at home with her cottage style home, take into consideration her love for the outdoors, and tackle some aging-in-place challenges. The master bath was a very tight space with an awkward vanity, tub and toilet. For ease of use, the client wanted to eliminate the tub and add a shower, so we transformed the tub into a zero threshold shower with a small flip-down bench and hand shower so that she can shower sitting down if needed and there is no risk of tripping on the shower curb. A small cone shaped vanity provides a unique look and provides storage. A wall hung toilet helps address some clearance issues, and grab bars at shower and toilet address safety concerns. There was even room for a small built in cabinet across from the toilet for towel and toiletry storage. Antique lighting and wallpaper combined with modern plumbing fixtures keep the space looking cottage-y but also up-to-date. These homeowners approached Renovisions to remodel their master bath. With their kids off at college it was time to do something for themselves. They wanted an elegant upscale look with a spacious shower with glass enclosure, a high-end whirlpool bathtub and custom built in for towels. Their existing tub presented a safety issue when they opened & closed the windows which were located directly behind the tub. The new design includes a free standing tub/whirlpool with custom rounded and removable wood panels to access electrical and plumbing components. This allows a safe pass way around the tub as well as a more open feel. The adjacent shower boasts a generous space with an open style created by the use of 3/8” shower glass enclosure on 2 sides. Custom cubbies and corner seat were built into the Crema marfil marble tiles. 12″x24″ porcelain tiles were installed in a herringbone pattern providing a beautiful and unique appearance setting a neutral stage to showcase the burgundy cherry custom vanities with beaded detail and matching tower with Victorian glass. Crema Marfil marble countertops on the vanities and slab on tub featured ogee edges lending a real elegant feel to the room. The Piece de Resistance was the exquisite antique brass widespread faucets, hand held shower, shower head, matching antique brass accessories and cabinet hardware all decorated with Swarovski cut crystals.

HNA Hardscape Project Award Winner Lopez Outdoor Living Williamsburg, VA Mid Atlantic Enterprise, Inc. The main objective for this project was to turn this Disabled American Veteran’s useless, hilly backyard into a complete outdoor living destination. This meant created a functional place for the client’s needs while being an exciting place for his young family to play and entertain. A major challenge in this project was altering the terrain to suit the design plan. We had to clear-cut the entire backyard and remove over 3,000 cubic yards of earth. Severe drainage issues also had to be corrected before installing the hardscape. To accommodate the elevation changes of the property and to support the necessary ADA compliant ramp, we had to construct two walls. One wall serves as a freestanding and retaining wall specially constructed on a large concrete footer and reinforced with rebar and concrete. We built everything custom; a new deck and pergola to blend the home and hardscape. This included a fully functional outdoor kitchen to meet the entertaining requirements of the clients, a gunite pool & spa large enough to accommodate the client’s ever-growing family, two fire bowls and a fire pit to add the “wow” factor the clients sought. In addition, a shed was built to complement the home while providing much needed storage space. We installed a full landscape; which included five 25 ft Magnolia trees to provide instant privacy in place of the overgrown woody area that was removed. To provide safety at night, we completed the project with strategically placed landscape lighting.
