Rivermeade Residence by Bill Caldwell of Harrison Design
Envisioned by the owner as a seamless assimilation of house and garden, Rivermeade was conceived as a collaborative effort between owner, architect, and landscape architect. The 2.5 acre site lies in the shadow of historic Standing Peachtree Fort at the Chattahoochee River and abuts a conservation easement, providing delightful views to a natural meadow and wildlife. The owner’s decree was to have a view to a garden from every window in the house, so the landscape was designed as seven garden rooms oriented in relation to the house. Each garden space accents the home’s design through the use of complementary building materials and features garden pieces collected by the owner over the years.
Since its construction, Rivermeade has been featured on the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Connoisseur’s Tour and provided a backdrop for Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse television sitcom. Photo by Lee Ann White

Aquadisia by David Young of DWY Landscape Architects, with David Lowe, Interior Designer, David K. Lowe Interior Design
Situated on a barrier island overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, this landscape is a dazzling mix of geometric form, carefully manicured lawns and the shaggy manes of numerous bamboo trees. The landscape architects collaborated closely with the owner to create a garden that takes full advantage of the site’s location, views and climate. The site’s sequence of designed spaces carefully balances large but simple geometric shapes with a well calibrated plant palette. Entry to the house is gained via a concrete walkway that passes over a water garden and through a glass cube flanked by marble Foo Dogs. The water garden continues to a glass-enclosed lower-level where a waterwall provides the perfect backdrop for a beachside spa and fire pit. The experience of this exquisite landscape is not limited to the ground; a wooden terrace allows full view of the Gulf and a new spiral glass staircase leads to a crow’s nest overlooking the property.

Alexander-Pound House by Will McDonald of Tunnell + Tunnell Landscape Architecture (TTLA), with Theodore Pound
Completed in 1957, the Alexander-Pound House was designed and occupied by revered Atlanta architect Cecil Alexander. One of Atlanta’s first modern homes, the house was featured in Life Magazine and Progressive Architecture.
The home, with its unique, round design and floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the forest below, has a special connection to its surrounding landscape. The original site and planting plans were designed by award-winning landscape architect Edward Daugherty in concert with the architect. Theodore and Susan Pound purchased the home in 2005 and with the help of the original plans and the architect’s guidance, fully restored the structure to its original beauty. In 2010, Tunnell & Tunnell Landscape Architecture was hired to rehabilitate the landscape after a windstorm caused the loss of over 30 mature oak and pine trees.
Today’s landscape features diverse plantings in striking combinations including grasses, perennials, mature woodland, and flowering shrubs. The landscape architects continue to work collaboratively with the Pounds to update the grounds for a new century. Photo courtesy Tunnell + Tunnell Landscape Architecture

Tilt Turn windows and doors can be combined in numerous configurations with casement, awning, and fixed windows as they utilize the same profile system. The seamless integration of windows provides a uniform appearance and customization beyond compare.
Tilt turn windows are a very unique and functional European window, applicable in endless applications. These windows are quickly gaining popularity in the United States. These windows have been manufactured for almost a hundred years, starting out in Europe in the early 1900′s. The beauty of a tilt turn window is its dual action. The window will open like a casement window and will tilt in at the top. Each window is customized to your exact specifications. Tilt turn doors are also available; the window is capable of being manufactured to fit large openings.
Glancing at the window, one cannot tell that the window has two functions. The window will swing inward when opened like a casement, with a screen on the window’s exterior. The window can then be hinged at the bottom and open inward at the top. Both actions are activated by the turn of a lever, which controls all the mechanics within the frame.
There are great benefits to these operations. Ample fresh air can pass into the room when opened like a casement. When the window is open at the top, it functions as a safety precaution. Small children cannot climb up the window and fall through it as in a traditional double hung window. The same function prevents intruders from entering a room. There is simply no way to climb up the window and fit through the small opening; but ventilation is still possible.
A tilt and turn window can be used in both residential and commercial applications. The window can be utilized in almost any room within a residential home. A home’s exterior is a great place for the windows as are sunrooms and pool enclosures. Commercial applications include restaurants, office buildings, and high rise apartments. A condominium on the thirtieth floor cannot typically be cleaned, except by a professional cleaning service; tilt turn windows open inward and allow for complete cleaning of the window units with out calling costly professionals.
Modern PVC windows are suitable for many types of buildings. Weather it's a historic building, detached private residence, office building or a multi-family house, stylish window profiles can achieve consistency of design between the building's exterior and interior walls.
PVC profile is made from UV stabilized materials protecting windows from solar expositon and discoloration. This problem is often observed with standard vinyl windows. In addition, our profiles are reinforced with galvanized steel, which makes them exceptionally durable. This feature is important for large windows, which require greater strength and stability.
High thermal insulation of PVC material combined with multi chamber profile structure ensures the highest comfort of living. In fact uPVC windows have the highest energy rating in the US outperforming all brands of wooden windows. Double or triple pane glass have the added benefit of being extremely effective in deadening sound. It makes PVC windows the best choice for buildings or homes located close to railroads or noisy roads

Saturday June 27, 10:00 to 11:30am | Riverside
Riverside Waterfront Residence by Susan Cohen of Susan Cohen Landscape Architect
A stately grove of white birches greets visitors at the entry to this hilltop home – a nod to the birch forests of the owner’s native Sweden. The house and gardens of this riverfront estate were carefully placed to take full advantage of the site’s spectacular waterfront panorama. A long bluestone terrace runs along the back of the house, providing ample seating areas from which to enjoy the views. Spring-flowering trees are planted throughout the landscape and a large country garden overflows with old-fashioned roses, perennials, and annuals. The lush flower border here, blooming in shades of pink, purple, blue, and yellow throughout the summer season, can also be seen from passing sailboats. At one end of this garden is a small spa, surrounded by flowers. The landscape, like the gracious house, was designed to be a welcoming place for gatherings of family and friends, and it serves this purpose well. Photo courtesy Susan Cohen

Hightree
Jay Griffith of Jay Griffith
This half-acre site is nestled into the Rustic Canyon neighborhood, and is the second collaboration between the landscape designer and client. Architect Steven Ehrlich designed the striking Modernist home fifteen years ago. It is set on the canyon floor amidst native California sycamores, the only holdover from the previous design. The garden is naturalistic in spirit, but carefully calibrated to include species that thrive in the canyon’s specific microclimate, primarily determined by soil conditions and limited light quality. A dramatic rectilinear elevated pool, based on the house’s strong geometry, offsets the sycamore’s angularity and curvilinear nature. The pool’s design is practical, it’s five-foot tall walls address safety concerns associated with having small children; but It’s also very sculptural, a seamless, buff-colored plaster-coated concrete monolith. The watery surface suggests one of the house’s giant windows. Vast sweeps of understory plantings offer subtle contrasts both textural and though tonal variations of green.

We get a lot of questions about what's involved with growing grass, about how to fix bare spots in lawns and about when is the best time to plant grass. When you get right down to it, growing grass is really simple if you follow a few basic rules. Use high quality grass seed and make sure the grass seeds gets worked into the soil, use the right type of slow release fertilizer, give the seed something nutritious to grow in (like the compost/topsoil mixture pictured below) and provide ample amounts of water and sun... okay, you're really only responsible for the water, not so much the sun. If you do all of these things you can really grow grass just about anywhere.
On the other hand, if you would rather spend your Saturdays doing more enjoying of your lawn rather than working on your lawn, give us a call or send us a message and let us take care of repairing the problem areas in your lawn for you.

For over four decades, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase has raised more than $17 million to benefit the San Francisco University High School Financial Aid Program. This year, neither pandemic nor wildfire stayed its organizers from bringing the event to fruition. On Saturday, the 43rd Annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase opened to the public virtually, after public-health orders delayed the event’s original April opening date. This latest edition celebrates West Coast talents while highlighting the wares of high-end sponsors such as The Shade Store, Waterworks, Circa Lighting, and Kohler.
While the linear, unadorned furniture and fixtures certainly put the “modern” in Regan Baker’s Modern Mediterranean kitchen and breakfast nook, the installation also pays homage to 1920s-era kitchens. The cabinetry recalls freestanding pieces, marble countertops, and natural brass finishes that will wear with age. Notably, the cabinets’ verdigris color provides instant patina.
