The Jackson II Expanded adds 353sf of living space to the Jackson II floor plan. This spacious four bedroom home has a downstairs study/guest suite with walk-in closet, which can be configured with a full bath and a bay window option. A mudroom with storage closet opens from the garage, creating a separate entry to the guest suite. A large pantry is added to the kitchen area in the Expanded version of the plan. To accommodate space for the homeowners’ piano, we took advantage of a 20’ foot ceiling in the entryway. We built a new second floor platform that created additional square footage within the existing footprint and carved out a special niche for the family’s prized musical instrument. This properly designed space was given the right setting to sound and appear sensational—the melodies heard throughout the home. By modifying the footprint on the second floor, we were suddenly faced with the challenge of how to repurpose the existing rod and ball stair railing. To accommodate the additional square footage, we needed more railing than was there; and the material was no longer available to order. As a creative solution, we designed a railing system that reused all but twelve inches of the old railing and installed wide posts to make up for the shortfall in railing materials. The result was spectacular!

This house, located in Parsippany, New Jersey, is a variation on a center hall colonial home. The owner loves to cook and entertain and had a strong desire to have an open plan for the entire rear of the residence. The oversized kitchen flows right into the dining area and continues into the family room giving approximately 70 feet of open floor plan. Other features on the first floor include an "adult living room" for privacy, a study, a two story foyer, a mudroom area and a three car garage. The second floor features four bedrooms paired in a fashion allowing for two jack and jill bathrooms, a master bedroom suite with oversized his and hers walk-in closets along with a masterbath with an oversized arched feature window above the garage. The front exterior is a red brick with quoining and a decorative motif over the arched garage doors. It is complemented with a bluestone porch and walkway. The rear of the residence has an expansive yard, great for parties, and features a beautiful patio and a bocci ball court.

The living room was long and narrow but with an amazing bay window. Instead of a galley style living room used by the previous owner, we decided to change the furniture arrangement by putting one big comfy L-shaped sectional all the way to one side to create a pass-through area enabling a better foot traffic. We then added two side chairs for extra seats. We also mounted our TV on top of the fireplace to gain more space. Although it's not my favorite design choice to have TV on top of the fireplace because I think it takes away from the fireplace but we had to work within the limitation of the space. For the fireplace, we bought wood stove insert and inserted it into the existing masonry fireplace. The look was updated by granite tiles around the insert and custom built wood mantel. Buying wood fireplace insert was the best decision we made. First of all, it created a memorable space in our home. I LOVE the sound of wood cracking and the smell of wood burning. In winter nights we would sit around the fireplace and make s'mores like it's a campfire. Second, it's a clean burning and efficient heater. You don't lose the majority the fire’s heat up the chimney thereby saving money on your heating bill. The coffee table is purchased from Wicker Emporium and it's made from reclaimed pine timbers giving the house a rustic feel. The side chair by the fireplace is the perfect spot for me to relax, put my feet up on the large ball shaped knitted foot rest and enjoy a cup of cappuccino or cozy up with a good book.
