Acton ADU is a streamlined, personal organization that leaves you with a high quality building personalized to your needs. We found their planning, communication, permit navigation, and building to be very high quality. Planning with Acton was very simple. They have a suite of choices both for the structural design, but also for nearly every aspect you could want. We even made some modifications ourselves that fit our needs and they were more than accommodating. We ended with a project plan we were fully behind and excited to see to completion. The team at Acton showed themselves to be high level communicators. They anticipated questions, gave frequent updates, and took the time necessary to answer all of our questions throughout. They also utilized an app called Buildertrend that gave us daily updates, calendars, photos, invoices, and any other information we could need from the project. It worked well and keep us constantly in the loop. One of the most daunting aspects of building an ADU is understanding and correctly following all of the permit requirements. Acton ADU handled all of that as part of the build. They know the codes and how to best expedite processes toward a positive conclusion. Acton even has pre-approved building plans that can be approved in a couple weeks rather than several months, which is one thing that drew us to their company in the first place. Finally, and most importantly, the build is fantastic. We watched our ADU come to life as we had planned and the crew working on the structure were amazing. From concrete to framing, drywall, and stucco, the team at Acton clearly knows how to do their work at a high quality. We could not be happier with the outcome and are excited to see our family and friends enjoy the ADU for years to come. Acton has just completed our dream kitchen remodel and we could not be happier. From our very first meetings with Acton (Stan and Jenn), we were impressed with their professionalism and approach to our project. They were excellent listeners and captured the full picture of what we were hoping to achieve. Our design team Lynne and Marianna helped guide us through all the decisions and options to fit our needs and keep us in line with our budget. Once the project began, Ivan, our project manager, was hands-on throughout the entire process. He’s an excellent communicator and a skilled craftsman. He managed the daily teams, coordinated inspections, and handled many things behind the scenes that I’m sure we didn’t even know about. We knew when to expect workers, they were punctual and courteous, and left the job site clean. This was important to us since we were living in the house during the remodel. Tim was the carpenter on our job and we cannot sing his praises enough. His meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship were superlative. We also want to thank Vinnie, Connor, Zac, and Daniel for their work and dedication to our project. Our job was done in the expected time frame (we had one small delay, due to material - but well managed). We’ve completed many remodel projects and this was our very best experience by far. We had a high degree of trust and confidence with this team. They are honest, reliable, and talented. We could not ask for a better team to bring our vision to reality. We would highly recommend Acton for any project.

I HIGHLY recommend the the team at Acton ADU. We hired them to tear down our detached garage and custom build a 600 sq.ft. ADU for my parents to live in. They were absolutely amazing! From our first meeting with Jennifer M. to our final meeting with Stan. Our Project Manager, Chris Gard, was everything you would want in a manger when constructing a big project like this. Chris was great at communicating, was super responsive, and addressed all of our needs in a timely and professional manner. Chris collaborated with us throughout the process and He was very helpful with providing his recommendations throughout the process and listening to our needs or any concerns. He took extra care to take care of any issues that came up and genuinely had our best interest in mind. Chris was happy to field any questions and provide advice on our ADU as well as whatever was going with our main house. I also appreciate that there were never any surprises and Chris took great care to build the ADU with as least disruption as possible. Any time we had a question Chris was happy to give his expert advice. The entire team was very friendly and kind. Chris also did an excellent job managing the contractors working on the site. He was also very helpful with managing the strict Campbell inspection process. I’m beyond impressed with the overall quality of the work and how efficiently they built the structure once they broke ground. I am beyond excited to have my parents stay in our ADU. The kitchen is nicer than the main house! Jennifer M. listened to our needs and genuine with her advice during the prebuild phase and prepared us well for the project. Surabhi was understanding and helped bring our design to life. Kurt was helpful during the initial planning process. Vinnie was wonderful to have onsite and a diligent worker. Stan took the care to meet with us and get our feedback at the end of the project. Chris was the best project manager everrrrrr. Overall a superb construction company! I would give more stars if I could :-)

As a professional who really knows the world of ADUs, there was never any question. Acton ADU does it right. They created not just a wonderful home for our family, but a valuable, long-term asset for my parents, my siblings, and myself. The design is beautiful, the craftsmanship is of a tremendous quality, and the team were clean, professional, and super attentive. Acton has just completed construction of a 368 sf ADU in our backyard. We could not be happier. We have done several construction projects, but none were as smooth as this one. Other projects often felt like a tug-of-war; this one was a calm collaboration. This sense of calm was the direct result of working with people who know what they’re doing, and who treat their customers with great respect. During the design and construction process, all of our phone calls and emails were responded to immediately. Not once did we feel “in the dark” about what was going on. Even though we were building a “tiny house”, we were treated like we were building a mansion. All construction projects have issues. We knew we were in a flood zone and had a protected redwood tree. We didn’t know we had old permits that had never been signed off on. We didn’t know a sewer trench would have to be dug manually to protect other trees in our yard. Acton handled everything efficiently and professionally. We asked for a lot in our very small ADU: a bedroom, living area, kitchen and bathroom. We got all of it, and everyone who has seen it has been amazed by the quality and design. Stan has assembled a capable, respectful and talented team. It was truly a pleasure working with every member of Acton ADU, and we highly recommend them.

We hired Acton because they are a full service firm: design and build. It was easy to work with them...from their designers to project managers. They listen to what we needed and wanted. Our home life has been transformed because of them! We added about 500 square feet: a new kitchen, 4th bedroom, enlarged the living room , new paint and new floors throughout and created a new entrance into the home. It's functional and beautiful. They started and ended on time and on budget.

These guys are pros. When they tell you a price and a timeline for your project, you can count on them to hit those targets. They work clean and finished product is top notch. I've done 3 projects with these folks and lived in the house during all 3. The cleanliness of the projects and the courtesy of the teams helped make sharing the space and living through the construction easy.

We recently completed a whole house renovation with Acton Construction and couldn’t be happier with the resulting open concept modernization of our living spaces. Having met Stan through a referral, we quickly established a rapport of open communication and trust as we exchanged ideas to address the realities of our growing family, budget, and most importantly our schedule as we decided to live in the property through the entire process. In retrospect, we should have lived with our parents for a few months since we had this option as this would have facilitated a quicker project completion. Live and learn there; but we took a couple of great trips during the more hectic build weeks. The most significant change we made was expanding (actually moving!) our kitchen and building an island, along with changing several interior walls to open things up. Acton’s design and build team were instrumental in creating an inviting and entertaining dream space. Using the web based project management software was really helpful in tracking cost, material selections, daily/weekly schedule, and subcontractor activity at the property. We recommend you give Acton a call if you are in the market for a professional builder.

Some people dream of a kitchen remodel and others are forced into one by circumstances. Our kitchen remodel was pressed on us by a plumbing mishap. Our home, built in 1908, is a classic craftsman. After interviewing four contractors, we decided on Acton Construction because of their old home experience, reputation in the community, and turnkey design-build services. Acton Construction didn’t disappoint. From our first meeting with Stan Acton to the final photo shoot, the company exceeded our expectations. Under a fake drywall, lowered ceiling, the original, beamed craftsman ceiling was found intact and in good shape. The goal was to use the architecture of the newly-discovered ceiling, upgrade the kitchen while not moving any walls or expanding the kitchen. The entire Acton team from demolition to final sign off, treated our home with respect and care. The interior designer assigned to our project helped strategize the design and choose appropriate fixtures, while keeping the focus on the original design elements of the home. She helped us stay within budget and proposed finishes and colors. Not being big shoppers, she guided us through numerous choices without overwhelming us. The lead project manager was highly responsive, met with us weekly, and guided us through the entire process. This included managing expectations at the different phases of construction. It was obvious that he was respected by the subcontractors. As the project moved forward, he kept us, the clients, informed while coordinating with the trades as they joined and dropped off during the project. We wholeheartedly recommend Acton Construction. The project was on-time, within initial budget projections, and came with no major surprises. They also use a web-based, online project management tool which helped us keep tabs on the schedule, budget, and construction phases. The web-based approach also helped with quick approval of change orders and material choices. My husband had been through a few remodeling projects in the past and I had not. He said this was the least painful and most on-schedule of all. I found it to run smoothly and the outcome is a kitchen that is a pleasure to cook in, entertain in, and just hang out in. Let me start by noting that this review isn't about Acton Constructions work, but rather their professionalism. Acton was one of several GCs I reached out to for help for very small master bathroom remodel. I representative from Action returned by call immediately and put me in touch with the owner (Stan) for a follow-on call for a project assessment. Based on the assessment Stan recommended I pursue a different route that his full-service engagement and provided me with several good contractors that he and his team use. What I appreciate about his company is their follow-up (a courtesy other businesses didn't even bother with in this construction-lucrative atmosphere), and friendly honest advice with alternatives. Just the engagement alone provided a good feeling for working with this company.

We used Acton Construction to completely remodel the entire front half of our house in 2007- 2008 and then in 2016 used them to remodel the kitchen and back half of the house. Both jobs were excellently managed and the quality of the work was remarkable. I can't say enough about how organized, clean and professional the Acton crew and the sub contractors they used were. They were exceptionally patient with us and completed the job on time.

In the Summer and Fall of 2012, we hired Acton Construction to remodel the kitchen in our 1908 bungalow. One of our main priorities was to maintain the historical character of the house, while also achieving a fully functional and modern kitchen. The result definitely met all of our goals - a careful layout allowed us to keep the original wainscoting and windows, and we were able to convert several walled over sections into useful storage space. Ventilation was a tricky challenge in our situation. We didn't like the feel of an overhead vent hood, and were interested in a downdraft vent. Even though the range that we chose didn't lend itself to a downdraft vent, the engineers at Acton came up with a custom modification of an off-the-shelf unit and saved us some money in the process. We were quite pleased that the project stayed very close to the original schedule and budget, and actually came in a bit under on both fronts. Finally, it was a delight to work with the entire team - from designers, to office staff, to the foreman and the workers, everyone was very personable and cooperative. We love the overall quality of the end result, and would heartily recommend the company for consideration in whatever your construction job might be.
