A sumptuous dining room to feast one's eyes and palate features waterside dining in a room layered with opulent design and materials. The oversized custom walnut table accommodates up to 12, and features a unique mix wood and bronze frames upholstered in an exotic leather. Everything in the room was customized to elevate your dining experience.

Custom locally built dining table designed by For a family wanting a dramatic entry and dining room, but with requirements that it be an indestructible venue for weekly brunches with guest lists including small children! Our first solution was to create a contrasting border integral to the hardwood floor, in lieu of an area rug. From there, we introduced furniture in resilient materials such as fiberglass chairs and a locally made custom table of Heather's design in reclaimed hardwood, steel and acrylic. Almost every room in the house offers stunning views of the outdoor living space and golf course. The dining room is subtly elegant creating an intimate dining space but also a space to enjoy looking outdoors. The custom chairs have a curved back design to contrast with the linear dining table. The host and hostess chairs add texture and Texas chic with their velvet alligator skin fabric. One small window, faux woodgrain cabinets and lots of doors made this closed-off Arlington kitchen feel dark and drab, the total opposite of the vibrant young family of four that lives here. To brighten and open up the small kitchen, we removed the wall separating the dining room, expanded the window above the sink and installed a French door to let even more light in from an adjoining sun room. Light now pours into the kitchen, making it feel welcoming, airy and bright. To accommodate the expanded kitchen, we removed a hulking set of built-ins from the dining room which provided two extra feet to work with. The larger footprint allowed us to relocate major appliances and provide a generous amount of storage and prep space including a food safe butcher block to the right of the range. Natural wood elements such as the chopping block, reclaimed shelves and beautiful new floors add character and warmth to the all-white kitchen. One of the must-haves in this renovation was a farmhouse sink which is a great way to maximize function when a smaller sink base is used. We opted to take the tile backsplash all the way to the ceiling along the window wall, creating a more polished look with the added bonus of making the ceiling feel taller. The subway tiles’ subtle texture adds depth to the simple white-on-white motif and the change to a herringbone pattern behind the range adds visual interest without feeling too busy. A crisp white backdrop is perfect for adding pops of color with dishware, accessories and the family’s vintage stand mixer. The newly renovated kitchen-dining area is much better suited for this family’s active lifestyle and the updated design now complements the rest of their stylish home. Photos by Stacy Zarin Goldberg

Inspiration for a transitional great room remodel in Boston with beige walls

The dining room ceiling is painted deep blue, reflecting the navy blue velvet seat cushions on the dining chairs. A gorgeous crystal chandelier is the focal point throwing beautiful light for evening dinner parties. Blue and white pottery adds a charming accent. Potted palm trees create a seamless transition from indoors to out.

This dining room is a great space for large gatherings. The soft colors make the room feel serene, but the pops of orange in the centerpiece and jewel colors in the artwork create some interest that tie things together. For this young couple, the lighting really needed to be unique and not seen in every new construction project. Cut velvet fabric on the back of dining chairs adds a cool texture and pattern to the space, while the leather seats make for maintenance friendly dining. The arched windows are framed by simple silk drapery panels to let in just enough light, and the custom light-colored rug creates a great anchor for the beautiful wood dining table. The dining room features a distinctive, handcrafted table that is extraordinarily durable. When not in use for entertaining or family dinners, the dining room becomes a project space. The tea cart holding the flowers in these photos provides additional serving capabilities without adding visual weight. This Contemporary Dining Room has Arched Doorways that open up to existing rooms. The walls are covered with Patterned Wallpaper and trimmed our with Crown Molding. The beautiful 19th Century Rococco Crystal Chandelier and Beige Shag Area Rug are just a few of the items in this room that add to its warmth.
