This expansive Victorian had tremendous historic charm but hadn’t seen a kitchen renovation since the 1950s. The homeowners wanted to take advantage of their views of the backyard and raised the roof and pushed the kitchen into the back of the house, where expansive windows could allow southern light into the kitchen all day. A warm historic gray/beige was chosen for the cabinetry, which was contrasted with character oak cabinetry on the appliance wall and bar in a modern chevron detail. This award-winning and intimate cottage was rebuilt on the site of a deteriorating outbuilding. Doubling as a custom jewelry studio and guest retreat, the cottage’s timeless design was inspired by old National Parks rough-stone shelters that the owners had fallen in love with. A single living space boasts custom built-ins for jewelry work, a Murphy bed for overnight guests, and a stone fireplace for warmth and relaxation. A custom sideboard we completed for the Island Project, designed by our friends at Prevalent Projects. Solid Rift White Oak. Those doors took a lot of work! Designed them in Fusion360 and cut with a 1/16” diameter bit on the cnc, followed by a v-but to sharpen up the inside corners of the door panels. One of our first projects with wood-bending as well! The doors have no hardware - they slide in simple oiled grooves cut into the bottom and underside of the top. Finished with Rubio Monocoat Natural.
