The utility room was in between the LR and the kitchen, so we moved it in order to connect the two spaces. We put the utility room where the laundry room used to be and created a new laundry room off a new hallway that leads to the master bedroom. The space for this was created by borrowing space from the XL dining area. We carved out space for the formal living room to accommodate a larger kitchen. The rest of the space became modest-sized offices with French doors to allow light from the house's front into the kitchen. The living room now transitioned into the kitchen with a new bar and sitting area. We also transformed the full bath and hallway, which became a half-bath and mudroom for this single couple. The master bathroom was redesigned to receive a private toilet room and tiled shower. The stairs were reoriented to highlight an open railing and small foyer with a pretty armchair. The client’s existing stylish furnishings were incorporated into the colorful, bold design. Each space had personality and unique charm. The aqua kitchen’s focal point is the Kohler cast-iron vintage-inspired sink. The enlarged windows in the living room and sink allow the homeowners to enjoy the natural surroundings. Example of a minimalist kitchen design in Other

The clean simple lines of this yard are echoed in the twin cabanas which provide a change room, washroom and storage. Separating them is a covered conversation area with a raised brick wall to shield the pool equipment behind. Out of view is the home's elevated covered porch, with steps down to the pool level and the custom outdoor kitchen and bar. (14 x 34, custom rectangular)

The tightly constrained footprint of the affectionately named “Box on the Rock” is a response to a limited budget and difficult site. Shallow underground hillside waterways run across the site often daylighting in unexpected and unwanted locations. These necessitated relatively expensive pier footings thus motivating an extremely efficient 2,000 sq ft footprint. With no initial resources to develop the wild scrub and rock landscape of the 3-acre property, the home becomes a lone outpost settling the higher ground of the larger natural site --a literal box on a rock. Given these limitations, the architecture of this outpost needs to provide for all indoor and outdoor functions within its area. With the extremes of the wine country microclimate on the exposed site, this becomes an even more critical requirement for year-round comfort. The central courtyard and the cantilevered deck are strategically carved out of the diagrammatic box to ensure that over the course of the day, temperate options for both sun and shade are always available. In particular, the geometry of the overhang at the front cantilevered deck and the inward angle of its exterior glass walls are carefully calibrated to capture morning sun and winter warming while shielding the internal space from the harshest summer glare. Later in the day the central courtyard comes alive as the sunniest developed outdoor space, yet one that is naturally cooled by capturing the valley cross breezes. With an economy of means, this simple form morphs to amplify the experience of the dramatic site and create an expansive feeling home that belies its small footprint. Each adjustment to the diagrammatic box negotiates the functional and environmental needs to foster self-contained and site-specific living with a minimal environmental impact. This modern transitional home was designed for a family of four and their pets. Our Indianapolis studio used wood detailing and medium wood floors to give the home a warm, welcoming vibe. We used a variety of statement lights to add drama to the look, and the furniture is comfortable and complements the bright palette of the home. Large two tiered deck off of 16 foot window and door system by Marvin Windows and Doors. Hot tub is a step in off of the first level and the lounge area makes up the lower level. Challenge: Infill a single story, single family home between two multi-family 2 story buildings. Response: This Palo Alto Contemporary home focuses windows and clerestories under "butterfly roofs" to the front and back yards. Windows facing the driveway are obscure glass for privacy. The clerestory windows offer an illusion of a second story that blends in with the neighbors. Mid-century duplex converted to contemporary single family home. Taking advantage of open sky and treetops in the park bordering the property in the rear, and shielding the side walls from multi-family units on either side, the floor plan focused all the views to rear and front. A butterfly roof profile allowed clerestory windows to bring light into the interiors.

Bathroom - coastal bathroom idea in New York

The dining section of the kitchen peninsula shields the prep area from view. New custom built-in pantries in the adjoining hallway add important storage space, and LED-lit display areas offer places to display collections, adding interest and color. Clint Miller’s commitment to empathetic use of the Sonoran is exemplified in his family’s new home in Carefree. Miller purchased a home which had been reduced to a few standing walls but which occupied a classic desert lot in an older area of Carefree. The home's design is an homage to the work of two masters of modern architecture: Philip Johnson’s Glass House; and Mies van der Rohe’s, central concept of “less is more” and use of glass and steel. The two revolutionized modern architecture and defined clean, minimalist design. Influenced by these masters and subtly integrated into its site, the home is now a modern adaptation of Carefree’s earliest homes, featuring a simple, stretched, rectilinear design, complemented by a timeless, warm color palette and floor-to-ceiling windows which provide direct views of Black Mountain. The home’s meandering driveway leads past a major wash and diverse, abundant vegetation to a dwelling that has been both reclaimed and modernized with such features as roof overhangs which shield the glass expanses from summer sun and linear ventilation patterns.
