The client wanted to open up the front of the house, integrating the kitchen and the family room as one space. Two walls were removed and replaced with two support beams and a column, resulting in one spacious room. In order to delineate a transition between the space, a two level kitchen island was built -- adding counter space and additional seating. The soapstone counter-top, farmhouse sink and faucet pair well with the craftsman style cabinets and 4x8 backsplash tile. The pendant lights that hang over the counter and the under-cabinet LED lights add a warm glow to the space. The 12x24 porcelain tile for the floor blends well with the warm oak flooring.

The stately Conrad, with its strong, clean lines and tapered legs is perfect for either a parlor or a game room.: The Bruswick table is an 8ft., Chestnut Finish with a tapered leg and shield leather pockets. Add in the 14' Andover Shuffleboard Table and Family Leisure! Shuffleboard in a chestnut finish and the room is complete!

When the neighbor expanded, the small, open courtyard became an extension of the neighbor's driveway. Southern Landscape designed and built a custom privacy trellis to shield the neighbor while creating an intimate retreat off the master bedroom. ,Asian jasmine climbs the trellis, while dianella, foxtail, and little gem magnolia highlight the custom water feature, all of which contributes to the quiet oasis.

This project is a new 5,900 sf. primary residence for a couple with three children. The site is slightly elevated above the residential street and enjoys winter views of the Potomac River. The family’s requirements included five bedrooms, five full baths, a powder room, family room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, walk-in pantry, mudroom, lower level recreation room, exercise room, media room and numerous storage spaces. Also included was the request for an outdoor terrace and adequate outdoor storage, including provision for the storage of bikes and kayaks. The family needed a home that would have two entrances, the primary entrance, and a mudroom entry that would provide generous storage spaces for the family’s active lifestyle. Due to the small lot size, the challenge was to accommodate the family’s requirements, while remaining sympathetic to the scale of neighboring homes. The residence employs a “T” shaped plan to aid in minimizing the massing visible from the street, while organizing interior spaces around a private outdoor terrace space accessible from the living and dining spaces. A generous front porch and a gambrel roof diminish the home’s scale, providing a welcoming view along the street front. A path along the right side of the residence leads to the family entrance and a small outbuilding that provides ready access to the bikes and kayaks while shielding the rear terrace from view of neighboring homes. The two entrances join a central stair hall that leads to the eat-in kitchen overlooking the great room. Window seats and a custom built banquette provide gathering spaces, while the French doors connect the great room to the terrace where the arbor transitions to the garden. A first floor guest suite, separate from the family areas of the home, affords privacy for both guests and hosts alike. The second floor Master Suite enjoys views of the Potomac River through a second floor arched balcony visible from the front. The exterior is composed of a board and batten first floor with a cedar shingled second floor and gambrel roof. These two contrasting materials and the inclusion of a partially recessed front porch contribute to the perceived diminution of the home’s scale relative to its smaller neighbors. Inspiration for a small contemporary galley porcelain tile eat-in kitchen remodel in Boston with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, light wood cabinets, quartz countertops, beige backsplash, mosaic tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances and no island

Set in Montana's tranquil Shields River Valley, the Shilo Ranch Compound is a collection of structures that were specifically built on a relatively smaller scale, to maximize efficiency. The main house has two bedrooms, a living area, dining and kitchen, bath and adjacent greenhouse, while two guest homes within the compound can sleep a total of 12 friends and family. There's also a common gathering hall, for dinners, games, and time together. The overall feel here is of sophisticated simplicity, with plaster walls, concrete and wood floors, and weathered boards for exteriors. The placement of each building was considered closely when envisioning how people would move through the property, based on anticipated needs and interests. Sustainability and consumption was also taken into consideration, as evidenced by the photovoltaic panels on roof of the garage, and the capability to shut down any of the compound's buildings when not in use.

This kitchen emphasizes ease of use with double wall ovens, a tile back splash (easier to clean), and under cabinet lighting (to heighten visibility). By accessible home builder Stanton Homes.
