Like many California ranch homes built in the 1950s, this original master bathroom was not really a "master bath." My clients, who only three years ago purchased the home from the family of the original owner, were saddled with a small, dysfunctional space. Chief among the dysfunctions: a vanity only 30" high, and an inconveniently placed window that forced the too-low vanity mirror to reflect only the waist and partial torso--not the face--of anyone standing in front of it. They wanted not only a more spacious bathroom but a bedroom as well, so we worked in tandem with an architect and contractor to come up with a fantastic new space: a true Master Suite. In order to refine a design concept for the soon-to-be larger space, and thereby narrow down material choices, my clients and I had a brainstorming session: we spoke of an elegant Old World/ European bedroom and bathroom, a luxurious bath that would reference a Roman spa, and finally the idea of a Hammam was brought into the mix. We blended these ideas together in oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, and a tiny tile mosaic in beautiful Bursa Beige marble from Turkey and white Thassos marble from Greece. The new generously sized bathroom boasts a jetted soaking tub, a very large walk-in shower, a double-sided fireplace (facing the tub on the bath side), and a luxurious 8' long vanity with double sinks and a storage tower.
The vanity wall is covered with a mosaic vine pattern in a beautiful Bursa Beige marble from Turkey and white Thassos marble from Greece,. The custom Larson Juhl framed mirrors are flanked by gorgeous hand-wrought scones from Hubbardton Forge which echo the vine and leaf pattern in the mosaic. And the vanity itself features an LED strip in the toe-kick which allows one to see in the middle of the night without having to turn on a shockingly bright overhead fixture. At the other end of the master bath, a luxurious jetted tub nestles by a fireplace in the bay window area. Views of my clients' garden can be seen while soaking in bubbles. The over-sized walk-in shower features a paneled wainscoting effect which I designed in Crema Marfil marble. The vine mosaic continues in the shower, topped by green onyx squares. A rainshower head and a hand-held spray on a bar provides showering options. The shower floor slopes gently in one direction toward a hidden linear drain; this allows the floor to be read as a continuation of the main space, without being interrupted by a center drain.

We did this bathroom for 1/4 of the cost it would have been if done professionally. This was our first attempt at laying tile ( honest ) and wow were we shocked at the outcome. If you just get the right tools and take your time you can do it too.

Way back in the late 1970s, the owners of an 1894 Victorian in Somerville hired Charlie Allen Renovations to renovate and restore their home, a landmark property that had been divided into apartments and lost some of its period charm. This was a memorable project and it was a shock when the homeowners called in December 2014 to let us know that their home had been badly damaged by a fire. They asked if we could once again restore it to its original prominence.
This time nearly every original element of the home needed to be restored or rebuilt.
We began the process by carefully removing all original moulding and paneling, which was then catalogued, thoroughly cleaned, and stored away. Belfor, a property restoration firm, was hired to remove soot and smoky odors, which required opening the walls and then rebuilding them. Numerous decorative elements throughout the home, including an intricate stained glass window in the dining room, had been too badly damaged to be restored; these were carefully remade by both our talented team and by an exceptional group of project partners, to match their original design.
All of the windows in the house had to be replaced, and all of its floors needed to be refinished. Tile hearth surrounding the dining room fireplace and the living room fireplace mantel and surround were removed, cleaned, and replaced.
The homeowners also took the opportunity to have some long-desired renovations accomplished, including remodeling the outdated kitchen, which now features an expansive island, pantry closet, new cork flooring, backsplash, and greenhouse window.
Today, the house is fully both meticulously restored and remodeled, and the owners are happily back home. At its conclusion, the project was awarded with the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission’s 2017 Directors Award and a 2018 Contractor of the Year Gold Award.
Along with Belfor, additional project partners include Jackson Schillaci Woodworking, master finisher Wayne Towle, and Jim Anderson Stained Glass.

Among the best in art ethanol fireplace design, the AF66 Remote Controlled Electronic Bio Ethanol Fireplace Insert is favored by architects, contractors and high-end designers and offers the discerning client unprecedented quality and safety. In addition to the same vent-free and clean burning flames as manual ethanol fireplace inserts, this art-Fire bio ethanol burner offers much more for both residential and commercial applications:
Remote Control Capability. Due to its electronic operation, powered by a twelve-volt power source, this ethanol fireplace insert may be ignited and extinguished through an on/off switch located on the burner itself, a one-button remote control or through your smart phone by integrating with your Smart Home System.
On-Board Safety Monitoring. The motherboard of this fireplace insert is safety-central. Constantly self-evaluating its operation, this intelligent burner reacts to any condition that appears atypical. Should it sense an excess amount of carbon dioxide emission or heat output, it will automatically cease operation, extinguish the flame and maintain the lock mechanism of the fuel chamber. Additionally, it will self-extinguish should it sense seismic motion or level of tilt making it a shock-proof device. Fuel and battery levels are also constantly evaluated for optimal performance and will give notification through the burner’s LED display, which will indicate operation times and alert you by sound and error message should an event occur.
Sturdy Construction. Constructed of Grade 304 stainless steel, the ethanol burner is corrosion resistant and exhibits excellent resistance to atmospheric, chemical and other exposures. Its top plate measures three millimeters in thickness (3/32 inches). This allows sturdiness, yet promotes a low profile. For added safety, the bioethanol fireplace AF66 offers insulated double hearth construction.
Separate Fuel Reservoir and Burner Tray. Continuing with the unprecedented safety features of this ethanol burner, excess fuel is housed in a sealed reservoir. This not only prevents fuel evaporation and the aromatic release of the raw ethanol, but lessens the amount of “exposed” fuel at any given time. Through a medical grade fuel pump, the ethanol is delivered into the burner tray. Only allowing the burner tray to manage a few centiliters of ethanol fuel at a given time promotes additional safety and minimizes the risk of fire-related dangers.

The idea is to shock the guest as they come into the entry way. Set the tone of a fun, fearless, untraditional art.

I am still sometimes shocked myself at how much of a difference a kitchen remodel can make in a space, you think I would know by now! This was one of those jobs. The small U-shaped room was a bit cramped, a bit dark and a bit dated. A neighboring sunroom/breakfast room addition was awkwardly used, and most of the time the couple hung out together at the small peninsula.
The client wish list included a larger, lighter kitchen with an island that would seat 7 people. They have a large family and wanted to be able to gather and entertain in the space. Right outside is a lovely backyard and patio with a fireplace, so having easy access and flow to that area was also important.
Our first move was to eliminate the wall between kitchen and breakfast room, which we anticipated would need a large beam and some structural maneuvering since it was the old exterior wall. However, what we didn’t anticipate was that the stucco exterior of the original home was layered over hollow clay tiles which was impossible to shore up in the typical manner. After much back and forth with our structural team, we were able to develop a plan to shore the wall and install a large steal & wood structural beam with minimal disruption to the original floor plan. That was important because we had already ordered everything customized to fit the plan.
We all breathed a collective sigh of relief once that part was completed. Now we could move on to building the kitchen we had all been waiting for. Oh, and let’s not forget that this was all being done amidst COVID 2020.
We covered the rough beam with cedar and stained it to coordinate with the floors. It’s actually one of my favorite elements in the space. The homeowners now have a big beautiful island that seats up to 7 people and has a wonderful flow to the outdoor space just like they wanted. The large island provides not only seating but also substantial prep area perfectly situated between the sink and cooktop. In addition to a built-in oven below the large gas cooktop, there is also a steam oven to the left of the sink. The steam oven is great for baking as well for heating daily meals without having to heat up the large oven.
The other side of the room houses a substantial pantry, the refrigerator, a small bar area as well as a TV.
The homeowner fell in love the with the Aqua quartzite that is on the island, so we married that with a custom mosaic in a similar tone behind the cooktop. Soft white cabinetry, Cambria quartz and Thassos marble subway tile complete the soft traditional look. Gold accents, wood wrapped beams and oak barstools add warmth the room. The little powder room was also included in the project. Some fun wallpaper, a vanity with a pop of color and pretty fixtures and accessories finish off this cute little space.

The Tiny Farmhouse Kitchen is by far one of the most complex, rewarding, and unforgettable projects we’ve ever completed. Designed to be fully mobile and 100% solar-powered, this one-of-a-kind kitchen on wheels pushed our creativity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving skills to new heights. Every time we transported it through town, it turned heads—people would literally stop in their tracks just to get a closer look.
Building a fully functional commercial kitchen in such a small footprint required precision in every detail. We carefully selected each piece of equipment to minimize electrical draw, including a commercial refrigerator and four recessed induction food warmers—all powered entirely by solar energy. Onboard water storage, filtration, and gray water management were meticulously engineered to maximize both functionality and space.
The Tiny Farmhouse Kitchen features:
• Custom handcrafted cabinetry
• Granite countertops
• Vaulted ceilings with dimmable LED lighting
• A full POS system with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot
• A gas-shock lift service window with a live-edge oak flip-down counter, finished with crystal-clear epoxy for a stunning, natural look
Every inch of this mobile kitchen was designed for both beauty and efficiency, blending farmhouse charm with modern utility. It’s a project we are immensely proud of—and one that perfectly captures the spirit of what we do at Artisan Kitchen & Bath: bringing bold ideas to life with craftsmanship, innovation, and heart.

This seating area in the Primary Bedroom features moiré silk Schumacher wallpaper and an ivory indoor/outdoor rug. The Billy Baldwin sofa is upholstered in Scalamandré's iconic Tigre velvet with bullion fringe trim. Visual Comfort Art Deco style sconces are mounted above the marble fireplace. The Shade Store created a pair of custom silk curtains with matching cornices. The Tony Duquette chandelier is from Remains Lighting. The custom bed is upholstered in Surrealist Pierre Frey embroidery with a Schiaparelli inspired "Shocking Pink" bed canopy.

The spacious Dining Area is open to the other living spaces. We added this console from Sarreid Ltd. The bluestone top makes it perfect to use as an extra serving surface. The bay window is an excellent spot for reading and morning coffee. We did not want to detract from the window molding so we added small cornice boards with a shock of color to complement the rug.
There is so much color inspiration in this Prospect Condo, and the window treatments bring in warmth that finishes off the home nicely. To get more inspiration for your window treatments, click here and here. Enjoy!

There’s something so shocking about a white on white kitchen renovation, especially when accompanied with crisp, sharp lines and bold features. It’s a simplicity that can’t be overlooked. When you see the rich shine of the counters against the personality of the backsplash, you’re left feeling a bit cleaner yourself. We’re all about washing your guests in illustrious design, giving them all the more reason to come back (and you all the more reason to sit back and enjoy it yourself).
This particular Ottawa kitchen renovation was equipped with the right amount of storage via IKEA Bodbyn off white cabinets and eye-catching Ceragres Senio Trapunta backsplash. The wine racks are built into the cabinetry as a welcomed touch for any casual entertainer, and the entire design is packed with simple accents and clean charm.

Located in Çeşme, İzmir, this project brings together contemporary outdoor design with the aesthetic strength of Serapool porcelain. The fixed seating area, crafted with Pool Garden Grey porcelain terrace tiles, creates a prestigious poolside living space with the sophisticated elegance of grey tones. The Olcay Mix pool tiles add a refreshing and balanced atmosphere to the swimming area. Thanks to the porcelain's water absorption rate below 0.5%, the structure delivers long-lasting performance. High resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and thermal shock ensures lasting comfort in outdoor conditions. A slip resistance rating of PTV ≥ 45° enhances both safety and user experience. The fixed architectural solution eliminates the need for storing outdoor furniture, offering added ease of use. This is not just a seating area—it’s a holistic design that integrates with its surroundings through aesthetic transitions, offering a functional and luxurious lifestyle.

The Antique Grey Çeşme Villa Pool Project offers an integrated application example that brings the modern and sophisticated effect of grey tones into outdoor design. The Antique Grey series used on the pool floor adds a serene and refined depth to the water with its natural stone texture. Thanks to its Low Water Absorption, the surface ensures long-lasting use and provides resistance to UV Resistance, chemicals, and thermal shocks. The PTV ≥ 45° Non-slip value supports safety in wet areas. In the transitions, Antique Grey Scoth Outer Corner and Outer Angle Corner elements provide technical and aesthetic integrity, while the Pool Garden Grey Porcelain Anti Slip Terrace Tiles used in the surrounding area reinforce the continuity of grey tones. This combination creates a color balance in harmony with the architecture while offering comfort and safety at the same time.
