This bathroom had shredded wallpaper still clinging to the walls, a leaking tub with a cracking tile surround, and a dated linoleum floor and needed a complete overhaul. I fixed the walls, updated the floor, installed a one-piece tub and shower, built a custom cabinet over the toilet, and created a focal wall above the custom vanity with bead board, stained wood accents, and unique vanity shelves.

The small multi-stemmed tree in the background is Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry (Amelanchier X 'Autumn Brilliance') Premium shredded hardwood bark mulch gives the freshly planted beds a finished appearance and will reduce maintenance by conserving moisture and keeping weed seed from germinating. The bright blue/green material is a treated excelsior blanket. It's used to restore the turf and acts as a mulch, protecting grass seed from birds, erosion and moisture loss.. This zen inspired vegetable garden is so beautiful and unique! Our customer was beyond thrilled when she was the final product, and so were we! Enter through the gate and guide yourself down the spiral path that lets you see and have access to every inch of the garden. In the front you can see how the stone wall from the back carries through to the front, as well as the timber steps and the shredded Cedar bark mulch. We planted lots of California Native Woodland plants, and installed a drip irrigation to the whole property.

Much of the non-native foliage, which can struggle in LA's climate, is placed in contained gardens, so it can easily be protected from the elements. Unlike accent grasses, succulents hold hydration and pose little danger when potted and well maintained. Ceramic pots will not burn. Like low foliage, they can be placed to keep embers from drifting against vulnerable areas of a home. This photo was taken in 2009, prior to the requirement for a Zone 0. We would not place chip or shredded mulch against a home. The Oregon Grape, while very heat and drought resistant, would be placed further from the home, outside of the ember resistant zone. Modern, bright blue and white with orange accents, this condo kitchen's footprint did not change much, but the storage was extended up and out, one foot into the family room. An old desk area became a second pantry, and the clients now sit on the end of the peninsula as 'desk' space. A shredded catalog, making up the acrylic 'barn door' separated the dining room from the kitchen....is a work of art, itself.
