A hall bath was carved out between two of the downstairs bedrooms. This deep bath is anchored by the tub with window allowing ample light. The sink was reclaimed from an original summer/prep kitchen in the home and refinished. The school house style bath is easy to clean, simple and ready for guests with it's abundant storage. For an active family in Vienna VA, this traditional print is in non-traditional bright colors, and paired with a lime green fabric for the button details, inset pleats, and lining on the gathered ends. The shaping was designed for maximum view and light, while complementing the architecture of the triple window. ASID Design Excellence First Place Residential – Kitchen and Bathroom: Michael Merrill Design Studio was approached three years ago by the homeowner to redesign her kitchen. Although she was dissatisfied with some aspects of her home, she still loved it dearly. As we discovered her passion for design, we began to rework her entire home--room by room, top to bottom.

In this closeup photo, you can see the inverted pleats, the cording at the top of the board mounted custom valance, and the decorative tape at the hem, which continues to reference the view of the natural world outside. The textured fabric reminds us of the branches outside, without being a pattern from a distance. The simplicity of design allows the fabric and trim to be most important.
