The goal of this project was to replace a small single-story seasonal family cottage with a year-round home that takes advantage of the views and topography of this lakefront site while providing privacy for the occupants. The program called for a large open living area, a master suite, study, a small home gym and five additional bedrooms. The style was to be distinctly contemporary. The house is shielded from the street by the placement of the garage and by limiting the amount of window area facing the road. The main entry is recessed and glazed with frosted glass for privacy. Due to the narrowness of the site and the proximity of the neighboring houses, the windows on the sides of the house were also limited and mostly high up on the walls. The limited fenestration on the front and sides is made up for by the full wall of glass on the lake side, facing north. The house is anchored by an exposed masonry foundation. This masonry also cuts through the center of the house on the fireplace chimney to separate the public and private spaces on the first floor, becoming a primary material on the interior. The house is clad with three different siding material: horizontal longboard siding, vertical ribbed steel siding and cement board panels installed as a rain screen. The standing seam metal-clad roof rises from a low point at the street elevation to a height of 24 feet at the lakefront to capture the views and the north light. The house is organized into two levels and is entered on the upper level. This level contains the main living spaces, the master suite and the study. The angled stair railing guides visitors into the main living area. The kitchen, dining area and living area are each distinct areas within one large space. This space is visually connected to the outside by the soaring ceilings and large fireplace mass that penetrate the exterior wall. The lower level contains the children’s and guest bedrooms, a secondary living space and the home gym.

An extensive renovation and addition to a prominent residence, WDA designed a large 2-story addition and basement that met our clients aspirations for doubling the size of the original home, modernizing its interior and improving functionality. Jasmine Residence is a renovation of a single-story ranch house in Denver, Colorado. Two accordion folding glass doors connect the main living space with the rear yard and the neighborhood street. This effectively creates a large breezeway that can be opened up for three seasons annually. The second story addition expands the house's existing program to include a new master suite and a loft.

Tuscan house plans draw inspiration from ancient world architecture, echoing the charm of Southwest homes with their terra cotta rooftops and arched entryways. Nestled among rolling hills and vineyards, this single-family home exudes a sense of tranquility and elegance. The courtyard layout adds to its allure, inviting guests into a welcoming atmosphere. Inside, the master bedroom boasts futuristic design elements and a luxurious master bathroom. The dining room, with its semi-arched design, flows seamlessly into the contemporary kitchen equipped with innovative features like a butler's pantry and kitchen island. A classic formal living room with fireplaces and a screened porch offer additional spaces for relaxation. Two bedrooms, a jack and jill bathroom, and a walk-in closet cater to family needs, while the main floor program includes powder room ideas and children's playing areas. Three covered car garages complete this spacious and elegant residence, showcasing its unique architectural design.

An old 3-acre sheep farm with a small 100-year old farmhouse, this hidden site within the hills of SW Portland revealed mature nut trees, a small vineyard, and several neglected out-buildings. The program called for a new 4BR single-level house which was carefully sited between two delineated wetlands on site, with the main living spaces running north-south and the bedrooms running east-west. Oversized eaves provide year-round outdoor living and invite a walk to the nearby guest house converted from the old farmhouse. A pool terrace with southern exposure creates a gathering space for the family to enjoy. The clients requested an architectural style reminiscent of Mid-Century modern homes, thus the house is comprised of long, low-sloping, gable roof forms, vertical cedar siding, and warm interior wood finishes including cedar ceilings and oak and walnut built-ins throughout. Large sliding glass doors extend living to the outdoor pool and dining terrace and provide views of the natural site and beyond.

It satisfied both the corner apartment lot and narrow lot. It is planned in a two-story design with a covered Front porch and built floating slab. This covered front porch designs to find the glorious views. We build a screen porch to benefit consumers. The primary floor program includes a bedroom, a bath, a fantastic room, kitchen, dining room. Here an eating bar in the kitchen and the style of kitchen island in modern fashion. Upstairs there's a master bedroom, a master bathroom with a small double vanity sink plus another bedroom. The roof is Dutch gable style. This single-family home is comfortable, enjoyable, and customers friendly.

Nestled at the end of a long flag lot driveway in Amagansett, NY, a young couple purchased the property with intentions to construct a second home for their growing family. A home that would not only be comfortable for the immediate family but also serve and grow on busy summer weekends to accommodate extended family, friends, children and guests. The tight lot along with the sizable program culminated in the building envelope being pushed to every limit, restriction and regulation one could imagine. The resulting architecture possesses a traditional Hamptons cottage exterior juxtaposed with modern elements that help break up the single mass. Centered on the entry façade is a large double story window that shrouds the floating switchback staircase on the interior. A bluestone patio wraps three sides of the home, which, in the rear, leads to a small in ground pool with a frameless glass railing. In the interior, custom white washed white oak floors run throughout the home as well as on the floating central staircase. For a more modern style of living, the open living, kitchen and dining area serve as one large entertaining space. In an area surrounded by sprawling Mcmansions, this tightly knit home functions more similar to that of a large NYC apartment by serving the perfect balance between maximized form with the right amount of function given the strict parameters. Large glass sliders open the living and dining rooms to the backyard patio and pool creating harmony between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Shaker style cabinets in the kitchen pair with a more contemporary staircase softened by the warmer wood tones of the vertical slats that surround it.

Perched in the foothills of Edna Valley, this single family residence was designed to fulfill the clients’ desire for seamless indoor-outdoor living. Much of the program and architectural forms were driven by the picturesque views of Edna Valley vineyards, visible from every room in the house. Ample amounts of glazing brighten the interior of the home, while framing the classic Central California landscape. Large pocketing sliding doors disappear when open, to effortlessly blend the main interior living spaces with the outdoor patios. The stone spine wall runs from the exterior through the home, housing two different fireplaces that can be enjoyed indoors and out. Because the clients work from home, the plan was outfitted with two offices that provide bright and calm work spaces separate from the main living area. The interior of the home features a floating glass stair, a glass entry tower and two master decks outfitted with a hot tub and outdoor shower. Through working closely with the landscape architect, this rather contemporary home blends into the site to maximize the beauty of the surrounding rural area.
