Kitchen Cabinet Painting: Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the professional kitchen cabinet painting process typically take from start to finish?
Most residential projects take between five to seven business days. This timeframe includes the removal of doors for off-site spraying, meticulous on-site masking of your kitchen "shell," and the necessary curing time between coats to ensure a rock-hard, durable finish.
What type of paint or finish do you use to ensure the cabinets don't chip or peel over time?
We utilize industrial-grade Italian coatings or high-end waterborne alkyd enamels specifically formulated for cabinetry. These products are much harder than standard wall paint, providing superior resistance to moisture, kitchen grease, and the daily wear and tear of a busy Chicago household.
Do I need to empty all of my kitchen cabinets and drawers before the painters arrive?
While you don't necessarily need to empty the backs of the shelves, we require all items to be moved at least six inches back from the front edges. However, for the best dust-free results, we highly recommend emptying them completely to protect your cookware.
Can you paint cabinets that are made of laminate, thermofoil, or or dark-stained oak?
Yes, we can! The secret lies in the bonding primer. We use specialized high-adhesion primers that "bite" into slick surfaces like laminate or seal the grain of deep oak, ensuring the color stays vibrant and the surface remains perfectly smooth without peeling.
How should I clean and maintain my newly painted cabinets to keep them looking fresh for years?
To maintain the finish, simply wipe them down with a soft microfiber cloth and a gentle mixture of warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive scrubbing pads, or wax-based polishes, as these can break down the protective topcoat over time.

This stunning Newport Beach kitchen remodel transformed the open plan kitchen, while incorporating original structural features like the wooden beams and arched windows and doors. The result is a bright traditional style kitchen design that is sure to be the center of life in this home.
The focal point of the new design is a Caliber 48” indoor professional range, which the clients wanted to stand out in the room. In a kitchen design by Bruce Colucci, this top of the line range is framed by a Le Gourmet Kitchen custom hood designed to complement the style of the range, as well as a sparkling metallic mosaic tile backsplash.

This photo shows the installation phase of a complete bathroom renovation. After demolition and rough-ins were finalized, we began setting the foundation for finishes by ensuring walls, plumbing, and electrical systems were aligned and ready for modern fixtures. Careful attention was given to detail and safety, maintaining a clean and organized job site as we moved closer to the final transformation.

These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen.
We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure.
Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests.
The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. Large, easily accessible deep drawers provide much needed storage for pots, pans and lids as well as expansive countertop space for everyday prep and family get-togethers.
Overall, the clients were thrilled with their Renovision and cannot wait to throw a party to show off their stunning kitchen.
“There is not a single choice we aren’t happy with; it is so us! I love all of the storage and I have a feeling we are going to do a lot of entertaining this summer.”
“Dear Cathy and Ed, We are abundantly grateful for the entire Renovisions Team that have provided us with a beautiful kitchen and porch to enjoy. We will continue to make family memories for many years to come with this new addition. From the first time we met with you at the showroom, we were confident that high quality workmanship would go into our new construction. Mike, Brad, and Tom were very trustworthy and worked very hard every day they were on the job site. They were very flexible and always put the homeowners safety first. They even offered a bit of comic relief! Every night the site was cleaned meticulously, never leaving tools or sharp edges of any sort in the open space. We were also very pleased with the help offered when designing and choosing cabinets, tile and other finishes. Liz was always very helpful and patient to answer questions when we came by the showroom. We are extremely pleased with all the choices and on a daily basis we enjoy the warmth and amazing space it provides.
We recently hosted a retirement party for 70 people and it never felt crowed! We relax under the covered porch in the morning for coffee, the afternoon for lunch and to watch the grandkids in the pool. And of course in the evening while we read or catch up on emails. It is an amazing space! Thank you all again, for your hard work and passion for your craftsmanship. We will be in touch soon to set up a date for you all to drop by to see the finishing touches and to enjoy refreshments.”

From a modest East End bungalow to a striking three-storey custom home — our Dundas St E project was anything but straightforward.
When we began demolition, we discovered the house sat on a former landfill site, which created serious structural challenges. Instead of seeing a problem, we saw an opportunity to apply innovative engineering. Our team designed and installed a foundation system using helical piles and structured footings, creating a rock-solid base for the new build. This project proves that no matter how complex the site conditions, smart design and skilled construction can transform challenges into stunning results. The proof? This home sold within two days of hitting the market.

This elegant new stairway transformed the main entry of this residential remodel. The original adobe wall and wooden stair was completely removed and a self-supporting steel stair was put in its place. Transparency of the new system opened up the entire home and brought a modern touch into the once traditional architecture. The steel stair was framed with 6 inch channel and custom tread supports. The railing matched the industrial look with solid flat bar and half inch solid round bar. The treads were finished with a clear polyurethane to complement the raw steel finish of the stair. Contact Pascetti steel to help transform your outdated home or office with new modern metal fabrication.
At Pascetti Steel we specialize in custom and pre-fabricated, ready-to-assemble stair units. From formed steel plate and channel stringers to stair units with aluminum ADA compliant treads. We can ship complete pre-finished stairs directly to the job site with all necessary hardware. Custom railings can always be added to match the style of stair.
Working with architects and designers at the initial design stage or directly with homeowners, Pascetti Steel will make the entire process from drawings to installation seamless and hassle free. We plan safety and stability into every design we make, the railings and hardware are fabricated to be strong, durable and visually appealing. • The most difficult part of the project was figuring out all the technical details to install the glass counter-top, which would weigh about 300 pounds!
• One goal was to avoid seeing the cabinet supports through the glass. The glass itself proposed problems because it had a wavy texture and separate confetti glass that could be added to the bottom. Therefore, we needed to add something below it.
• A custom steel base was designed to carry the weight yet float the glass so you are able to see the beauty of the glass itself. A small 1/2 inch trim piece on the steel was added to accomplish this task.
• Once the steel was made, we took it to the glass distributor. We turned the very heavy base upside down, traced the 1/2 inch trim piece on a full size piece of paper, and sent it to the glass manufacturer.
• After this, the base was sent to a powder coater and the raw steel was transformed into a beautiful champagne color.
• In the meantime, the glass manufacturer molded a channel for the glass to rest that would suspend the glass 1/2 inch higher than the powder coated steel base.
• The glass manufacturer was instructed to make the top of the glass smooth, so it would hold a plate without rocking; they added an extra layer of 1/4 inch glass after it was fired the first time to accomplish this.
• When the base was brought to the job site, the carpenter installed a thick 6 inch block of wood through the tile and into the floor joists. The hollow 6 inch square base of the steel table was glued and screwed into the wood. The base was leveled and ready for the top to arrive several days later.
• The glass installers put it over the base, and it fit PERFECTLY! (whew)
• The steel base is 3 inches smaller than the glass, creating a see-through effect around the entire perimeter of the kidney bean shape.
• The granite was then templated by using a specialized camera that measured the curve of the glass. However, upon arrival, the fit was less than perfect. Thanks to a patient and skilled granite installer from Nonn's Showplace spent several hours hand grinding and polishing the curve on site until it fit perfectly.
• A small bead of silicone between the granite and the glass was all that was needed to complete the perfect installation.
• With a few shims under the end of the granite, the top is perfectly level!
• Our client was extremely excited and very patient with the process because they trusted our abilities so that the end result would be spectacular.

The Legendary Rockstar Pool Build — A Backyard Concert Venue and Custom Swimming Pool
The Rockstar Pool is one of the most ambitious, imaginative, and large-scale residential pool builds ever completed by Legendary Escapes. Designed and built by Al Curtis, this project was created for a homeowner whose entire life revolves around performance, music, and living boldly.
This is far more than a swimming pool.
It is a backyard concert venue, a sculpted grotto, a hot tub, a swim-up bar, a VIP lounge, a performance platform, and a fully engineered artistic environment built as a single cohesive experience.
A Client With a True Rockstar Life
The homeowner’s request was simple in spirit but extraordinary in scale: create a pool environment that matched a life centered on creativity and performance. His background includes jousting at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, on-stage theatrical work, a home rebuilt around music and entertainment, and longstanding connections within the rock world. With a 16-acre horse farm and a passion for bold design, he needed a pool that reflected his personality.
His project requirements included a grotto, waterfall, hot tub, swim-up bar, performance area, and multiple lounging zones. Every feature had to feel original, dramatic, and purposeful.
The Design Vision
Designer and builder Al Curtis immediately recognized that this build needed to be expansive, theatrical, and seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The pool needed to make a statement without obstructing panoramic views of the surrounding farm and open sky.
The spark for the design came from an unexpected source: steel grates salvaged from an old carnival tilt-a-whirl ride. This inspired the concept of a floating performance stage built over the pool. What began as a small idea quickly grew into a large-scale platform complete with a concrete stage, integrated lighting, waterfalls, backstage areas, and custom metalwork. As the stage expanded, so did the pool, the patio, and the entire environment—ultimately transforming the backyard into a private amphitheater.
Repurposed Materials Used as Art
Legendary Escapes is known for incorporating reclaimed materials into artistic, sculptural pool environments. This project includes an extraordinary collection of repurposed components:
Tilt-a-whirl steel used as the main stage structure
Carnival flooring panels transformed into large fire-feature guitars
Trumpet and trombone bells refitted as lighting fixtures
Reclaimed street lamps custom-painted for poolside lighting
3D-printed album covers used as illuminated wall panels
Concrete replicas of Marshall speakers integrated under the stage
Every material was selected to bring character, history, and energy to the space.
Artistic Features and Highlights
The Rockstar Pool includes numerous custom artistic elements, such as:
A ten-foot mosaic “album cover” inset into the pool floor
Eight-foot sculpted guitars along the fence line
Guitar-shaped fire features
Backlit album panels positioned just above the water
A “Rockstar” sign paired with sculpted concrete amplifier towers
A VIP seating area built from restored tilt-a-whirl ride cars
Every corner of the environment contains layered artistic details.
Engineering Challenges and Solutions
Creating a fully functional concert stage over the deep end of the pool required extensive planning and engineering. Key complexities included:
Designing a safe, weight-bearing steel and concrete stage structure
Adjusting stage elevation mid-build to achieve optimal height
Installing three complete filtration systems concealed beneath the stage
Applying ecoFinish throughout the pool, spa, and grotto
Rebuilding existing decking and integrating a three-story observation tower
Ensuring the massive pool structure preserved the property’s sightlines
The technical demands of this project were matched only by the creative vision behind it.
The Legendary Team
This build was completed by a multi-generational team of craftsmen and artists, including:
Al Curtis – Designer and builder
Jesse Curtis – Project manager and construction artist
Mark Curtis – Filtration systems and plumbing
Annie Curtis – Stonework and water features
Karen Olson – Tile, stonework, and patio murals
Frank DiPiazza – Structural construction and decking
Brendan Schafer – On-site support and maintenance
dbaker designs – Custom mosaic creation
Daren Baker – Custom metal guitars and lighting elements
Each contributor played a critical role in shaping the final environment.
A Client Who Trusted the Process
As with many Legendary Escapes projects, this build evolved organically. The homeowner provided inspiration and trust, allowing the team to respond to the evolving environment. Several features—including the guitar fence, fire elements, and VIP seating area—were conceived and built during the process as the design revealed new opportunities.
The Final Result
The Rockstar Pool is now a fully functional concert venue, swimming pool, artistic installation, and outdoor living space. It is dramatic, expressive, engineered with care, and truly one-of-a-kind. This project reflects the homeowner’s personality and passion, and stands as one of the most ambitious designs ever produced by Legendary Escapes.

modern mountain home captures the essence of rustic-meets-industrial in a minimal yet impactful way. Starting with a color palette inspired by our client’s love of white, gray and black, we created a home that is cool and hip for entertaining and family lake-side living. Industrial elements and rustic details coexist side by side, such as the striking black metal fireplace facing off against a custom oversized sectional and an antler chandelier in the central great room, while sheepskin throws casually top sleek mid-century-inspired dining chairs.
Every room has a “wow” factor element, and the playful interiors are filled with graphic accents that express the family’s personality and history: a pantry door adapted from a shipping container lists family birth dates in place of the usual ports of call, a sliding door calls out the site’s original greenhouse, and IPhone photos are transformed into very personal bedroom murals. This is a mountain home, so durable outdoor fabrics abound, and a “snack shack” made from a glass garage door opens up to reveal an indoor/outdoor bar.

Hollywood Hillside Residence by Judy Kameon of Elysian Landscapes
Nestled in one of L.A.’s iconic canyons, a barren one-acre plot was transformed into a lush landscape - embracing the indoor/outdoor experience established by the architecture while preserving the panoramic vistas. A series of linked garden spaces were created for daily use and entertaining and plant materials used strategically to screen out the neighbors, but not the views.
One of the many challenges at the site was integrating two structurally required retaining walls into the design to accommodate the 30-foot elevation change on the steep hillside. An intimate nook with cascading vines creatively masks one wall, while the other area was transformed into an elegant outdoor dining patio that includes a new spa, an L-shaped pool, and a variety of intimate spaces to lounge in and relax.
The dramatic palette of silver, burgundy, blue and green subtropical succulents and Mediterranean perennials, along with the enticing scent of lavender, thyme and rosemary, are layered throughout the property to create a private urban oasis. Photo copyright Erik Otsea

This Beautiful 5,931 sqft home renovation was completely transformed from a small farm bungalow. This house is situated on a ten-acre property with extensive farmland views with bright open spaces. Custom beam work was done on site to add the “rustic” element to many of the rooms, most specifically the bar area. Custom, site-built shelving and lockers were added throughout the house to accommodate the homeowner’s specific needs. Space saving barn doors add style and purpose to the walk-in closets in the ensuite, which includes walk-in shower, private toilet room, and free standing jet tub; things that were previously lacking. A “great room” was created on the main floor, utilizing the previously unusable living area, creating a space on the main floor big enough for the family to gather, and take full advantage of the beautiful scenery of the acreage.

Featured in Brownstoner magazine, the Caroll Gardens project is a remarkable transformation orchestrated by Build-Ops from an abandoned, dilapidated space to a stunning residential haven. With only remnants of walls left standing amidst decay, Build-Ops embarked on a comprehensive renovation journey.
Beginning with meticulous demolition, we cleared the site and initiated structural reconstruction from the ground up. From foundation work to framing, plumbing, and electrical installation, every stage of construction was executed with precision. We then proceeded to craft exquisite interiors, including flooring, staircase, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.
With a keen eye for detail, we installed custom furniture, applied finishing touches, and breathed new life into the space. The Caroll Gardens project exemplifies our dedication to turning dreams into reality, showcasing the transformative power of Build-Ops craftsmanship.

Expansive Media kitchen renovation. Chris Seeger at Chester County Kitchen & Bath and clients designed and built a totally new kitchen showpiece in this Media Pennsylvania ranch home. The whole space was transformed. We raised the ceiling height in the kitchen to 10 foot, removed walls, and widened existing openings. This opened up the space to allow it to become the center stage this family and home needed. New window were also installed to allow for the central range and hood. New solid oak flooring was installed and finished to match the homes original wood floors. The foyer was transformed with new 2 ½” x10” tile flooring set in a herringbone pattern. Inset Fieldstone Cabinetry in the Charlaine Door in a white painted finish were installed on the perimeter with tall cabinetry to the new shiplap board ceiling. The central island was a great choice in Fieldstone Cabinetry’s new finish Homestead Fog. New tile backsplash with focal point behind the new range and Polar Stone countertops in Calacatta Vagli make the space. The lead carpenter on site Steve McHenry did a great job on everything especially including the blending of the new space perfectly into the original home with trims and finishes. From the new sliding barn door to the pantry, the open shelving above the farm sink, and the great fixtures and appliances this project has too much to list.
