In the large space, we added framing detail to separate the room into a joined, but visually zoned room. This allowed us to have a separate area for the kids games and a space for gathering around the TV during a moving or while watching sports. We added a large ceiling light to lower the ceiling in the space as well as soffits to give more visual dimension to the room. The large interior window in the back leads to an office up the stairs. The living room has a built-in media niche. The cabinet doors are paneled in white to match the walls while the top is a natural live edge in Monkey Pod wood. The feature wall was highlighted by the use of modular arts in the same color as the walls but with a texture reminiscent of ripples on water. On either side of the TV hang a cluster of wooden pendants. The paneled walls and ceiling are painted white creating a seamless design. The teak glass sliding doors pocket into the walls creating an indoor-outdoor space. The great room is decorated in blues, greens and whites, with a jute rug on the floor, a solid log coffee table, slip covered white sofa, and custom blue and green throw pillows.

Family members enter this kitchen from the mud room where they are right at home in this friendly space. The Kitchens central banquette island seats six on cozy upholstered benches with another two diners at the ends. There is table seating for EIGHT plus the back side boasts raised seating for four more on swiveling bar stools. The show-stopping coffered ceiling was custom designed and features beaded paneling, recessed can lighting and dramatic crown molding. The counters are made of Labradorite which is often associated with jewels. It's iridescent sparkle adds glamour without being too loud. The wood paneled backsplash allows the cabinetry to blend in. There is glazed subway tile behind the range. This lovely home features an open concept space with the kitchen at the heart. Built in the late 1990's the prior kitchen was cherry, but dark, and the new family needed a fresh update. This comfortable Living and TV watching room features "performance upholstery fabrics" to create an elegant yet low maintenance pair of light color sofas, and faux leather swivel chairs. Manufacturers include Kravet Fabric and Kravet Furniture, Currey and Company, Lee Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, Global Views, Truett Fine Carpets and Rugs, McGannons Showroom, Bungalow 5 and Pindler Fabrics.

This redesigned family room was relieved of cumbersome tv cabinetry in favor of a flatscreen over the fireplace. The fireplace was tiled in pastel strip tiles Firecrystals replaced the old logs. This is a favorite gathering place for both family and friends. Photos by Harry Chamberlain.

The compact living room is both cozy and functional for the homeowner and her daughter. There is plenty of seating for visitors and the small coffee table is a great space for the daughter to sit on the floor cushion and draw.

Our clients purchased a 1963 home that had never been updated! They wanted to redesign the central living area, which included the kitchen, formal dining and living room/den. Their original kitchen was small and completely closed off from the rest of the house. They wanted to repurpose the formal living room into the new formal dining room and open up the kitchen to the den and add a large island with seating for casual dining. The original den was now a nice living room, open to the kitchen, but also with a great view to their new pool! They wanted to keep some walls for their fun New Orleans one-of-a-kind artwork. They also did not want to be able to see the kitchen from the entryway. They also wanted a bar area built in somewhere, they just weren’t sure where. Our designers did an amazing job on this project, figuring out where to cut walls, where to keep them, replaced windows with doors, bringing the outdoors in and really brightening up the entire space. Inspired by the vivid tones of the surrounding waterways, we created a calming sanctuary. The grand open concept required us to define areas for sitting, dining and entertaining that were cohesive in overall design. The thread of the teal color weaves from room to room as a constant reminder of the beauty surrounding the home. Lush textures make each room a tactile experience as well as a visual pleasure. A custom millwork piece in the living room was designed to house an entertainment center, work space, and mud room storage for this 1700 square foot loft in Tribeca. Reclaimed gray wood clads the storage and compliments the gray leather desk. Blackened Steel works with the gray material palette at the desk wall and entertainment area. An island with customization for the family dog completes the large, open kitchen. The floors were ebonized to emphasize the raw materials in the space.

This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved. The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.
