Our pool designers will ask you if you are looking for a geometric or freeform pool. A geometric pool can be a great fit for a modern décor, and a freeform pool can be combined with hardscape to create your own backyard oasis. Some homeowners are really looking for that WOW factor, and invest in a show-stopping infinity, or negative edge pool. Our socially engaged, active client transplanted from the East Coast found a charming older home in Minneapolis that provided a home base in a new city. While the home had its charm, the dark interior didn’t provide the uplifting respite she desired. With a busy travel schedule and calendar full of after-hours social events, she was looking for a space to unwind at the end of a long day. She wanted to maximize her time at home, and a place to host friends pre-gala. We transformed an extra bedroom into a happy-hour type lounge with upholstered chairs and bar cart along with her Grandmother’s vanity and privacy screen for the ultimate pre-gala experience. In the kitchen, we replaced the dark cabinetry with open painted shelves to lighten the space and provide convenient access to her glassware, adding sparkle to the room. And perhaps most importantly, her bedroom is now a quiet, peaceful refuge with luxurious details that wrap her in warmth and relaxation.

Designed in collaboration with Cameo Kitchens, “Fusion —
The Kitchen of Tomorrow” exhibits how technology and design work
in perfect harmony. The backsplash is an interactive panel consisting of
three HD monitors, which allow multi-functionality: enjoying a favourite
scene, Skyping with family and friends, viewing cooking videos or recipes, browsing websites and social media, displaying children’s artwork, or presenting a slideshow of family photos. If sports are the preference, watching three events simultaneously is simple. The raised
breakfast bar is made of semi-precious stone, which is backlit with LED
panels to complement the luxe high-gloss walnut and white lacquer cabinetry. Interior illumination is activated at a touch of the automated servo drive doors and drawers. The kitchen design won a Luxury Portfolio, “Best of the Best” Award from Robb Report.

The Clients contacted Cecil Baker + Partners to reconfigure and remodel the top floor of a prominent Philadelphia high-rise into an urban pied-a-terre. The forty-five story apartment building, overlooking Washington Square Park and its surrounding neighborhoods, provided a modern shell for this truly contemporary renovation. Originally configured as three penthouse units, the 8,700 sf interior, as well as 2,500 square feet of terrace space, was to become a single residence with sweeping views of the city in all directions.
The Client’s mission was to create a city home for collecting and displaying contemporary glass crafts. Their stated desire was to cast an urban home that was, in itself, a gallery. While they enjoy a very vital family life, this home was targeted to their urban activities - entertainment being a central element.
The living areas are designed to be open and to flow into each other, with pockets of secondary functions. At large social events, guests feel free to access all areas of the penthouse, including the master bedroom suite. A main gallery was created in order to house unique, travelling art shows.
Stemming from their desire to entertain, the penthouse was built around the need for elaborate food preparation. Cooking would be visible from several entertainment areas with a “show” kitchen, provided for their renowned chef. Secondary preparation and cleaning facilities were tucked away.
The architects crafted a distinctive residence that is framed around the gallery experience, while also incorporating softer residential moments. Cecil Baker + Partners embraced every element of the new penthouse design beyond those normally associated with an architect’s sphere, from all material selections, furniture selections, furniture design, and art placement.

KAZE Interior Design Studio designed a home for a family of 5 and their dog.
The space needed to be family friendly with the kitchen at its heart. A small corner was set aside for a computer work area and a play corner created right next to the kitchen so that the kids can do their homework without being alienated in a room upstairs. The kitchen has two ovens so that pizzas and a roast can be cooked at the same time. Sofa style seating is also placed close to the kitchen to provide a relaxed area where the kids can play games and do craft activities.
The dining area is situated at the very end as this is only used when guests are invited to dine. The large TV and playroom and kids’ rooms upstairs are hardly used as all social events take place downstairs. In the parent’s room, a walk in closet and bathroom is made “en-suite” and the shower is pushed out to the terrace so that talking a shower in the morning is like waking up in a resort. Wood is used as a material throughout the entire house and in that sense, it reflects the Nordic touch and idea of our heritage.

HNA Hardscape Project Award Winner
Morrison Residence
Roswell, GA

The challenge with this project was the client’s large property had no real usable backyard for their large family. The property dropped off quickly starting at 30 ft out their back door. We used this fall in elevation to our advantage by creating a stunning vanishing edge swimming pool which gives the feeling of being in the mountains. The owners wanted a backyard oasis for entertainment and social functions. All the boxes were ticked off on this project. Spa and waterfall with stream, vanishing edge pool, and pool side bar with built in bar stools, beach entry, outdoor entertainment system, night lighting system, outdoor kitchen and fire pit. They even have a putting green and children’s play area. We used the grade changes to our advantage by designing three separate terrace levels surrounding the pool. The upper level contains the outdoor kitchen, fire pit and spa. The large second level includes the stream, beach entry and plenty of area for chase lounges and pool side activity, while the lower level takes advantage of the bar stools at the deep end and the cantilevered stone slab bar top.
