Coconut Grove is Southwest of Miami beach near coral gables and south of downtown. It’s a very lush and charming neighborhood. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods and is protected historically. It hugs the shoreline of Biscayne Bay. The 10,000sft project was originally built
17 years ago and was purchased as a vacation home. Prior to the renovation the owners could not get past all the brown. He sails and they have a big extended family with 6 kids in between them. The clients wanted a comfortable and causal vibe where nothing is too precious. They wanted to be able to sit on anything in a bathing suit. KitchenLab interiors used lots of linen and indoor/outdoor fabrics to ensure durability. Much of the house is outside with a covered logia.
The design doctor ordered the 1st prescription for the house- retooling but not gutting. The clients wanted to be living and functioning in the home by November 1st with permits the construction began in August. The KitchenLab Interiors (KLI) team began design in May so it was a tight timeline! KLI phased the project and did a partial renovation on all guest baths. They waited to do the master bath until May. The home includes 7 bathrooms + the master. All existing plumbing fixtures were Waterworks so KLI kept those along with some tile but brought in Tabarka tile. The designers wanted to bring in vintage hacienda Spanish with a small European influence- the opposite of Miami modern. One of the ways they were able to accomplish this was with terracotta flooring that has patina. KLI set out to create a boutique hotel where each bath is similar but different. Every detail was designed with the guest in mind- they even designed a place for suitcases.

An elegantly casual space open to the kitchen and the patio beyond welcomes in the coastal view. Neutral tones are enhanced by warm cinnamon in the pillow fabrics as well as the wood. The faux stone top on the coffee table incorporates bits of shell and other organic matter. Photo by Chris Snitko

Classic bedroom in wood Louis XVI style White and Gold. The bedroom is characterized by the classic bed in carved walnut wood Louis XVI style. To note the bed headboard, enriched by precious carvings made by hand and with gold leaf finish, that stand out on the white finish that characterize the rest of the bed. Same carvings and finishings also for the footboard of this beautiful classic bed in wood. To complete the classic bedroom in wood White and Gold the night tables, both in classic version and king size-formed, the beautiful chest of drawers and the magnificent carved dressing table. The night tables, in white over gold finish like so the classic bed, are realized in walnut wood and present graceful garlands of flowers that climb on the little columns of classic school, or they are realized with more geometrical and meticulous shapes, with refined and sober golden carvings. The same luxury finishing is also found in the Greek frets, all carved by hand in the walnut wood, that enrich the composition, giving to this bedroom a rich appearance and at the same time very bright and homely. Very particular the effect given by the special finish white over gold, that consist in application on all the furniture that compose this bedroom a shining coat of gold leaf, for then apply the white finish with brush strokes artistically irregular: and here this wonderful classic bedroom in walnut acquire very particular antiqued shades, without giving up to the splendor of the gold. One Riverside Park is New York’s most distinguished new address, introducing a new level of luxury to waterfront living on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. With floor to ceiling windows throughout you enjoy sweeping views of the Hudson and feel the energy of the fast-paced city that never sleeps just floors below you. With this interior the client wanted to capture that excitement but maintain a cool + comfortable environment. What we came up with is what we refer to as Industrial Chic – an interior that celebrates the grit and sexiness of the city but also embraces the metropolitan chicness that only Manhattan can provide. We took raw elements such as blackened steel, bronze and concrete and paired them with soft, tactile fabrics like cottons, silk, leathers + furs in subtle shades of greys + neutral tones to create an inviting, artistic + unique atmosphere. It’s the small yet subtle details of this interior that set the mood – buffalo leather clad columns + walls, crystal + LED wallpapers, fur rugs + bed throws and polished precious metal details throughout.
DL featured product:
DL Custom Upholstery: multi-directional sofa, DLUSH media group, modernist bedroom suite. I placed the large outdoor umbrella on the outside of the wall so as not to take up precious square footage. It arches over the entire patio which is a practical and easy solution for an exposed patio.

- BIFRONTE SIDE TABLE. The Ripples bench by Toyo Ito, winner of the 2004 Golden Compass, has blossomed into a collection of different furniture complements. Amongst them, we may highlight the Bifronte side table, where a small portion of Ripples is framed in a shelf of extra clear glass, creating a ''trompe l'oeil'' effect of mid-air suspension. Bifronte becomes a nightstand with the addition of a capacious drawer on wheels. This presents white lacquered and walnut fronts, to better integrate with the overall chromatic disposition of the sleeping area.

The mellow lines of the sofa seating perfectly combine with the core geometries of the wall accessories and low tables in a harmonious balance with irrefutable charm. The canon of classic beauty in all its charm is invoked in the living rooms from the Liberty collection, a mix of classicism and flair of undeniably Italian design provenance. The feeling of space finds a perfect harmony in the study of the light of colours creating a symphony of rare preciousness.

Moments spent in a living room from the Rossini collection transport you amazingly to another era, a time defined by history as a “new” renaissance, with the elegance and exquisite taste which permeate every element of the furniture. The soft sofas harmoniously interact with the sharp lines of the wall accessories, in a memorable ensemble defined by the elegance and taste of the juxtaposing colours and materials, such as the frame in Makassar effect encircled by precious Swarovski.

The homeowners of this condo sought our assistance when downsizing from a large family home on Howe Sound to a small urban condo in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver. They asked us to incorporate many of their precious antiques and art pieces into the new design. Our challenges here were twofold; first, how to deal with the unconventional curved floor plan with vast South facing windows that provide a 180 degree view of downtown Vancouver, and second, how to successfully merge an eclectic collection of antique pieces into a modern setting. We began by updating most of their artwork with new matting and framing. We created a gallery effect by grouping like artwork together and displaying larger pieces on the sections of wall between the windows, lighting them with black wall sconces for a graphic effect. We re-upholstered their antique seating with more contemporary fabrics choices - a gray flannel on their Victorian fainting couch and a fun orange chenille animal print on their Louis style chairs. We selected black as an accent colour for many of the accessories as well as the dining room wall to give the space a sophisticated modern edge. The new pieces that we added, including the sofa, coffee table and dining light fixture are mid century inspired, bridging the gap between old and new. White walls and understated wallpaper provide the perfect backdrop for the colourful mix of antique pieces. Interior Design by Lori Steeves, Simply Home Decorating.
