THE SETUP
Sam’s clients wanted to update their hall bathroom used by their three children. The goal was to create a space that is both kid-friendly and elegant, ensuring it remains functional and stylish as the children grow. The original bathroom felt confined due to dark materials and a single-sink vanity. The challenge was to find a design that looks great now and in the future.
Design objectives:
Create a sense of spaciousness
Increase storage for bathroom necessities and daily routines
Enhance lighting
THE REMODEL
Design challenges to be solved:
No structural changes – must keep the tub and wall structure
Transforming a small, dark space into a bright, open one without adding a new window
Multi-user-minded – Improving functionality for multiple users simultaneously
Timeless & kid-friendly – create a comfy kid-friendly look that won’t appear dated as the kids grow older
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design solutions:
Slimmer Tub and Sliding Shower Door installed to free up functional space, making the bathroom feel larger.
Lighter Materials used to reflect more light and add a vibrant feel. Open shelves above the toilet provide storage without making the space feel cramped, while allowing light from the existing window to permeate.
Dual Sink Vanity added, and split the mirror into two, creating individual stations for the kids and enhancing usability during busy routines.
Kid-Friendly Features – Incorporated toe-kick lighting that works as a nightlight, a lower-mounted shower handheld, and a large, accessible shower niche. The geometric shapes and blue color palette contribute to a fun yet sophisticated look.
The clients are thrilled with the transformation. The bathroom is now fun and elegant, providing a timeless look that will grow with the kids. They appreciate the increased functionality and the bright, open feel of the space.
This remodel successfully blends practical solutions with stylish design, ensuring the hall bathroom meets the needs of a busy family while maintaining a sophisticated look.

Project Description
Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Precision Home Installation
This project features the professional installation of the next-generation Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 system. Known for their upgraded brightness and enhanced color rendering, these lights require a precise, calculated layout—especially since the manufacturer guidelines restrict cutting into the main line, presenting a unique installation challenge.
Key Features of This Installation:
Next-Gen Exterior Illumination: Outfitted with the newly released Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, delivering brilliant architectural down-lighting, incredible holiday presets, and daily accent lighting.
Creative Technical Problem Solving: Because these specialized strands could not be cut without voiding the integrity of the system, we meticulously engineered the run layout. To achieve a perfectly flush finish at the roofline edge, we successfully executed a custom shortening and capping technique on the final strands.
Flawless Eave Integration: The lights were mounted at the optimal distance from the fascia to ensure a perfectly uniform, triangular cone wash down the home's exterior walls, eliminating hot spots and dark gaps.
Smart Ecosystem Control: Fully integrated into the homeowner's smart ecosystem, allowing for voice control, scheduled automation, and endless customization through the native app interface.
Our Specialized Lighting Expertise
Smart lighting systems require more than just hanging a strand—they require precision planning. We specialize in handling high-end retail and commercial systems, providing:
Advanced Layout Mapping: Ensuring your runs look symmetrical and perfectly tailored to your roofline before a single clip is mounted.
Out-of-the-Box Troubleshooting: Finding safe, manufacturer-approved technical workarounds for complex roof lines where standard plug-and-play methods fall short.
Clean Wire Management: Tucking and hiding all jump wires and power supplies for a seamless daytime appearance.

Kitchens are constantly referred to as the “center or heart” of the home. This kitchen is truly the center of this home and full of heart! Living space on each end of this kitchen and an entry to the lower level-challenged our designer with opening this kitchen to more light and workable space.
That wasn’t even the full extent of challenges-this kitchen in order to gain more space also needed to house the laundry. Combining two rooms into one cohesive space for the daily task of cooking and laundry put Roeser to the test. Our team made sure every inch was not only workable but also provided the most storage space as well. After solving these requests, there was just one more request……a television for Dad, the only thing he asked for.
We believe our design team nailed it and our craftsman brought it to life!
Wellborn Select Harmony Maple Cabinets in a Sandstone finish brightened the surround of the once dark kitchen and the same cabinet style in a Sienna Charcoal finish created the island adding warmth and depth to the space.
From the neutral tones, the space “pops” with color in the backsplash. Using a combination of tiles, the backsplash came together with three tile favorites adding interest and color. Two rows of AE “Tongue in Chic” 2 ½” X 10 ½” in Latte are followed by one row or AE “Man About You” Mademoiselle Gloss Bar liner and then PMI Tara Blend Lantern from the countertop to bottom of the wall cabinets.
Two new ViWincoCasement Windows added to the newness of the space and provide a beautiful view from their kitchen. In addition, 5” LED can lights, Xenon under counter lights, and two island pendant lights, all on dimmers, provide all the lighting necessary for either task or ambiance lighting.
Century “Estate Plank” pre-finish hardwood flooring was installed in a straight pattern grounded the space adding to its beauty.New stainless steel appliances include a GE cabinet depth French door refrigerator, GE dishwasher with top controls, 30” Sharp microwave drawer, and a Jen-Aire30” range finishes out all the modern conveniences.
A custom corner cabinet, built in the Roeser mill-shop, housed the television and provided storage above.
Laundry is hidden in a banquet of cabinets with slide back doors. The Bosch Compact washer and dryer front loaders in white area perfect fit. The long countertop matching the rest of the kitchen in the 3 cm Snowfall Granite provides plenty of room for folding clothes.

Like many families with older children, this local Glen Ellyn couple wanted to expand the size of their kitchen while also creating a more open, airy feel for their main level. The home had plenty of space that included a formal living room, formal dining room, family room with eat-in area and kitchen with butler’s pantry. What it didn’t have, was an effortless flow between the areas used daily for cooking, eating and gathering.
Additionally, the kitchen had become outdated, feeling dark and dismal, despite the abundance of natural light. Our clients wanted a bright, cheerful interior that would inspire the family to congregate in this part of the house. No easy feat with teenagers.
An open floor plan design solved the issues with functionality and circulation, removing the walls that restricted flow and opening up the entry to the dining room. We also eliminated the rarely used butler’s pantry allowing us to expand the kitchen and add a large island for food prep and gathering. To create a sense of symmetry and consistency in the space, a clerestory window was added below the header and framed to match the existing adjacent entry from the living room.
Inspired by the owner’s Scottish ancestry, the island cabinetry boasts a beautiful blue hue, paired with stools upholstered in a sprightly plaid. The built-in buffet area provides additional storage, topped with a beautiful wooden top stained to coordinate with the stunning tones of the flooring.
The owner’s opted for stainless steel appliances, inspiring the selection of brushed silver light fixtures and polished chrome hardware. Marble-look quartz offered a durable, lightly colored surface to reflect sunlight and enhance the cheer factor. According to this happy family, this uplifting space is now everyone’s favorite place to gather.

The original kitchen in this historic River Forest home was a hodgepodge of design elements created by additions to the space over the years. From a functional standpoint, the layout was overly complicated. The kitchen was an L shape with the work triangle in the small leg of the L. It was a fairly large space, but the layout made it feel like a very small kitchen. (See ‘before’ photo below.)
The traffic flow from other areas of the home entered at awkward locations, rendering some walls useless for storage or workspace.
In addition to solving functionality and flow issues, the homeowner wanted their new kitchen area to have an updated look that still tied into the home’s English Tudor style.
THE REMODEL
We took everything down to the studs and reestablished design elements like existing beams and a very particular texture on the walls and ceiling. The short leg of the L was closed off and a nice-sized walk-in pantry was put in its place. This functions as the major storage area now – just a few wall cabinets are visible for the everyday dishes.
Entries into the space were closed off and relocated to help the overall traffic flow of the home. The windows and exterior doors in the room were removed and relocated. The new ones were finished in a style to match those in some of the existing parts of the home.
THE RENEWED SPACE
This kitchen now has a nice, spacious feel for this growing family of five. A large arch was built to enclose the range and disguise some architectural details that could not be changed. This was carefully finished in the same textured surface as the original walls.
Pantries are now strategically located on both sides of the range area: a pull-out pantry on one side and a shallower pantry on the other side. The large island functions as a spacious work area and a central hub for the busy family’s many daily activities.
The transitional design elements and subdued, neutral color palette contribute to what is now a very calming and functional space for the entire family.

"We converted an exterior window to a door (which required moving wires, new framing, tile floor transitioning, stucco replacement and painting to match exterior, and hardware install), removed spa tub in master bath and replaced with a custom designed tile ""rug"", replaced shower/tub in guest bathroom with a walk-in shower, replaced kitchen/bath cabinetry with new custom designed cabinets and installed new hardware on them, installed Quartz counter tops on multi-surfaces, updated a complete surround sound system for multiple rooms, installed new Smart TV in kitchen, hung art pieces, installed new gas line and electrical for outdoor BBQ, converted all overhead lighting to LED cams, installed new electrical plugs throughout, installed new decorate lights inside and outside, and installed and plumbed new sinks, dishwasher and water faucets in kitchen, laundry and bathrooms.

We have worked with many contractors over the years, and this crew of Kerry, Jake, Randall and Kevin were incredibly fantastic to work with! The professionalism and expertise of this young crew were EXCEPTIONAL!!!! There was not one job too small or one job too big. ""No"" was never an answer to any question. The price was right on target throughout, their promptness for each day's work was consistent, a day did not go by that we didn't know what the schedule was or who was coming, they were all extremely intelligent and capable of problem-solving any issue, they created a pleasant and fun atmosphere amid all the dust, and the workplace was kept clean at all times. Kerry is the key to this whole project. His organizational skills were incredible and kept everything running smoothly DAILY. We were never out of touch with him. He has an easy going/friendly manner that never was frazzled. His pricing was on target for agreed upon and added tasks as the project ensued. His paperwork presentation was very thorough and left nothing to question. All in all, this company is a gem! They became friends. How cool is that?"
