After moving from their waterfront home, this family needed their North Raleigh home to feel like a seaside escape. The existing kitchen was very traditional with heavy moldings and medium toned wood. By replacing with white inset cabinetry and running it to the ceiling we brightened the whole space. Cabinetry that had been between the kitchen and family room was removed allowing the wall to be opened up for a more unified space that better serves their family.

Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional l-shaped light wood floor eat-in kitchen remodel in San Francisco with an undermount sink, raised-panel cabinets, medium tone wood cabinets, granite countertops, white backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

The owners of this contemporary home wanted a sleek and stylish space that was practical for their everyday lifestyle. By installing White Macaubas honed quartzite countertops, they were able to obtain the look of white marble without its porous qualities and maintenance. The island with its box miter edge detail and waterfall sides is truly the focal point of this kitchen. Their shimmering glass tile backsplash and stainless steel farmhouse sink add to the updated modern design.

The kitchen is open to the dinette and great room with additional light from the beautiful exterior switch back stair case. The ceiling is painted white bead board to add some texture above the white cabinetry. Darker stained hardwood floors give contrast to this pristine presentation.

The kitchen of this adorable 1925 “Sears Bungalow” did not match the charm of the rest of the house. The range, sink, dishwasher and all the cabinets were squeezed onto an eight foot wall. The refrigerator was by the back door and if someone came in the door you couldn’t open the refrigerator. A previous owner opened the wall between the kitchen and an adjacent bedroom. The converted space was made into a dining area however they added a counter that divided the space into little rooms. There was adequate square footage but the layout made the area seemed cramped. By relocating the back door and adding a closet bump out on the side of the home, a proper kitchen was planned. The farm sink was relocated under a new window, honed black granite countertops flanked both sides of the new range area and there was space for a “coffee bar” next to the new refrigerator. The homeowner wanted to keep the 1920’s feel of the house but still wanted all the modern amenities. All new appliances including a slide-out hood make cooking a breeze. The white cabinets included some of their favorite details in kitchens they had seen such as cups shelves, cut-outs and furniture feet. They also choose Linoleum for the floor. It is easy to maintain and hides any scratches made by the two Dachshunds. The previous closet in this room was removed and a planning desk was installed. The space is lovingly finished with antique furniture and accessories to make this remodeled kitchen a charming gathering spot.

This project was completed in conjunction with the construction of the home. The home’s architect was looking for someone who could design and build a new driveway, front entrance, walkways, patio, fencing, and plantings.
The gardens were designed for the homeowner who had a real appreciation for gardening and was looking for variety and colour. The plants are all perennials that are relatively low maintenance while offering a wide variety of colours, heights, shapes and textures. For the hardscape, we used a Mondrian slab interlock for the main features and added a natural stone border for architectural detail.
