This 1926 Tudor home has been well maintained throughout the years and while the kitchen had been updated by a previous owner, the current owner knew the kitchen could become even better. Knowing her desires (which include: more storage, fun color, space to display art, durability, versatility and a space designed with the motive to invite people in), the brainstorming began. During brainstorming, an addition of a small, back entry was considered. Though this would accomplish many benefits it was decided that with careful planning great improvements could be made while staying within the original footprint.
All in all, many of the original cabinets were kept, matched and added to. A new range was installed on the opposite wall to allow for a large pantry in its original location. New floating shelving and a curved countertop integrates into the South/east corner which best utilizes the short wall, tight to the window. This curved countertop also allows for a perching spot for the owner’s morning coffee and/or guests to hangout and visit. Now that the remodel is complete, the kitchen better reflects the owners purposeful, hospitable, well-made, fun, colorful, artistic and caring personality!

We wanted to keep every activity connected with gardens and want visual & personal connection between all the floors.
At the same time we don't want any boxy or overpowering structure on this South-East corner. So, we created staggered volumes resulting into terrace gardens at every level by giving a natural stepped form.

This is an exterior shot of the Southeast patio corner along hwy. 89 A showing a combination of dry stack stone, split faced block, rusted metal and psot and beam architecture which is part of the modern rustic style that is popular today. In Arizona this style is done in combination with southwestern style exterior finishes as well to include stucco and large vertical slab sandstone tiles. You can adapt this style either more towards a mid-century design or towards the southwestern rustic style as I originally designed for this restaurant.

When it comes to building with brick, the beauty is in the details. The brick quoins at the corners of this home and brick steps with special shape brick add instant curb appeal.

There’s so much to love about the La-Z-boy Natalie Sofa. With classic lines, deeply cushioned seats and back, flared roll arms and wood legs, it’s no wonder these two accent pillows call it home.

Masonry blocks at the corner of a wall, called quoins, enhance a brick home's presence and beauty. http://insistonbrick.com/
