Hillside coastal terrace restoration, designed to stabilize the bank while drawing pollinators and native animals. This stunning home is located just above the beach in the desirable Rio Del Mar neighborhood in Aptos. My client poured her soul into the remodel which took the home down to studs. She has impeccable, contemporary taste and the home is a piece of art. We needed exquisite landscaping to tie the outside to the inside. Deeply contrasting and textural foliage-based design, copper gutters, and gorgeous light sconces now set off this contemporary gem. For the steep back hillside, we opted to do a hillside restoration and chose plants that existed in coastal terrace ecosystem prior to development. We removed tons of invasive iceplant and the whole hillside now buzzing with hummingbirds and pollinators, in addition to framing the ocean view with an undulating tapestry of plants. You can actually see spouting whales from the deck!

Crafted from the very Maple tree that once stood in our client's yard in Brighton, Michigan, the wood was carefully preserved after being removed during the construction of their dream home. Rather than allowing that piece of their property's history to disappear, it was transformed into an heirloom dining table that will continue creating memories for generations to come. The live edges preserve the tree's natural character, while black epoxy was thoughtfully incorporated to stabilize and enhance the wood's distinctive features. The custom metal legs were intentionally chosen to resemble tree trunks, strengthening the connection between the finished table and the tree from which it came. Every meal shared around this table serves as a reminder of where the family's story began and the memories still waiting to be made. This classic estate sits on over 30 acres of land. Fairfield House & Garden managed all the site work, hardscape, and plantings. As you travel up the long, curved driveway you approach the limestone-enclosed cobblestone parking courtyard complete with granite paver inlays. This grand courtyard allowed for the placement of Specimen Columnar Purple Beech Trees as well as Hydrangea, Roses, Boxwoods and Holly. The back of the home consists of two formal sod panel lawns with perimeters of white marble stabilized gravel paths. Adjacent to the timeless Japanese Maple tree is a 70ft formal fountain. Continuing down the stunning stone staircase that is surrounded by lush plantings, you are led to a sprawling great lawn.

This backyard paradise began with a muddy site, with all the grading sloping directly to the proposed poolside patio. The design for this outdoor living area would need to incorporate many challenges: * The grading issues would be corrected with retaining walls, which would create a warm yet expansive area and provide additional seating. * The pillars would require careful notching to insert the hardware for the pool gate. * The patio would need to incorporate stormwater storage underneath. * The edge of the poolside patio would require stabilization to prevent future settlement adjacent to the concrete pool deck.

Inspiration for an eclectic bathroom remodel in Atlanta

The last house on a dirt road in the hills of Southern Vermont. This house has had many lives. The property itself has as well. While exploring the woods and fields, we found an old cellar hole and a beautiful pond that looked man-made with berms not of beaver origin. The old barn and outbuildings themselves were probably not in their original locations and had been turned into a summer camp half a century ago. We initially looked at various options including leaving the barn alone and creating a new building, dismantling the barn and re-using the frame and moving the barn and creating a new foundation for it. We ended up leaving the barn in place and stabilizing the existing stone foundation. The design process was intensive and thorough as we endeavored to make the most of the inherent possibilities within the framework of what we had chosen to retain. The resulting home is very insulated, airtight and warm and cozy in the winter as well as bright and airy. This project won a “Best of the Best” award in 2019 from Efficiency Vermont
