A very beige, very boring living room was transformed with paint, artwork and furniture. The inspiration came from the existing painting, seen above the fireplace. The backs of two large bookcases were painted gold in order to display unique and interesting sculptural objects. More texture was added through the use of silk florals and a "popcorn" area rug. This great-room incorporates the living, dining , kitchen as well as access to the back patio. It is the perfect place for entertaining and relaxing. We restored the floors to their original warm tone and used lots of warm neutrals to answer our client’s desire for a more masculine feeling home. A Chinese cabinet and custom-built bookcase help to define an entry hall where one does not exist. We completely remodeled the kitchen and it is now very open and inviting. A Caesarstone counter with an overhang for eating or entertaining allows for three comfortable bar stools for visiting while cooking. Stainless steal appliances and a white apron sink are the only features that still remain. A large contemporary art piece over the new dining banquette brings in a splash of color and rounds out the space. Lots of earth-toned fabrics are part of this overall scheme. The kitchen, dining and living rooms have light cabinetry and walls with accent color in the tile and fireplace stone. The home has lots of added storage for books, art and accessories. In the living room, comfortable upholstered pieces with casual fabrics were created and sit atop a sisal rug, giving the room true California style. For contrast, a dark metal drapery rod above soft white drapery panels covers the new French doors. The doors lead out to the back patio. Photography by Erika Bierman

The Chinese Antique Mirror what the jumping off point of the is Living Room mirrored antique, The Antique Oushak rug was a perfect compliment to the deep turquoise mohair sofa and velvet throw pillows. The Antique Chests that flank the opening just happen to nestle perfectly into the clipped corners and height of the pony wall.

The house is personalized with the owner's collection of modern Chinese art and Asian artifacts. This piece is illuminated with a custom art light. Continuous LED lighting is integrated into a cove moulding to uplight the arched ceiling.

The family room is cozy with box beam ceilings, built-in cabinets on either side of the fireplace and plenty of natural light. This home is within Portland's Multnomah Village neighborhood.

Dropped soffits were removed and original ceiling heights were restored with new crown moldings, paneled walls and custom built-ins, to bring Old World glamour back to this Upper East Side apartment. From this vantage point we can see the other side of the room, which features a spectacular red lacquered Chinese cabinet, sourced from Wertz Bros, and a Rose Tarlow black lacquer and gold console in the corner, serving as a drinks area. Artwork is largely vintage, including an 1870's era map of US Territories, and Russian and Mongolian prints of turn-of-the-century costumes. Fabrics are layered in and repeated, like toile pillows with fancy Schumacher fringe on the sofas, to match the side chairs, and small Kathryn Ireland bolsters to repeat the Victorian chair and ottoman in the corner. Pink/Cranberry leopard print velvet from Timothy Corrigan for Schumacher pillows add an unexpected punch of modern color and glamor.
