Drawing from the blue tones in the family’s heirloom tapestry, we chose Blue China by Valspar for the walls of this transitional living room. It ties the room together while evoking the feeling of antique shopping in New York City and admiring the Chinese porcelain that you find there. Vintage décor, a pair of custom-made traditional-style ottomans, and intricate patterned curtains are another nod to this history, while built-in bookshelves, a simple and refined fireplace, and the sleek frame of a chandelier offer modern touches that take this space from traditional to transitional.

I respected the original architecture of the space, adding only touches of elegant dark woods and Chinese antiquities. This room was full of the wrong size furniture when I entered it, and once cleared away, the space provided the use of two love seats flanked at the fireplace, where many Pebble Beach folks linger. I used a bit of dark rust on the cushion fringe, to accent the Chinese trunks and dark woods.The plans of wood on one wall and the stone at the fireplace, was my inspiration for the colors of the upholstery and carpet.

Another side of the living room. B & B Italia chairs, an Art Deco love seat by Leleu with original silver finish and the second Chinese Art Deco rug. Curtains are a pleated linen gauze. Chandelier is one of a pair in the living room original to the house.
