These clients had the project underway when they realized they needed some additional help. They had a great start on demo and selections but were at a standstill on what direction they wanted to go and were questioning if what they were gravitating towards really looked good. They had their own contractor, so we skipped the contractor bid phase and went straight into design development. We came in and confirmed some choices and proposed some new ones. Beautiful wine collections need an equally beautiful display. Our customers located in the Streeterville area had an enormous collection, and we provided them with the added illusion of an enormous wine cellar! One of our favorite elements of this modern wine cellar is the mirrored ceiling. This is a creative trick to provide an infinite appearance that will elude to the idea of having hundreds of shelves! Each corner of this modern wine cellar is complemented by our different racking techniques. Our display shelves allow each bottle to have its own moment of appreciation, to create an artful look that is sure to impress. When our client approached us with an idea of housing their extensive wine collection in their modern high rise residence, we were thrilled! After viewing their incredibly modern home, we realized that we could not provide them with a traditional wine cellar. We were presented with an exciting task of reimagining our traditional displays, to a clean and sleek modern design. As designers, maintaining the flow of a home is very important to us and our mission is to enhance the home’s existing features. From the wine cellar door to the ceiling, we were able to bring our A-game and create a complementary extension to our customer’s home. Our custom wine cellar door is equipped with a matching threshold, that holds all of the cold air in place. When you take a step inside, you are greeted from floor to ceiling with exquisite design. From our customer’s collectible storage boxes to 4 upward facing display shelves, you are immediately aware that this is a work of art. Each display shelf is adorned with its own light strip that further draws attention to the collectible wine bottles. As you glance up further, you see our storage shelves in full force. Playing off of the vast collection, we decided to install a mirrored ceiling. This design element allowed us to have some fun, and to further accentuate the large collection. This modern wine cellar is complete with a clear glass insulated Modern door that creates a temperature-controlled environment, conducive for preserving wine for decades. As designers, we were presented with a wonderful opportunity to showcase several of our strong suits. We were able to provide our client with a modern wine cellar, as well as an engineered, temperature-controlled environment. Like many projects, this one started with a simple wish from a client: turn an unused butler’s pantry between the dining room and kitchen into a fully functioning, climate-controlled wine room for his extensive collection of valuable vintages. But like many projects, the wine room is connected to the dining room which is connected to the sitting room which is connected to the entry. When you touch one room, it only makes sense to reinvigorate them all. We overhauled the entire ground floor of this lovely home. For the wine room, I worked with Vintage Cellars in Southern California to create custom wine storage embedded with LED lighting to spotlight very special bottles. The walls are in a burgundy tone and the floors are porcelain tiles that look as if they came from an old wine cave in Tuscany. A bubble light chandelier alludes to sparkling varietals. But as mentioned, the rest of the house came along for the ride. Since we were adding a climate-controlled wine room, the brief was to turn the rest of the house into a space that would rival any hot-spot winery in Napa. After choosing new flooring and a new hue for the walls, the entry became a destination in itself with a huge concave metal mirror and custom bench. We knocked out a half wall that awkwardly separated the sitting room from the dining room so that after-dinner drinks could flow to the fireplace surrounded by stainless steel pebbles; and we outfitted the dining room with a new chandelier. We chose all new furniture for all spaces. The kitchen received the least amount of work but ended up being completely transformed anyhow. At first our plan was to tear everything out, but we soon realized that the cabinetry was in good shape and only needed the dated honey pine color painted over with a cream white. We also played with the idea of changing the counter tops, but once the cabinetry changed color, the granite stood out beautifully. Our Project Manager, Steve Shanholtz, and Designer, Sarah McDonald, worked hand in hand with our crew to transform this client’s space into a true masterpiece. The primary goal of this project was to open up the kitchen and dining area while maximizing storage options. The bold navy and white color scheme seamlessly flows from this space throughout the rest of the home resulting in a cohesive aesthetic that captivates anyone who steps foot inside. Incorporating cleverly constructed built-ins and lift-up door details, we ensured that every inch of space was optimized for functionality and storage efficiency. We added a vibrant touch to the sea of white subway backsplash with exquisite blue and white tiles that quickly became a focal point adding a splash of charm to the space. Once we started working, the clients realized we could help with another need in the adjoining space: a customized floating bookshelf. This added project was no small feat but was expertly executed, and now our clients extensive collection of books and records have a forever home. From the seamless integration of the kitchen and dining area to the plethora of built-ins, this renovation is a testament to our team’s expertise and dedication in delivering exceptional results.

Blanchard Mountain Farm, a small certified organic vegetable farm, sits in an idyllic location; where the Chuckanut Mountains come down to meet the Samish river basin. The owners found and fell in love with the land, knew it was the right place to start their farm, but realized the existing farmhouse was riddled with water damage, poor energy efficiency, and ill-conceived additions. Our remodel team focused their efforts on returning the farmhouse to its craftsman roots, while addressing the structure’s issues, salvaging building materials, and upgrading the home’s performance. Despite removing the roof and taking the entire home down to the studs, we were able to preserve the original fir floors and repurpose much of the original roof framing as rustic wainscoting and paneling. The indoor air quality and heating efficiency were vastly improved with the additions of a heat recovery ventilator and ductless heat pump. The building envelope was upgraded with focused air-sealing, new insulation, and the installation of a ventilation cavity behind the cedar siding. All of these details work together to create an efficient, highly durable home that preserves all the charms a century old farmhouse. DOWNLOAD NOW   This client came to us in a bit of a panic when she realized that she really wanted her bathroom to be updated by March 1st due to having 2 daughters getting married in the spring and one graduating. We were only about 5 months out from that date, but decided we were up for the challenge. The beautiful historical home was built in 1896 by an ornithologist (bird expert), so we took our cues from that as a starting point. The flooring is a vintage basket weave of marble and limestone, the shower walls of the tub shower conversion are clad in subway tile with a vintage feel. The lighting, mirror and plumbing fixtures all have a vintage vibe that feels both fitting and up to date. To give a little of an eclectic feel, we chose a custom green paint color for the linen cabinet, mushroom paint for the ship lap paneling that clads the walls and selected a vintage mirror that ties in the color from the existing door trim. We utilized some antique trim from the home for the wainscot cap for more vintage flavor. The drama in the bathroom comes from the wallpaper and custom shower curtain, both in William Morris’s iconic “Strawberry Thief” print that tells the story of thrushes stealing fruit, so fitting for the home’s history. There is a lot of this pattern in a very small space, so we were careful to make sure the pattern on the wallpaper and shower curtain aligned. A sweet little bird tie back for the shower curtain completes the story... The BEFORE of What began as a simple request to turn unused outdoor space into a children’s playground evolved into a multi-stage transformation designed for all ages. This growing project started with play structures and safety-focused landscaping for the kids—but as the client’s vision expanded, so did the design. Over time, we added a hot tub, fire pit, and elevated areas for lounging, creating a dynamic outdoor living space that offers both fun and relaxation for every generation. From playful beginnings to a fully realized retreat, this project is a great example of how your space and your vision can grow with you.

The owners wanted to transform their backyard into new indoor/outdoor spaces that would make the area more inviting and usable for family and friends. This was the missing piece in realizing the full enjoyment of their home. The new design accomplishes this, starting with a new sunroom, by enclosing the patio and covered walkway between the existing keeping room and garage. The result is a light, airy space with accordion doors and casement windows that encourage cross ventilation, natural lighting, and easy access to the outside. Truss vaulted ceilings and a plaster-finished fireplace put the finishing touches to the feel of the room. Limestone openings leading to the keeping room make the space part of the original house. A new side porch off the sunroom is positioned to frame a view to the courtyard and a pizza oven, drawing you into the new pool cabana. A space-defining transition occurs at the cabana where the flat, painted tongue and groove ceiling changes to a vaulted ceiling with exposed antique pine beams and rafters. Once in the pool cabana, the ceiling soars upward with antique pine beams supporting exposed rafters and roof decking. The outdoor kitchen beyond features a custom-made black iron barbeque pit among other appliances with two strapped stainless-steel hoods. In the evening, the pool cabana can take on various moods achieved by up and down lighting that is independently controlled along with a large fan creating a constant, cool soothing breeze. The other side opens up to the existing pool in a way that makes it more inviting. The secret to unifying this design with the house is the use of materials such as flagstone floors, washed brick, and antique pine exposed wood members throughout new and existing spaces.
