The interior of the space is designed to provide a smooth, heartwarming, and welcoming environment. With floor to ceiling windows, the views from inside captures the amazing scenery of the great northwest. Uptic Studios provided an open concept design to encourage the family to stay connected with their guests and each other in this spacious modern space. The attention to details gives each element and individual feature its own value while cohesively working together to create the space as a whole.

The clients for this project approached SALA ‘to create a house that we will be excited to come home to’. Having lived in their house for over 20 years, they chose to stay connected to their neighborhood, and accomplish their goals by extensively remodeling their existing split-entry home.

This architectural delight nestled in Brentwood Hills was designed by Edna Muir in 1960 and featured on the cover of Art and Architecture in 1962. Flash forward to today’s remodel where the builder upheld the beautiful design while upgrading the space for today’s tech needs. With every light and shade on the system and full Alexa integration, this home stays connected in just the right ways.

Where to start describing this amazing open kitchen! A large white granite island and farm sink compliment dark wood cabinets and stainless appliances - including a large gas cook top and built-in oven/microwave combo. The open plan connects directly to the Great Room and Dining Room so the chef in the home can stay connected with family and visitors while preparing a large meal. Under cabinet lighting and unique pendants provide warmth to the space, which is topped off, quite literally, with a faux painted barrel vault ceiling that has its own hidden cove lighting. From this perspective you can also see into the spacious Great Room and out the wall of windows to the views beyond.

The classic modern design of this kitchen was planned for an active young family of four who uses the space as their central hub for gathering, eating and staying connected. Our goals were to create a beautiful and highly functional kitchen with an emphasis on cabinet organization, heated floors and incorporating a live edge slab countertop. We removed an existing bulky island and replaced it with a new island that while only 60 x 26 in size packs a powerful punch housing a baking center, trash/recycle center, microwave oven and cookbook storage. The island seemed the natural place for the gorgeous live edge slab coupled with vintage mercury glass light pendants that make for a truly stunning kitchen island. Polished carrara quartz perimeter counters pair beautifully with the watery blue-green glass backsplash tile. A message center conveniently located on a side panel of the refrigerator cabinet houses built in mailboxes, a family calendar and magnetic surface to display the children’s artwork. These custom radiator cabinets have the same design as the kitchen cabinets. I decided to paint them lighter so the living area feels larger and the bold colors in the kitchen stand out. I added tons of storage for all the toys the kids will have lying around and added a desk for the parents to work at while they watch the kids.
