Large craftsman blue two-story mixed siding exterior home idea in Other with a shingle roof

Mini-Creta Architectural has earned its name by its modern twist on the traditional Mini-Creta wall. This new wall boasts brighter colors, sleeker lines and sharper corners to give an overall bolder and fresher look. Mini-Creta Architectural is also available as a Pillar kit.

This California, Spanish-style bungalow gets a fresh new landscape and garden design that replaces the tired lawn with a creeping thyme ground cover and other low-water plantings. The new flagstone pathway, and a small patio echo the terra-cotta tones of the house and are softened by Elfin Thyme planted between the pavers. Colorful pottery and a Fermob Sixties Low Armchair complete the remodel. Design and Photos: © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

Renovation of this remarkable 1936 Monte Copper Tudor demonstrates how we sensitively transform historic homes to beautifully perform in contemporary life. The challenge was to connect first floor spaces, including the kitchen; dining room; and a lower family room added in a previous addition. The family room received thoughtful and appropriate detailing along with a graceful and functional two-sided bar element linking it with the kitchen. The kitchen was expanded and reimagined with a seamless addition. Diagonal views and openings allow all the rooms to function as a connected whole.

The landscape design for this property in an established New York City suburb marries stately elegance with relaxed outdoor living. The greatest challenge of the site was a considerable grade change over a small area (a third of an acre). We replaced overgrown shrubs and crumbling stonework with a clean hardscape design that clearly defines the flow around the property. A long play lawn in front is linked to a sideyard patio space and natural-gas campfire with broad bluestone block steps. A cozy dining terrace behind the house is hugged by a retaining wall that showcases friendly flowering plants and edibles. Set into the terrace wall is a custom water feature that brings sound and movement to the seating area. Exposed ledge in the backyard provides a fun playspace for adventurous kids, with a rope bridge leading to a playhouse.

This clean and classic kitchen features custom cabinetry in a shaker style with a step in Dove White on the perimeter and Sterling on the island. One of the unique features is the second tier of cabinets, not only above the wall cabinets but also over the window instead of typical soffit and crown. For a young couple with 4 children (3 of them triplets), 3 black labs, and a couple of nannies, the expansive space is the perfect set up with plenty of room to maneuver around and plenty of seating. The island has space for 4 and the table adjacent to it seats an additional 6 to 8 people at once. Aside from the centrally located cooking and prepping areas, there is also a coffee center with adjacent pantry storage and a bar area. The perimeter countertops are Cararra marble; the island top, as well as the top at the coffee station, is Mahogany from Grothouse Lumber. Backsplash is Dove Grey handmade ceramic tile from Casa Blanca. Appliances are a mix of Sub-Zero (beverage center, refrigerator/freezer), Wolf (dual fuel range and hood), a Miele coffee maker and a Bosch dishwasher. The stainless steel apron front sink is by Kohler. Designer: Jeni Spaeth

This Tudor style custom home design exudes a distinct touch of heritage and is now nestled within the heart of Town and Country, Missouri. The client wanted a modern open floor plan layout for their family with the ability to entertain formally and informally. They also appreciate privacy and wanted to enjoy views of the rear yard and pool from different vantage points from within the home.
The shape of the house was designed to provide needed privacy for the family from neighboring homes, but also allows for an abundance of glass at the rear of the house; maintaining a connection between indoors and out. A combination of stone, brick and stucco completes the home’s exterior.
The kitchen and great room were designed to create an open yet warm invitation with cathedral ceiling and exposed beams. The living room is bright and clean with a coffered ceiling and fireplace eloquently situated between dual arched entries. This alluring room also steps out onto a courtyard, connecting the pool deck and covered porch.
The large covered porch has an eating area and lounge with TV to watch the game or to enjoy a relaxing fire from the outdoor fireplace. An outdoor bar / kitchen was placed at the far edge of the covered porch and provides a direct link to the pool and pool deck.
The home’s dining room was designed with a stone fireplace, large recessed wall niche and crown molding detail to add a feeling of warmth and serenity.
The master bedroom is a retreat from the main floor level and also has direct access to the pool and patio. A private study was also incorporated with a direct connection to the master bedroom suite.
Each secondary bedroom is a suite with walk in closets and private bathrooms. Over the living room, we placed the kids play room / hang-out space with TV.
The lower level has a 2500 bottle wine room, a guest bedroom suite, a bar / entertainment / game room area and an exercise room.

Designed in conjunction with Vinyet Architecture for homeowners who love the outdoors, this custom home flows smoothly from inside to outside with large doors that extends the living area out to a covered porch, hugging an oak tree. It also has a front porch and a covered path leading from the garage to the mud room and side entry. The two car garage features unique designs made to look more like a historic carriage home. The garage is directly linked to the master bedroom and bonus room. The interior has many high end details and features walnut flooring, built-in shelving units and an open cottage style kitchen dressed in ship lap siding and luxury appliances. We worked with Krystine Edwards Design on the interiors and incorporated products from Ferguson, Victoria + Albert, Landrum Tables, Circa Lighting

The existing split foyer had vinyl siding and a tremendous amount of horizontal lines - a new flagstone walk way and steps were being added with a complete exterior makeover in the beginning stages... After meeting with the client and the landscaper - we realized we needed to develop a covered entry that would really invite you into the home and unify the all work that had been started. The new stone entrance helped you locate the front door but, the exterior finishes did not mesh well; they needed updated. The focal point should be the entry. The split foyer entrance and all the gables definitely created a challenge. The solution: We incorporated exposed cedar beams and exposed cedar roof rafters with a mahogany tongue and groove ceiling to give the entry a warm and different feel. A flag stone walk way anchors the entrance, so we chose to use stone piers to match and large square tapered columns that would support the new entry roof, the covered entry takes shape. Many details are needed to create a proper entry, copper half round gutters with square link copper rain chains are the finishing touches to the grand entry for this home. The exterior siding was changed to a wide exposure cement board siding by the James Hardie company. We used cement shake panels to accent the built out gable areas. The transitions between the siding materials were simplified to achieve a cleaner finished look. New window and door trim, 5/4 x 4 and 5/4 x 6 pvc, complete an almost maintenance free exterior.
