The topography of this large sprawling yard is highlighted with a dry creek bed flowing under a see through corridor of the house to the man made water feature/stream in the backyard.

A new stream winds it's way through the landscape, between boulders and natural plantings. The stream becomes a waterfall into a natural pond, surrounded by large boulders. Seating along the edge and bridges throughout provide human access to this unique water feature.

The owners of this property, located in the Perrinville neighborhood of Edmonds, came to H2D with a vision to design a large addition and attached garage for their home. The project evolved and grew into a partial rebuild of the home, including the new large addition. The stunning waterfront property contained a variety of critical areas which were a challenge to work with, not only in design, but also during construction. For planning purposes, the design was required to conform with the restrictions from a stream, steep slope, and the Puget Sound shoreline, as well as all the associated buffers. During construction, the builders had the challenge to bring all the materials and equipment over the small bridge that crossed the on-site stream in order to access the site and minimize their disturbance of the site due to the stream and shoreline conditions. The existing foundation and main floor system were salvaged and reused. The main floor walls were rebuilt to accommodate the new modern double shed roofline utilizing SIPS panels over exposed wood beams. A new large addition was added to create a new two-car garage at the lower floor and large primary suite at the main floor. The main floor of the home is designed with large windows and doors connecting to the outdoors and sweeping views of the Puget Sound.

The homeowner wanted a lush Rocky Mountain landscape and to disguise the large backyard hillside excavation that during construction of the house. Utilizing numerous on-site boulders, creating a 75' long stream, and planting hundreds of trees, shrubs, and perennials filled out the backyard slope and enclosed the space with interesting colors, textures, and forms.

This Pond renovation and stream and waterfalls addition in Lancaster, PA consisted of draining and cleaning the existing Pond. During cleaning of the pond we made repairs and fixed up fallen pond rock and pond lighting. We then constructed a new stream with various waterfalls coming off the back bank into the existing pond. We added drift wood, moss, and woody plants to give the stream a natural look consistent with the woodsy surroundings.

In this project we removed an old, non-functioning and overgrown koi pond and the surrounding landscape. We dug a new, larger pond (20' x 30' x 2.5' deep) with deep winding stream (20' long). We added two waterfalls, two skimmer filters, low-maintenance pumps, aeration, and algae control unit. This project showcases what can be done with a medium-large space in your backyard, for it includes ample areas for sitting and relaxing, and even incorporates a walking path around the pond and through the stream!

Mosses are essential plant choices for naturalizing waterfalls, streams and other garden water features. Have you ever been to a natural waterfall that didn't have mosses? Mountain Moss helps Mother Nature out by intentionally introducing mosses in stream restoration projects, ponds, bogs, and hardscape water features in new construction.
