Town & Style Magazine
I would characterize this MCM project as a bundle of stress, labor of love in more ways than one. Picture this…clients come in town from LA for one weekend, tour a sprawling 7000 sf home nestled in Frontenac, share their vision with us, and away they go, back to LA, pack up their life and prepare for their move that was quickly approaching. First things first, I must say, it is one of my most favorite projects and homes to date. I. want. this. house. Like, for real.
Walking in the home, you are welcomed by wall to wall sliding glass doors that house an indoor pool, center courtyard, and this [now] gorgeous home wraps itself around these unique centerpieces of living space. You can see the pool and courtyard from almost any point of the home. The natural light, clean lines and mid century modern architecture was preserved and honed back to its remarkable state.
We had to design, project manage, construct the renovations…everything from the ground up within just a few months. Did I mention the kitchen was nearly gutted, new floors, removing walls, bathroom face lifts, overall design, interior and exterior paint, electrical…..whew, I’m tired just reliving the experience.

From start to finish, NV Kitchen and Bath ensures that your Bathroom remodeling & kitchen remodeling project is completed with minimum stress. Our talented designers work with you to fully internalize your project vision, and then translate that vision into an actionable game-plan for our Home re-modelers to act on, whether it’s changing the Bathtubs, Tiles, Mirrors, Floors, kitchen countertops, cabinets, chimneys, faucets, or any other part which needs a little repair. The end result? Your kitchen remodeling project will exceed your expectation in every way!

There are several advantages for homeowners to see 3D renderings of their pool outdoor projects before construction begins. Here are some of the key benefits:
Visualization: 3D renderings provide homeowners with a realistic visualization of their pool design. They can see how the design will look in their outdoor space from various angles, which helps them make informed decisions about the design.
Design Changes: If homeowners want to make changes to the pool design, 3D renderings make it easy to see how those changes will look in the final product. They can make adjustments to the design and see the results in real time, which saves time and money in the long run.
Cost-Efficiency: 3D renderings can help homeowners save money on their pool projects. They can make design changes before construction begins, which can prevent costly mistakes and delays.
Planning: 3D renderings allow homeowners to plan their outdoor space more efficiently. They can see how the pool design interacts with their landscaping, patio, and other outdoor features. This helps them plan the layout of their outdoor space and make informed decisions about other outdoor features.
Peace of Mind: 3D renderings provide homeowners with peace of mind. They can see the final product before construction begins, which reduces stress and anxiety about the project.

Bedroom wallpaper installation – San Diego, CA. In this contemporary bedroom, we used wallpaper with a subtle woven texture in warm gray, applied behind the bed wall for a soft, grounding effect. The paper complements minimalist furniture and adds visual warmth without the need for color or heavy pattern.

This spa-like primary bath carries away the stress of long days since it was designed by designer Sheri Knapke of Bath Tune-Up Columbus North. A soft color palette coupled with natural light provides the perfect backdrop to the large walk-in shower and freestanding tub. Large tile or panels on the floor or shower wall make for easy maintenance, which leaves more time to enjoy this private sanctuary in Galena Ohio.

Squeezing by the washer and dryer at the start and end of each day, my clients could not help but be reminded of an endless chore — laundry! Relocating the laundry facilities and designing a proper mudroom allows for a smoother, stress-free transition when the family enters and exits their home.

This modern, one of a kind bathroom makes the best of the space small available. The shower itself features the top of the line Delta Trinsic 17 Series hand held shower and the Kohler Watertile flush mounted Rainhead as well as two niche shelves and a grab bar. The shower is set with a zero-entry, flush transition from the main bath and sports a bar drain to avoid under foot pooling with full height glass doors. Outside of the shower, the main attraction is the ultra-modern wall mounted Kohler commode with touchscreen controls and hidden tank. All of the details perfectly fit in this high-contrast but low-stress washroom, it truly is a dream of a small bathroom!

The couple who embarked on this Lake Zurich Illinois home renovation spent years planning a move from Virginia to the rolling hills of Northern Illinois when their first grandchild was born. Wanting to be closer to their grown children so they could enjoy their new role, they first embarked upon finding the right realtor and the right home. They settled on the “perfect” home; perfect that is to transform.
The seriously outdated 1,800 square foot ranch had a closed outdated kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a full basement and 2 baths. Although it had “good bones”, it was straight out of a builder’s catalog with wall to wall carpet, standard tile and honey oak everywhere you looked. But this couple had big plans for this home.
In tandem with their home purchase, they began the search for the just the right renovation company. The team they chose needed to be cohesive, as the whole house renovation would be designed hundreds of miles from their home several states away. She found Advance Design Studio, Ltd. online, and was quickly enamored by the team and by Common Sense Remodeling, simply by studying the website. Her decision to choose Advance Design to partner on this complete ranch renovation was confirmed quickly upon her first face to face meeting with owner Todd Jurs, and later by Advance’s designer, Nicole Ryan.
Three bedrooms were converted into a one master suite with ample bath and walk in closet, laundry, and a 2nd multi-purpose room designed for movies and entertainment, a home office, and a guest room all in one. A doorway leading to the garage was reconfigured to create a foyer area, and allowed for a better flow to an open modern kitchen complete with a large island for cooking and entertaining, which included a wide bench seat overlooking the back yard and opening onto an eating area flanked with a fireplace and TV.
The piece de resistance culminated with 3 walls of full glass anchored by a striking fireplace in the new four season’s room where the homeowners enjoy coffee every morning while gazing at the current day’s mid-western landscape. The open floorplan encourages living in “one space” throughout the day.
Ryan worked with the couple remotely, exchanging 3D color renderings and floorplans with detailed budget updates until the project took on the very image they had envisioned. “Working with them was a change from our normal meeting process since they were literally in a different state. We conducted meetings by phone, while reviewing materials and drawings via computer. It was a fun process that necessitated lots of detail and careful coordination, but we made it happen and the process was as smooth as if they were right here like normal”, says Nicole. During a stressful time planning their move, the constant interaction with Nicole assured the couple that all was being addressed by the Advance team and they could relax and focus on other important things (like moving cross country).
The new master bath incorporated heated flooring, a walk in shower with seating and custom shower niches, and an elegant double sink vanity with ample space for two. “The layout of each of the rooms is exactly what I envisioned,” the client said. “Advance’s attention to details such as light switch placement, electrical outlets, and many other minute details you wouldn’t even think of was the icing on the cake. If I didn’t think of it first, they certainly did,” said the happy homeowner. Small details like the crown molding, the custom designed fireplace mantle, the under-cabinet lighting and etched door glass, and even subtle rhinestones shimmering like delicate jewelry in the tile backsplash brought the whole project together. The clients were extremely happy with the way the Advance team made sure these small things were executed perfectly.
“It’s just gorgeous,” they said at a celebratory event in their home hosted shortly after completion for the entire Advance Design team that made it happen. “The entire crew at Advance Design was a pleasure to work with. We couldn’t have done this with a lesser team,” they concluded.

The design team at HDR Remodeling collaborated with the client to create this geometric tile design. Please note the two backsplash windows flanking the cooktop. The separate oven allows for an induction cooktop above the pot and pan drawers below. The clean lines of the hood compliment the pattern in the backsplash.

Giving all other items in the laundry area a designated home left this homeowner a great place to fold laundry. Don't you love the folding tray that came with their washer and dryer? Room Redefined decluttered the space, and did a lot of space planning to make sure it had good flow for all of the functions. Intentional use of organization products, including shelf-dividers, shelf-labels, colorful bins, wall organization to take advantage of vertical space, and cubby storage maximize functionality. We supported the process through removal of unwanted items, product sourcing and installation. We continue to work with this family to maintain the space as their needs change over time. Working with a professional organizer for your home organization projects ensures a great outcome and removes the stress!

One morning, you’re starting your day as you normally would. Then you take a look at your closet, and it’s all the same.
There’s not much room for anything, and everything is a mess.
That was the daily routine for Mary, one of our recent Baton Rouge clients, until she decided she had finally had enough.
Little to No Closet Space: The Start of a Solution
Mary and her family moved into their new home in 2020, and they quickly realized they had had little to no closet space. Knowing that she needed that space for herself, she was inspired and wanted to see if she could turn a 10x12 office in her home into a closet.
Mary took charge and found us through an online search for closet installations, and she decided to give us a call. After speaking with our expert designer Felicity and sharing some photos she saw online, she decided to trust us with her closet installation.
“We had an instant connection and relationship,” Mary said. “Felicity was so down-to-earth and personable that a relationship was built immediately.”
Get the Ball Rolling: Designing and Constructing the Closet
Mary thought that the process was beautiful and simple. Felicity provided a 3D interactive design of the project and based it on Mary’s needs.
Mary said, “It felt like she was trying to accommodate my needs by using her knowledge of what I would need in my closet. It felt very natural.”
Felicity had a contractor she worked with closely. Together, they handled the project in two days, even with the crown molding that needed to be removed for the projected closet cabinets to reach the ceiling.
Once we finished, Mary was amazed at how quickly we finished the closet.
The Final Product: When Fashion and Functionality Work Together
“I love how everything has a place, is very organized, and can all be seen very quickly,” Mary said. Along with the closet’s functionality, Mary loves that her closet looks like a boutique showroom.
We were able to bring fashion and functionality to this closet with:
Showroom lights; makes it look more like a boutique rather than a closet
Hidden hamper
Separate space to see her purses and shoes
Jewelry drawer
Display cabinet for belts and scarves
Small closet for her four-year-old daughter to put her items in
See for yourself!
Saving Time and Stress Through The Day
Now Mary has cut down on both her time and wardrobe. Thanks to her new closet, finding an outfit each day is “quick and easy.”
She even entertains guests in her closet space, thanks to the showroom look we gave her closet.
What makes it better? The small closet inside helps her daughter find her things and keep organized.
Let Us Make Your Dreams Come True
Our work has Mary making plans to work with us for the future. She is already planning to convert another room into a closet, design her pantry, and renovate her garage.
Let us help you achieve your dream pantry, laundry room, or even a closet space like Mary’s!

OAK Clear Herringbone 90°Oak plank in 3-layer construction with small bevel on all sides and approx. 4 mm top layer, with approx. 4 mm backing in the same wood and middle layer conifer. Tongue and groove on all sides for easy installation. The planks are free from knots and sapwood but have some curled spots. Small knots and slight stress are cracks possible.

When Amy and Brandon, hip 30 year old attorneys decided to look for a home with better outdoor living space, closer to restaurants and night spots, their search landed them on a house with the perfect outdoor oasis. Unfortunately, it came with an interior that was a mish mash of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s design. Having already taken on a DIY remodel on their own, they weren’t interested in going through the stress and frustration of one again. They were resolute on hiring an expert designer and contractor to renovate their new home. The completed renovation features sleek black cabinetry, rich ebony floors, bold geometric tile in the bath, gold hardware and lighting that together, create a fresh and modern take on traditional style.
Thoughtfully designed cabinetry packs this modest sized kitchen with more cabinetry & features than some kitchens twice it’s size, including two spacious islands.
Choosing not to use upper cabinets on one wall was a design choice that allowed us to feature an expanse of pure white quartz as the backdrop for the kitchens curvy hood and spikey gold sconces.
A mix of high end furniture, finishes and lighting all came together to create just the right mix to lend a 21st century vibe to this quaint traditional home.
