The renovation of Maison Gray was an ambitious project, marked by technical challenges to transform this 1960s residence into a modern and bright living space. Due to urban planning constraints, it was impossible to completely demolish the house. Therefore, a progressive approach was adopted, methodically deconstructing and rebuilding each wall while keeping the roof in place with temporary supports. This required rigorous coordination between the demolition and construction teams, who worked in parallel to successfully complete the large-scale project. Major structural and framing work allowed for the roof slopes to be redefined and the creation of a double-height space, a central feature of the house's new architecture. Despite the complexity of the project, the work was completed in a relatively short period, an impressive achievement for such a large-scale transformation. Thanks to meticulous execution, the house was practically rebuilt from scratch, with a mezzanine and new spaces arranged in half-levels within a generous volume. The tall arch on the façade marks the vaulted entrance leading to an open living space in double height, naturally lit by a skylight and large windows opening to the garden. Achieving these elements and alignments required great precision, with every architectural detail, from curves to openings, carefully executed to create a fluid and harmonious flow. Sangaré Studio designed the interior with natural materials in soft tones, creating intimate and fluid spaces. camilleriparismode projects and design team were approached to rethink a previously unused double height room in a wonderful villa. the lower part of the room was planned as a sitting and dining area, the sub level above as a tv den and games room. as the occupants enjoy their time together as a family, as well as their shared love of books, a floor-to-ceiling library was an ideal way of using and linking the large volume. the large library covers one wall of the room spilling into the den area above. it is given a sense of movement by the differing sizes of the verticals and shelves, broken up by randomly placed closed cupboards. the floating marble fireplace at the base of the library unit helps achieve a feeling of lightness despite it being a complex structure, while offering a cosy atmosphere to the family area below. the split-level den is reached via a solid oak staircase, below which is a custom made wine room. the staircase is concealed from the dining area by a high wall, painted in a bold colour on which a collection of paintings is displayed. photos by: brian grech

Saturday July 18, 10:00 to 11:30am | Dedham Lowder Brook by Keith LeBlanc and John Haven of Keith LeBlanc Landscape Architecture A series of structured gardens and terraces were designed in conjunction with a new Greek Revival home set on twelve acres within a residential neighborhood in suburban Boston. The unusual scale of the property conveys the feel of secluded New England woodland, highlighting the dramatic beauty of the existing mature trees, which were carefully cultivated and catalogued by a previous owner with ties to the Arnold Arboretum. The gardens provide spaces both grand, as in the front approach, and intimate, as the walled rear garden, and mediate between the architecture and the woodland setting. Pathways surrounded by rhododendrons and viburnums lead visitors to a hedged pool garden and orchard meadow. The result of this close collaboration among owner, architect, and landscape architect is a subtly crafted landscape at harmony with its formal and naturalistic cues. The redesign of this 1920’s duplex included both an exterior historic renovation and interior alterations in keeping with the significant value of the building’s original features. The existing tile roof was removed, and replaced allowing the structure to exist for another 100 years, while features that had been lost over time, such as the front stoop entry cover, were replaced after historic precedent research at a local level, with small additions such as a gas lantern. This sensitivity to the value of the existing building was carried through to the interior where respect to original architectural details was married with a fresh approach to material finishes.

This living room combines natural timber, soft neutral upholstery and carefully selected architectural details to create a warm and sophisticated interior. Generous glazing, a high vaulted ceiling and a freestanding wood-burning stove give the space a distinctive character, while the restrained palette of beige, cream, taupe and warm wood keeps the composition calm and cohesive. A generous U-shaped sectional sofa upholstered in light beige fabric occupies the main seating zone, with deep cushions and broad chaise sections creating an inviting arrangement for relaxation. Several large cushions in matching neutral tones soften the substantial form of the sofa, while loosely folded throws add texture and a more relaxed residential character. In front of the seating, two overlapping round coffee tables introduce a contrasting dark element, with smooth black tops set on vertically fluted cylindrical bases. The seating arrangement rests on a large woven rug with a pronounced looped texture and a subtle geometric pattern. Its warm cream and beige tones complement the light timber flooring and visually gather the sofa and coffee tables into a defined lounge area. A small stack of books on one of the tables provides a discreet everyday detail, while the dark furniture creates a clear contrast against the predominantly light interior. One of the strongest features of the room is the fireplace zone positioned along the left-hand wall. A freestanding black wood-burning stove sits on a large light-coloured hearth, with the visible flames introducing a warm glow and a lively accent to the otherwise restrained interior. Beside it, a minimalist black metal log holder displays neatly stacked firewood, while slender fireplace tools stand nearby. The tall black flue rises from the stove towards the ceiling, emphasizing the impressive height of the living room. Behind the fireplace, the wall is covered with narrow vertical white slats that create a finely textured surface and reinforce the room's vertical proportions. Above, the pitched ceiling is finished with large natural timber panels framed by visible wooden beams, bringing warmth and a subtle reference to the architecture of the house. The combination of ribbed wall cladding and exposed timber overhead creates a distinctive backdrop for the fireplace and seating area. Full-height glazing occupies much of the rear façade, opening the living room towards the garden and filling the interior with soft daylight. Sheer vertical blinds filter the light across the windows, while long taupe-grey curtains frame the glazing and add depth to the neutral palette. Mature trees, lawn and a white garden fence are visible outside, providing a natural backdrop to the warm interior. Suspended within the high ceiling volume, a simple cylindrical pendant adds a soft architectural lighting element above the seating area. Its clean white form remains deliberately understated against the timber structure and textured wall surfaces. Through the combination of the vaulted ceiling, natural wood, ribbed wall finish, sculptural coffee tables, generous sectional sofa and freestanding fireplace, the Komfoo living room achieves a comfortable and refined character that reflects the interior architecture approach of STUDIO KONDE and its work as an interior architect in Poznań.

The Marshbrook Residence is a full-scope remodel of a 6,000-square-foot home in Thousand Oaks, California, reimagined through interior architecture, landscape design, and furniture specification. The project was approached as a comprehensive residential renovation, shaping the house and grounds into a more cohesive living environment with a strong connection between architecture, landscape, and outdoor use. The design extends beyond the interior to create a fully integrated outdoor setting organized around a generous pool terrace, spa, covered cabana, dining area, and layered planting. Broad decks, stepped lawns, structured hardscape, and defined gathering spaces give the property a clear sense of order while supporting the relaxed, indoor-outdoor lifestyle central to contemporary Southern California living. Rather than treating the residence and site as separate elements, the project brings them together as a unified composition. The result is a refined residential environment shaped around openness, entertaining, and everyday use, with landscape, architecture, and furnishing working together to give the property a more complete and intentional identity.

Our clients Bill and Tammy approached us to construct a bonus room above the garage for their exercise equipment with an additional bedroom and bathroom for guests. This project has a few unique challenges including installing a 2 hour fire rated wall so that their home can be considered two separate structures for the Philomath fire marshal (so we don’t need to install a residential sprinkler system). We are also keeping their existing home operational during construction including their furnace and electrical panel which are directly underneath the new addition!

When we are ready to begin Phase 2 of the renovation, there is no doubt that we will call Micah and All Square to do the work. SLDarch: The shaded Main Entry, tucked deep into the shadows, is approached from a rising stepped garden path, leading up to a gentle, quiet water feature and custom stainless steel, glass and wood pivot entry door...open this and venture in to the Central Foyer space, shrouded by curved concrete & stainless steel structure and orienting the visitor to the central core of this curvaceous home. From this central orientation point, one begins to perceive the magic and mystery yet to be revealed in the undulating spatial volumes, spiraling out in several directions. Ahead is the kitchen and breakfast room, to the right are the Children's Bedroom Wing and the 'ocotillo stairs' to Master Bedroom upstairs. Venture left down the gentle ramp that follows along the gurgling water stream and meander past the bar and billiards, or on towards the main living room. The entire ceiling areas are a brilliant series of overlapping smoothly curved plaster and steel framed layers, separated by translucent poly-carbonate panels. This combats the intense summer heat and light, but carefully allows indirect natural daylight to gently sift through the deep interior of this unique desert home. Wandering through the organic curves of this home eventually leads you to another gentle ramp leading to the very private and secluded Meditation Room, entered through a double shoji door and sporting a supple leather floor radiating around a large circular glass Floor Window. Here is the ideal place to sit and meditate while seeming to hover over the colorful reflecting koi pool just below. The glass meditation room walls slide open, revealing a special desert garden, while at night the gurgling water reflects dancing lights up through the glass floor into this lovely Zen Zone. "Blocking the intense summer sun was a prime objective here and was accomplished by clever site orientation, massive roof overhangs, super insulated exterior walls and roof, ultra high-efficiency water cooled A/C system and ample earth contact and below grade areas." There is a shady garden path with foot bridge crossing over a natural desert wash, leading to the detached Desert Office, actually set below the xeriscape desert garden by 30" while hidden below, completely underground and naturally cooled sits another six car garage. The main residence also has a 4 car below grade garage and lovely swimming pool with party patio in the backyard. This property falls withing the City Of Scottsdale Natural Area Open Space area so special attention was required for this sensitive desert land project.
