An open house lot is like a blank canvas. When Mathew first visited the wooded lot where this home would ultimately be built, the landscape spoke to him clearly. Standing with the homeowner, it took Mathew only twenty minutes to produce an initial color sketch that captured his vision - a long, circular driveway and a home with many gables set at a picturesque angle that complemented the contours of the lot perfectly. The interior was designed using a modern mix of architectural styles – a dash of craftsman combined with some colonial elements – to create a sophisticated yet truly comfortable home that would never look or feel ostentatious. Features include a bright, open study off the entry. This office space is flanked on two sides by walls of expansive windows and provides a view out to the driveway and the woods beyond. There is also a contemporary, two-story great room with a see-through fireplace. This space is the heart of the home and provides a gracious transition, through two sets of double French doors, to a four-season porch located in the landscape of the rear yard. Inspiration for a country home office remodel in Dallas

A gorgeously detailed and endlessly elegantly workspace that drips with gilded finishes while silky soft colors rise up in art and accents like a summer sunrise. A shagreen embossed desk sits top a scalloped cowhide rug looking out over the pool in the outdoor space. Built in shelves and cabinets provide storage space and display art, plants and treasures. A settee in the corner is the first focal point as you enter the room, an inviting spot to take a call, enjoy a break with a book or curl up with a pet.

This is a charming study/retreat with a decidedly feminine feel. The client asked for a "pretty" room and here is the result. It is lovely. The fabulous black and white toile pattern was our design inspiration. We layered the pattern on the walls, window and desk chair to create a dramatic shell. We then introduced a soft blue etagere for color and interest. The chair and 1/2 is a perfect place to curl up with a book, while the desk offers functionality, but is softened by the tufted chair. A butler’s pantry off of the dining area leads to the kitchen and breakfast area. The well-appointed kitchen features quartz countertops with tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, attractive cabinetry and a spacious pantry. The sunny breakfast area provides access to the deck and back yard via sliding glass doors. The great room is open to the breakfast area and kitchen and includes a gas fireplace featuring stone surround and shiplap detail. Also on the 1st floor is a study with coffered ceiling. The 2nd floor boasts a spacious raised rec room and a convenient laundry room in addition to 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The owner’s suite with tray ceiling in the bedroom, includes a private bathroom with tray ceiling, quartz vanity tops, a freestanding tub, and a 5’ tile shower.

While the California Case Study-inspired architecture was an interesting break from 1950’s boxes, its extensive single-pane glass, internal roof drains, and slab construction were leading to structural deterioration through condensation and leaks, and a massive carbon footprint. The renovation took the form of slight plan adjustments–giving the kitchen more space, combining two entry doors into one entry space, adjusting the bedroom-bathroom area–and reworking the roof. We added a raised portion to carry ducts for conditioning and ventilation, which was also an opportunity to create spatial interest and bring in light from above, and we re-sloped the roof to drain to the perimeter instead of the middle of the house. Carbon-sequestering wood fiberboard insulation was added to the walls, and the windows were replaced with triple-glazed units. With new heat pump heating, cooling, and water heating, the operational carbon footprint was reduced by 93%.

Designed with a nod to the Modern Movement of architectural styles, The Newcastle's exterior elements include horizontal Nichiha vintage wood cedar planks offset by Modera tailored and stacked ledgestone and a welcoming path of deep gray slate pavers. The horizontal grid lines in the home's 10' black iron double doors are mimicked throughout the home and add a classic modern feel to the windows, sliding glass doors, and an all-glass, temperature-controlled wine room. The Newcastle's great room is open to the chef's kitchen that features two separate quartzite islands, one with a beveled waterfall edge that's perfect for either casual dining or entertaining. Just off the kitchen, the wine room with a backlit blue-agate accent wall leads you into the home's bonus room, complete with a beverage refrigerator, humidor, and access to a private courtyard. The great room overlooks the spacious outdoor living areas which feature your own putting green, fire pit, pool and plenty of space for lounging, cooking and dining. The master suite has a volume ceiling, oversized windows overlooking the pool and lake with a private entrance to the rear lanai. The master bath features a recessed tub, a glass-enclosed shower that is centered within the room and surrounded by walls of glass, two separate vanities, water closets, and elegant courtyards, and of course spectacular closets. Additional living spaces inside this 4,806 SF home include a separate Casita, two additional en-suite guest rooms, study, walk-in pantry, laundry room, and 4-car split garage.
