With coveted NYC river and cityscape views, this dramatic apartment’s monochromatic neutral color scheme allows the outdoors to take center stage. For a study adjoining the primary bedroom, white oak flooring establishes the theme. Furnishings are a nubby cream weave, and window coverings are full-height semi-sheers in the same tones. Adding texture and interest are 3-dimensional throw pillows and a beige and cream designer throw. The coffee table’s pop of walnut adds contrast.
But the star here is the built-in desk and bookcase, rendered in natural rift cut white oak. Drawers are flat slab with sleek bronze bar pulls. The protruding 2” thick desk top aligns with the 2” wood counters atop the drawers, providing room for a monitor and TV. Shelves and stiles are also 2″ thick, lending substance and continuity to the design. Recessed LED light strips highlight the decorative accessories.
Leading to the bedroom is a floor-to-ceiling pocket door and tall storage cabinet with doors, both in the same rift cut white oak. They frame a view of the bed, whose platform and headboard repeat the soothing material choice. The headboard boasts integrated lighting, outlets with USB ports, and attached nightstand drawers that float above the floor.

The owners of this 1941 cottage, located in the bucolic village of Annisquam, wanted to modernize the home without sacrificing its earthy wood and stone feel. Recognizing that the house had “good bones” and loads of charm, SV Design proposed exterior and interior modifications to improve functionality, and bring the home in line with the owners’ lifestyle. The design vision that evolved was a balance of modern and traditional – a study in contrasts.
Prior to renovation, the dining and breakfast rooms were cut off from one another as well as from the kitchen’s preparation area. SV's architectural team developed a plan to rebuild a new kitchen/dining area within the same footprint. Now the space extends from the dining room, through the spacious and light-filled kitchen with eat-in nook, out to a peaceful and secluded patio.
Interior renovations also included a new stair and balustrade at the entry; a new bathroom, office, and closet for the master suite; and renovations to bathrooms and the family room. The interior color palette was lightened and refreshed throughout. Working in close collaboration with the homeowners, new lighting and plumbing fixtures were selected to add modern accents to the home's traditional charm.

The three-bedroom Belita offers a study, formal dining room and a gourmet-inspired kitchen with a freestanding island breakfast bar and adjoining café, home office and walk-in pantry. Sliding glass doors in the living room and café combine indoor-and-outdoor spaces and showcase views of the lakefront neighborhood, as well as its alfresco living area and fire bowl-flanked pool and spa.
Two guest suites are located on the second floor, which also has a loft and wet bar, and double doors leading to a balcony.
The Belita has 3,738 square feet of living space and 5,308 total square feet, including covered living areas, an attached two-car garage and an additional detached single-car garage.

This second floor office was converted into a Kids Study Room - complete with built in bookshelves and desks, custom painted antique mirrors, and a huge comfy sectional for lounging. We started with an existing rug and built a rich color palette from it with terra-cotta and golds adding warm color to the space. Layered in lots of patterned throw pillows and custom desk cushions to add fun and texture. We even added a wall painted with dry erase paint for homework help!

My client for this project was a builder/ developer. He had purchased a flat two acre parcel with vineyards that was within easy walking distance of downtown St. Helena. He planned to “build for sale” a three bedroom home with a separate one bedroom guest house, a pool and a pool house. He wanted a modern type farmhouse design that opened up to the site and to the views of the hills beyond and to keep as much of the vineyards as possible. The house was designed with a central Great Room consisting of a kitchen area, a dining area, and a living area all under one roof with a central linear cupola to bring natural light into the middle of the room. One approaches the entrance to the home through a small garden with water features on both sides of a path that leads to a covered entry porch and the front door. The entry hall runs the length of the Great Room and serves as both a link to the bedroom wings, the garage, the laundry room and a small study. The entry hall also serves as an art gallery for the future owner. An interstitial space between the entry hall and the Great Room contains a pantry, a wine room, an entry closet, an electrical room and a powder room. A large deep porch on the pool/garden side of the house extends most of the length of the Great Room with a small breakfast Room at one end that opens both to the kitchen and to this porch. The Great Room and porch open up to a swimming pool that is on on axis with the front door.
The main house has two wings. One wing contains the master bedroom suite with a walk in closet and a bathroom with soaking tub in a bay window and separate toilet room and shower. The other wing at the opposite end of the househas two children’s bedrooms each with their own bathroom a small play room serving both bedrooms. A rear hallway serves the children’s wing, a Laundry Room and a Study, the garage and a stair to an Au Pair unit above the garage.
A separate small one bedroom guest house has a small living room, a kitchen, a toilet room to serve the pool and a small covered porch. The bedroom is ensuite with a full bath. This guest house faces the side of the pool and serves to provide privacy and block views ofthe neighbors to the east. A Pool house at the far end of the pool on the main axis of the house has a covered sitting area with a pizza oven, a bar area and a small bathroom. Vineyards were saved on all sides of the house to help provide a private enclave within the vines.
The exterior of the house has simple gable roofs over the major rooms of the house with sloping ceilings and large wooden trusses in the Great Room and plaster sloping ceilings in the bedrooms. The exterior siding through out is painted board and batten siding similar to farmhouses of other older homes in the area.

Two islands are styled identically, but have totally different functions. One island is strictly for food prep and cooking, the second serves as a homework station as well as an entertainment center. The Sub-Zero wine storage and beverage refrigerator are easily accessible and deep drawer cabinets hold additional libations. Details such as the dark cocoa bean accents, leg turning style, and leaded mirrors unify the large space. The light “cloud” allows a continuous view of the entire room.

Winner of 2002 Star Awards of Texas Home Builders Association for Best Product Design and Best Interior Merchandizing. The adobe and limestone exterior of this custom $1.4M Canyon creek Homes showplace combines elements of Spanish and Texas style architecture, with the theme continued as you step inside this lovely hill-country hacienda. This two story, five bedrooms, four baths, office/study, spacious living area which opens to the formal dining/kitchen area. The homeowners desired a home to complement their casual, outdoorsy lifestyle-exceeding their expectations, this 6000 sq.ft. rustic masterpiece maintains the cozy, homey atmosphere required by this active family. Through the magnificent custom-made, Mexican-imported wrought iron door, you enter a grandiose foyer with stained oak floors and a faux bronze inlay set in the arched ceiling. Also imported are the unique light fixtures and wooden furniture sprinkled throughout. The first-floor master suite features an over sized Jacuzzi tub overlooking a private courtyard, complete with a trickling waterfall and soothing rock garden. Stained oak and earth-toned cool stone floors complement the décor of the formal living and dining area. A majestic limestone fireplace, flanked by a built-in entertainment center and bookshelves, is the focal point of this spacious area, while two floor-to-ceiling arched windows view the colorful pool scape. The attention to detail makes this home stand out, from the wooden tresses built in to the cathedral ceilings, to the mosaic counters and backsplashes in the bathrooms. Stainless steel appliances in the open kitchen coordinate with the granite counter tops and wood cabinets - creating an inviting space for family gatherings. Just off the kitchen is a cozy breakfast nook and family room, with French doors leading to the covered patio, pool and exercise room. A curved, wrought iron staircase leads to three more bedrooms upstairs, with a landing that overlooks the formal living area. From the vantage point, you can get a better look at the animal trophies and custom iron sconces hung on thick, adobe pillars. This "uniquely Texas" home does a fabulous job of matching the active and down to-earth personality of the family that resides here.

To the manor born… or at least it will feel like it in this elegant yet easygoing French Country home designed by Visbeen Architects with a busy family who wants the best of the past and the present in mind. Drawn from both French and English traditional architecture, this two-story 5,463-square-foot home is a pleasing and timeless blend of two perennially popular styles.
Driving up the circular driveway, the home’s front façade impresses with its distinctive details, including a covered porch, iron and stone accents, a roofline with multiple peaks, large windows and its central turret capping two bay windows. The back is no less eye-catching, with a series of large central windows on all three floors overlooking the backyard, two private balconies and both a covered second-floor screen porch and an open-air main-level patio perfect for al fresco entertaining.
There’s magic on the inside too. The expansive 2,900-square-foot main level revolves around a welcoming two-story foyer with a grand curved staircase that leads into the rest of the luxurious yet not excessive floor plan. Highlights of the public spaces on the left include a spacious two-story light-filled living room with a wall of windows overlooking the backyard and a fireplace, an adjacent dining room perfect for entertaining with its own deck, and a open-plan kitchen with central island, convenient home management area and walk-in pantry. A nearby screened porch is the perfect place for enjoying outdoors meals bug-free. Private rooms are concentrated on the first-floor’s right side, with a secluded master suite that includes spa-like bath with his and her vanities and a large tub as well as a private balcony, large walk-in closet and secluded nearby study/office.
Upstairs, another 1,100 square feet of living space is designed with family living in mind, including two bedrooms, each with private bath and large closet, and a convenient kids study with peaked ceiling overlooking the street. The central circular staircase leads to another 1,800 square-feet in the lower level, with a large family room with kitchen /bar, a guest bedroom suite, a handy exercise area and access to a nearby covered patio.

This Baton Rouge home, in The Settlement at Willow Grove, has a style inspired by a California Coastal vocabulary. It is a 2-story with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a powder room. The square footage for the conditioned spaces is 4,340 sq ft and the total under roof is 5,343 sq ft. It is designed with the main living spaces having views and access to a comfortable side porch, patio and pool. The exterior style is cleverly woven into the interior design with architectural detailing and choices in finishes, fixtures and furnishings.
As you enter the home through a steel and glass door unit, the coffered ceiling foyer opens to a stair and then leads you down a hallway with white oak beams that becomes the main circulation spine to most of the first-floor spaces in the house. One of those unique spaces is the wet bar that is integrated into a space below the stairs in such a way that the steps are expressed in the ceiling design.
The kitchen, dining and living room form a great room with each space defined by white oak beams supported by corbelled pilasters. White oak accents are implemented throughout this area in cabinetry and in floating shelves on one entire wall in the living room. The kitchen features a large island and provides serving access to the side porch through counter height sliding window units. Access is also provided to a spacious butler pantry behind the kitchen.
Along the main hallway, one can access the garage, a drop off area and the laundry room. Further down around the corner you’ll find the master suite with a beautifully appointed bathroom featuring a footed tub as the focal point with views through a large window to a small, landscaped area. The his and her closet is designed for each’s needs with an island.
Upstairs you’ll find a large landing that can also serve as an exercise area and then find 2 more bedrooms, which share a bathroom. One of the bedrooms serves as a study but can also become a bedroom when needed with a murphy bed. This study/bedroom cantilevers off the corner of the house, providing spectacular views through a spray of windows to a community park down the street. A large playroom accessed of the landing is provided for family fun.
