Once home to antiquarian Horace Walpole, ‘Heckfield Place’ has been judiciously re-crafted into an ‘effortlessly stylish' countryside hotel with beautiful bedrooms, as well as two restaurants, a private cinema, Little Bothy spa, wine cellar, gardens and Home Farm, centred on sustainability and biodynamic farming principles. Spratley & Partners completed the dramatic transformation of the 430-acre site in Hampshire into the UK’s most eagerly anticipated, luxury hotel in 2018, after a significant programme of restoration works which began in 2009 for private investment company, Morningside Group. Later, modern additions to the site, which was being used as a conference centre and wedding venue, were largely unsympathetic and not in-keeping with the original form and layout; the house was extended in the 1980s with a block of bedrooms and conference facilities which were small, basic and required substantial upgrading. The rooms in the listed building had also been subdivided, creating cramped spaces and disrupting the historical plan of the house. After years of careful restoration and collaboration, this elegant, Grade II listed Georgian house and estate has been brought back to life and sensitively woven into its secluded landscape surroundings.

Having a small child, loving to entertain and looking to declutter and kid-proof the gathering spaces of their home in the quaint village of Rockville Centre, Long Island, a stone’s throw from Manhattan, our client’s main objective was to have their living room and den transformed with a family friendly home makeover with mid-century modern tones boasting a formal, yet relaxed spirit Stepping into the home we found their living room and den both architecturally well appointed yet in need of modern transitional furniture pieces and the pops of color our clients admired, as there was a substantial amount of cool, cold grays in the rooms. Decor Aid designer Vivian C. approached the design and placement of the pieces sourced to be kid-friendly while remaining sophisticated and practical for entertaining. “We played off of the clients love for blush pinks, mid-century modern and turquoise. We played with the use of gold and silver metals to mix it up.” In the living room, we used the prominent bay window and its illuminating natural light as the main architectural focal point, while the fireplace and mantels soft white tone helped inform the minimalist color palette for which we styled the room around. To add warmth to the living room we played off of the clients love for blush pinks and turquoise while elevating the room with flashes of gold and silver metallic pieces. For a sense of play and to tie the space together we punctuated the kid-friendly living room with an eclectic juxtaposition of colors and materials, from a beautifully patchworked geometric cowhide rug from All Modern, to a whimsical mirror placed over an unexpected, bold geometric credenza, to the blush velvet barrel chair and abstract blue watercolor pillows. “When sourcing furniture and objects, we chose items that had rounded edges and were shatter proof as it was vital to keep each room’s decor childproof.” Vivian ads. Their vision for the den remained chic, with comfort and practical functionality key to create an area for the young family to come together. For the den, our main challenge was working around the pre-existing dark gray sectional sofa. To combat its chunkiness, we played off of the hues in the cubist framed prints placed above and focused on blue and orange accents which complement and play off of each other well. We selected orange storage ottomans in easy to clean, kid-friendly leather to maximize space and functionality. To personalize the appeal of the den we included black and white framed family photos. In the end, the result created a fun, relaxed space where our clients can enjoy family moments or watch a game while taking in the scenic view of their backyard. For harmony between the rooms, the overall tone for each room is mid-century modern meets bold, yet classic contemporary through the use of mixed materials and fabrications including marble, stone, metals and plush velvet, creating a cozy yet sophisticated enough atmosphere for entertaining family and friends and raising a young children. “The result od this family friendly room was really fantastic! This full kitchen view shows the custom remodel created within a complete Coconut Grove home transformation. A substantial island, integrated cabinetry, upgraded appliances, black pendants, and a gold hexagonal backsplash give the kitchen practical scale and refined contrast while connecting it to the family room and the home’s eclectic design story.

The heart of this project. We took a cramped narrow hallway and opened it right up to create a generous upper landing in what is otherwise a very compact inner city home. Custom brass spindles, custom curved railing with integrated curved hardwood shoe. Stair was rebuilt in place.

G&W Electric has produced high-voltage electrical equipment for over 50 years. Throughout that time, they have continually seen substantial expansion of product lines and increases in overall product volume, making the desire for a renovation all the more necessary. With help from Epstein, their 370,000-square-foot building in Bolingbrook, Illinois was transformed into a LEED manufacturing facility that meets the company's immediate and future space needs.

The project involved substantial alterations and additions to an existing Split Level style residence. The additions included an inviting Front Portico, sizeable Kitchen, Great Room, and rear Porch on the main floor, and a Master Suite on the upper level. As part of the renovation the Entrance Hall was made into an two-storey space, and various rooms were reconfigured on the main floor to create a Study Room for the family’s two sons, a large Walk-in Pantry, and a Mud Room. Important prerequisites established by the Clients were that we design comfortable, livable rooms, avoid superfluous spaces, and make sure that the Great Room was filled with natural light. Finally, a cozy Porch to enjoy “cafecitos” and “la tertulia” were a must. The construction was completed in nine months, and the project is a success by every metric of the Clients’ goals for their home transformation.

Inspiration for a timeless kids' blue floor bathroom remodel in DC Metro with white walls and a pedestal sink

This was an old home in dreadful condition. The current owners purchased with a view to achieving a major transformation from floor to roof. The builder used his creative flair to decide how best to open up the space and convert poorly used rooms to useful areas. Walls were removed and the HVAC transfered to the attic. Every door, and window was replaced and a fabuloius kichen installed in the main open plan living area. The home is now occupied by a young family and the value substantially increased.

The Abraham Knowlton House (c. 1725) was nearly demolished to make room for the expansion of a nearby commercial building. Thankfully, this historic home was saved from that fate after surviving a long, drawn out battle. When we began the project, the building was in a lamentable state of disrepair due to long-term neglect. Before we could begin on the restoration and renovation of the house proper, we needed to raise the entire structure in order to repair and fortify the foundation. The design project was substantial, involving the transformation of this historic house into beautiful and yet highly functional condominiums. The final design brought this home back to its original, stately appearance while giving it a new lease on life as a home for multiple families. Winner, 2003 Mary P. Small houses don't leave anywhere to hide. How close can the vanity be to the door, how close can the door be to the gambrel roof line above without being an impediment when it opens. In both bathrooms we chose to carry the gambrel roof line down plumb to allow the wainscot to wrap around it.

A substantial renovation and expansion of an existing bungalow in Calgary's Lakeview neighbourhood. During early planning, the project team evaluated renovation against demolition and new construction. The final approach retained the original footprint and significant portions of the existing main-floor framing while adding new foundations, an attached garage and a second storey. The result is an extensive architectural transformation of the existing home rather than a conventional cosmetic renovation. This beautiful main floor transformation included custom millwork with a mix of white and oak shaker style door fronts, brass handles and Blum soft close hardware. the countertops are Silestone quartz with mitered edges to give them a more substantial look and feel. Wolf appliance package, Timeless oak engineered hardwood floors throughout. All new baseboards, casings and crown moldings into the coffered ceiling living room space and new Benjamin Moore paint throughout the space along with lighting in the ceilings, cabinetry undercabinet task lighting, new pendants and fixtures added much needed brightness to the space.
