AquaTerra took advantage of every inch this backyard offered and created a minimalist zero edge artistic pool environment. The backyard includes a zero-edge finished in glass tile, spa, water lounge, multiple benches, ipe decks, automated linear fire feature, water feature wall, hand sanded leuders limestone decking, LED lighting, landscaping, and landscape lighting. The surge basin is cohesively constructed with the pool structure and is located under the lower ipe deck in front of the linear fire feature. If you notice the spa wall is the same level as the perimeter zero edge beams, when in spa mode the entire pool automatically lowers 2.5” into the surge basin. In addition, if the kids want to have fun in the pool, with one touch of a button the entire body of water lowers 2.5” to decrease water loss and bather splash out. We were approached by Vertical Construction Group to help a client bring their 1906 craftsman into the 21st century. The original home had many redeeming qualities that were unfortunately compromised by an early 2000’s renovation. This left the new homeowners with awkward and unusable spaces. After studying numerous space plans and roofline modifications, we were able to create quality interior and exterior spaces that reflected our client’s needs and design sensibilities. The resulting master suite, living space, roof deck(s) and re-invented kitchen are great examples of a successful collaboration between homeowner and design and build teams.

While constructing a new building on famous 6th Street (formerly Pecan Street) in downtown Austin Texas, an advertising firm decided to transplant an historic pecan tree to the back of the lot rather than cut it down. Unfortunately, the transplant was not successful so the tree was milled into natural edge slabs that were then used to create this one-of-a-kind table. The shape of the pedestals in the base of the table works very nicely with the organic curves in the top's outside edges. This house is located in the Grant Park Historic District of the City of Atlanta, Georgia. Nearly all historic fabric behind front & side exterior faces had been lost to structural failure prior to this re-design. Many window units were preserved & repaired. Entire interior was rebuilt, new masonry fireplace & chimney were built, and a substantial addition was constructed onto the rear to allow a skyline view of downtown Atlanta. Geometric theme of the design involved a segmental arch repeated throughout the design, both in plan and in various elevations and details. Beveled pine siding, with a 6" horizontal lap matched the original. Wood trim, paint grade, was used to match the basic trim of the original Folk Victorian construction that would have housed a successful working middle class family when the original home was built. Our discerning client wanted to completely renovate their Kosher Kitchen in the heart of Great Neck Village but at the same time retain the exact foot print as their old kitchen and also to keep all the entry points in to this space. After applying and successfully gaining the approval of the Building Dept. We embarked on the design process in which we turn to our Kitchen Distributors A-Direct for design guidance. As always Ted was a great asset and our client were very excited to finalize their new layout and to begin the construction. The clients bought a new construction house in Bay Head, NJ with an architectural style that was very traditional and quite formal, not beachy. For our design process I created the story that the house was owned by a successful ship captain who had traveled the world and brought back furniture and artifacts for his home. The furniture choices were mainly based on English style pieces and then we incorporated a lot of accessories from Asia and Africa. The only nod we really made to “beachy” style was to do some art with beach scenes and/or bathing beauties (original painting in the study) (vintage series of black and white photos of 1940’s bathing scenes, not shown) ,the pillow fabric in the family room has pictures of fish on it , the wallpaper in the study is actually sand dollars and we did a seagull wallpaper in the downstairs bath (not shown).

This is a new construction built by Lowell Management. Todd Cauffman was the architect. The homeowners were building their last home and wanted to integrate different elements from the homes that they had previously lived in. This home is successful marriage of many styles and concepts. This is a prime example of premium quality craftsmanship in the landscape design/build business. By redesigning the front entrance to create a porch/landing with an additional parking court, we significantly improved the appearance and value of the property in Rye, New York. The new driveway was constructed of a porous asphalt material which improved the stormwater management adjacent to the wetland. The landscape planting featured a variety of long blooming, native flowering perennials which attract beneficial insect species. This contributes to the successful management of the landscape with sustainable organics. The custom kinetic sculpture adds a nice finishing touch. Instead of a typical evergreen hedge, native clethra was planted on the property border to define the space while contributing fragrance, grace and pollinators to what easily could have been a less active, sterile space. Heavily planted ground cover natives such as ajuga, creeping jenny, Irish moss, sweet woodruff and geraniums made the need for weeding practically obsolete. The use of ground covers as mulch was most effective for resource management.
