THEME There are two priorities in this room: Hockey (in this case, Washington Capitals hockey) and FUN. FOCUS The room is broken into two main sections (one for kids and one for adults); and divided by authentic hockey boards, complete with yellow kickplates and half-inch plexiglass. Like a true hockey arena, the room pays homage to star players with two fully autographed team jerseys preserved in cases, as well as team logos positioned throughout the room on custom-made pillows, accessories and the floor. The back half of the room is made just for kids. Swings, a dart board, a ball pit, a stage and a hidden playhouse under the stairs ensure fun for all. STORAGE A large storage unit at the rear of the room makes use of an odd-shaped nook, adds support and accommodates large shelves, toys and boxes. Storage space is cleverly placed near the ballpit, and will eventually transition into a full storage area once the pit is no longer needed. The back side of the hockey boards hold two small refrigerators (one for adults and one for kids), as well as the base for the audio system. GROWTH The front half of the room lasts as long as the family’s love for the team. The back half of the room grows with the children, and eventually will provide a useable, wide open space as well as storage. SAFETY A plexiglass wall separates the two main areas of the room, minimizing the noise created by kids playing and hockey fans cheering. It also protects the big screen TV from balls, pucks and other play objects that occasionally fly by. The ballpit door has a double safety lock to ensure supervised use.

This 1980s bathroom was originally a closet and galley shaped master bath for two. It was cramped, dark and nonfunctional for 2 people to dress in the morning. We demolished walls and fixtures to replace with a focal wall of Porcelanosa tile, laid on the vertical to mimic waves of high and low undulations. The vanity cabinets were custom made to float without base supports. Self closing glides and push open mechanisms make the cabinets highly functional. Electrical outlets are hardwired behind the drawers to conceal clutter. Undermount rectangular sinks from Kohler. REDEFINING CUSTOM THEATER SEATING The FORTUNY theater chair was created for the most luxurious home theater. It’s concept is unique in many aspects and the design combines leather upholstery, varying stitching finishes, ergonomic contours, real wood veneer and an independently controlled reclining mechanism. The chair was designed by the Mitra Theaters team as a seating solution for their exclusive high-end home theater projects. Careful attention has been paid to the overall comfort of this chair. Ergonomics have been thorougly studied during the design and development process. High quality foam with different densities in combination with zigzag seating support and webbed backrest support are used to create a comfortable and soft feel which maintains a proper balance for ones body.
 
A steel frame and mechanism ensures a smooth operation now and in the future. The independently controlled reclining mechanism allows the user to adjust the backrest independently from the footrest, giving the user full freedom and the ability to adjust the chair to a position that fits one’s body structure. The articulating headrest is a feature which ensures ultimate comfort while viewing a movie in the reclined position. It gives the proper neck support needed and guarantees the perfect viewing in relation to the film screen. The Fortuny is also available as a fixed chair and in a manually operated reclining version.

First order of business? Opening up the wall between the kitchen/living/dining areas to create a stunning open concept format. This project we recently completed in Manhattan Beach had an original floor plan with a dark, closed off kitchen. The homeowners' desire to open up the space by removing the common wall between the dining room and kitchen came with a structural challenge; we had to keep a support beam. Our Great Room feel was successful by removing the wall, but leaving just the post which we wrapped with walnut panels to match their new cabinetry. Our team also removed a section of the mirrored wall, turning it into a beautifully framed mirror piece to finish off the family's new Great Room.

In response to the dramatic, wood-clad ceiling, our team selected a suite of understated, softer elements to make this room feel cozy, including upholstered furniture and an expansive, custom designed wool rug. Because the husband is much taller than his wife, we added a layer of extra back pillows to the sofa to give her the support she needs and allow him to remove pillows as needed. Even the cocktail table has an upholstered edge and a wood center for placing a drink or serving a snack. The two low-backed chairs in front of the windows leave the sweeping view unobstructed while the side table can double as another game table.

Before, meets after! Enrique says so-long to the Victorian wrought iron guard railing in his entry, and replaced it with the Virginia Round glass railing system, with the custom option for square clamps. The visual appeal of the satin brushed stainless is a versatile design element to this foyer. With only five posts and the handrail to complete this project, the new glass railing opens a warm invitation into this lovely home. And cue that friendly pup! A unique choice here was in the design of the end cap at the bottom of the stairs. Many customers choose to cap this section off flat, but here, a curved end cap was used – slightly more decorative!
