Mirrored French doors flank the fireplace opening into small closets. The dining area design is the embodiment of leisure and modern sophistication, as the engineered hickory hardwood carries through the finished basement and ties the look together. The basement exercise room is finished off with paneled wood plank walls and home gym horsemats for the flooring. Inspiration for a contemporary outdoor patio shower remodel in New York

Desiring a “lived in” look, the homeowner selected different woods and finishes for each area of the kitchen. The perimeter cabinetry boasts knotty alder cabinets with a light glaze, which allows the character of the wood to show through. In keeping with the feeling of a kitchen put together over time, the vent hood is wrapped in stucco and finished with an old beam supported by intricate antique corbels. The island is constructed from alder, and is painted a light green with creamy accents highlighting the unique raised diamond inserts on the doors. Designed to accommodate a large family, the large island has a raised bar and seating for four. Across from the island sits the entertaining/bar area. The Bentwood cabinetry was designed by Kori Shurley of the Kitchen & Bath Cottage and has a French Country flair similar to the island, and is painted midnight black with creamy accents highlighting the raised panel inserts. This bar area boasts a wine refrigerator, as well as an appliance garage tucked into the wall and surrounded by a red bead board backsplash. Tucked behind the kitchen sits the Butler’s Pantry, which is used to house the pantry, as well as an additional refrigerator, sink and dishwasher. Classic black and white styling is prevalent throughout this home and is carried through into the kitchen with Nordic white cabinets in a simple ‘Shaker-esque’ style and a soft black island. These contrast beautifully with the rich wood floors. Glass doors in the top portion of the sink wall cabinets let the homeowner display a collection of red and white stoneware. The client used red accents throughout, including red-bound cookbooks and dish towels to add that country flavor and create a happy, playful look. The centerpiece of this kitchen is the Cottage Black Island - stout chamfered posts support a French Country shelf, open on both sides and front. A carved top valance and French Country trim around the bottom give a handcrafted look, and the bun feet are a playful addition. Many of the drawers have specific inserts calculated exactly to fit the clients various items, from placemats to knives, to spices and utensils. Reminiscent of times past, the client chose hot-rolled and waxed steel for the island top, giving it a rustic-industrial look, and setting it apart from the leathered black granite of the perimeter.
