This bright and airy kitchen used to be a dated family room covered in lots of wood. The homeowners wanted to take advantage of the rooms large size, beautiful views of the surrounding woods, and openness to the adjacent dining room. We utilized IKEA cabinets with Semi-handmade DIY shaker fronts which allowed us to have the contrast of bright white (Benjamin Moore Decorator's White) shaker style on the perimeter and a dark green island (Benjamin Moore's Jade Romanesque). This kitchen doesn't have a true pantry but now has more than enough food storage space in a series of 6 pantry depth and height cabinets next to the fridge. The center island which is HUGE, utilizes cabinets on both the front and the back creating space for less often used appliances. The counter for the island is a full Quartz slab in a marble look called Calcatta Verona. The perimeter countertops are also Quartz in a solid light grey. The brand new Marvin Contemporary Ultimate windows and doors in a black finish on both the interior and exterior. The homeowners weren't thrilled with their previous kitchen's electric range so they upgraded to a Wolf 48" dual-fuel range that has 6 burners, griddle and coordinating hood with the code required make-up air. The microwave is a super sleek drawer model which also functions as a warming drawer. Lighting abounds here with 2 clear glass pendants, 6 recessed dimmable LEDs, 2 black swing arm lights over each window, and under cabinet LEDs. Keeping with the original location of the vanity and toilet for cost savings; we modernized this bathroom and increased functionality by adding a lighted recessed medicine cabinet and a new vanity. The hydroslide shower door eliminates the obtrusive swing door and increases the doorway opening.

In this Mid-Century Modern home, the master bath was updated with a custom laminate vanity in Pionite Greige with a Suede finish with a bloom tip-on drawer and door system. The countertop is 2cm Sahara Beige quartz. The tile surrounding the vanity is WOW 2x6 Bejmat Tan tile. The shower walls are WOW 6x6 Bejmat Biscuit tile with 2x6 Bejmat tile in the niche. A Hansgrohe faucet, tub faucet, hand held shower, and slide bar in brushed nickel. A TOTO undermount sink, Moen grab bars, Robern swing door medicine cabinet and magnifying mirror, and TOTO one piece automated flushing toilet. The bedroom wall leading into the bathroom is a custom monolithic formica wall in Pumice with lateral swinging Lamp Monoflat Lin-X hinge door series. The client provided 50-year-old 3x6 red brick tile for the bathroom and 50-year-old oak bammapara parquet flooring in the bedroom. In the bedroom, two Rakks Black shelving racks and Stainless Steel Cable System were installed in the loft.

For this kitchen, designed by Peter Bittner, the client had a very clear idea of what she wanted right from the start. She did her research. The mother of a fast growing, young family, she wanted something as efficient as it was beautiful – on the simple, yet elegant side. Her requests were straightforward: white and light grey Bilotta cabinetry in a transitional style so as not to compete with the detailing inside her 1950s Tudor-style home; a heated tile floor (By Rye Ridge Tile); stainless appliances; white subway tile backsplash by Walker Zanger (again to keep it clean and not compete with its surroundings); and seating at the island for snacks and homework. The “pop” suggested by Peter was done through the satin brass hardware and lighting fixtures. The real challenge with this space was to fit as much as possible into the existing footprint which was overall on the smaller side. The solution was eliminating a doorway (with a swinging door that opened into the kitchen) and stairs from the kitchen to the basement. By moving the stairs and doorway, the usable space increased considerably. The typical working triangle became the focus for one side of the kitchen and the island overhang and seating became available on the other side. Before the remodel, there was a wall with a swinging door separating the kitchen from the rest of the house. The wall between the living room and dining room was also removed. The glass bump-out in the dining room is a new addition as well. The French doors lead out to a newly paved deck, with exquisite views of Lake Washington and the Cascade mountains.
