Inspiration for a small transitional living room library remodel in New York with gray walls

The plank tile floors are set over an infloor heating system. The tiles were laid in a herringbone pattern and dark grout was used to bring in a feeling of history to this space. Then by playing with the dividers in the built in bookcases and keeping very clean lines on the windows they style of the basement feels like a modern update on a classic style. Without a door to the bedroom, the random cutout b/w the living area & bedroom needed to be closed off. A Toile fabric covered board seals the window and becomes a memento board. Shelves were added to a recessed wall to create a bookcase & entertainment center. This home office was created from an outbuilding on the property. Seagrass wall-to-wall carpet was installed for ultimate durability and a relaxed vibe. We employed a high-low aesthetic to create a space that was unique but still within budget, utilizing the owner's Stickley desk, a custom desk chair, custom blush Roman shades, a Hudson Valley Fenwater chandelier and sconces, and multiple office items from budget sources like IKEA and The Container Store.
