Home conversions from a single-family home to a mother/daughter home may be just what your family needs to cut costs or care for an aging parent.
You must designate two distinct living areas with two separate entrances in your home for the independence and privacy of your aging parents. The majority of floor plans are not ideal for mother-daughter living, so trust the professionals at Cavalier Homes Inc. to perform a transformative mother/daughter home conversion that will give your family two separate living spaces.
Since many people are unfamiliar with the term, a mother-daughter home is simply a house with separate living spaces, such as two bathrooms, two bedrooms, two kitchens, two living rooms, etc. Even though the extended family lives under one roof, they appear to be divided between two houses. However, if one member of the family requires the assistance of another in an emergency, such as an elderly parent falling, the other family members can respond quickly.
A mother/daughter home is not the same as a duplex or a single-family home with an in-law suite. A mother/daughter conversion creates completely separate living quarters for the family. A mother-daughter home can be arranged in a variety of ways, and many different kinds of families could benefit from it.
For instance, the most typical arrangement for mother-daughter homes is for elderly parents to live with their adult child and their family. The elderly parent retains their independence and dignity in this type of mother-daughter home while also having access to a lot of assistance from their adult children. In addition, a family with a son or daughter who has recently graduated from college but isn’t quite ready to buy or rent a living space of their own would profit from a mother/daughter conversion. They receive a separate living space so they can live independently, even though they are technically still living with their parents.
No matter what your family’s particular requirements are, Cavalier Homes can make a mother/daughter conversion of your house to meet everyone’s needs and preferences. Our design experts can create two separate spaces for the two distinct personalities or families that live in them, all while maintaining the cohesion that binds the mother/daughter home together.
Your home is your calling card, and your happiness is our greatest goal, as well as our greatest pleasure. Our qualified professionals in West Islip, Long Island can help you with your mother/daughter conversion or any type of home remodeling project. Built on a steep lakeside terrain, the Tsuga residence by Appareil Architecture is an ambitious project that required meticulous planning and flawless execution. Nestled within the rugged landscapes of Brownsburg-Chatham, Tsuga elevates a complex site to offer a seamless immersion in nature. Balancing the site’s constraints with a high level of finish, every phase of the project was designed to reconcile technical challenges with precision. Modulor expertly managed all collaborators, ensuring a level of detail that defines a project of this scale.
On the exterior, the building envelope combines durability with refinement. Carefully selected natural wood cladding interacts with a perforated screen that filters light and adds depth to the façade. The integration of openings was strategically planned to maximize views while maintaining a cohesive architectural expression.
Inside, the materials and finishes reflect the same commitment to quality. Wooden paneling wraps the spaces, creating visual continuity and a warm atmosphere. The stainless steel kitchen, with its clean lines and custom design, introduces a striking contrast between modernity and natural textures. Every junction, every material transition was meticulously crafted to ensure a flawless result, with no compromises on durability or functionality.
Designed for an architectural historian and a musician and opera singer, Tsuga is the result of meticulous craftsmanship. A home built to stand the test of time, with an unwavering attention to detail.

At Morehouse Crafted Interiors, we believe the master bathroom should be a sanctuary of perfect balance and refined detail. This technical elevation of the Herring Residence Primary Suite illustrates a grand, symmetrical layout featuring dual 72-inch vanities flanking a central bathing alcove.
The design integrates high-end specifications including:
Dual Vanities: Clean-lined "CF-1 White" cabinetry paired with dramatic black countertops and chrome fixtures.
Backlit Illumination: Oversized 36" x 75" backlit mirrors that provide a soft, ambient glow against the marble-cladded walls.
The Focal Point: A 72-inch freestanding soaking tub set within a 96-inch niche, framed by gauze white drapery hung from the underside of the soffit for a soft, ethereal touch.
Architectural Lighting: Symmetrical wall sconces and a modern, sculptural pendant light that anchors the central tub area.
This elevation demonstrates our meticulous attention to vertical and horizontal alignment, ensuring every fixture is perfectly positioned to create a cohesive and tranquil environment.

fench country classical garden meets modern. These are technically two different houses that the client combined into one. VERY different styles, but well done.

This 1,400 sq. ft. studio, built in 2018 for Grammy Award–winning drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Adam Box, was one of the earliest full-scale NILES design–build projects. After years of session and touring work, Adam had a clear vision for his own creative home—a space that combined comfort, vibe, and technical precision. Our team partnered closely with him through every phase of the design and build process to bring that vision to life.
The studio features a full Control Room, a spacious Live Room, two amp isolation booths, and a large dedicated ISO booth engineered specifically for dry drum capture. Each room is fully wired for a complete live-tracking environment, enabling an entire band to plug in and record seamlessly. The Live Room is sonically open and collaborative, while the Control Room is fine-tuned for long stretches of creative focus and accurate monitoring.
Aesthetic direction played a major role in this project. Natural stonework, warm wood details, and a comfortable, lived-in feel create a distinctive character throughout the space. Adam added many of his own finishing touches, giving the studio an unmistakable personal identity that reflects his style and musical approach.
The result is a studio that delivers both atmosphere and performance—an inspiring hub for writing, tracking, mixing, and producing at the highest level.

When preparing this property for sale, our goal was the maximize the curb appeal and instant wow factor to potential buyers upon a quick walk through with a minimal budget to truly maximize a bidding war and quick sale. Our goal was to sell the property within one week and close on it within 6 weeks.
By putting in roughly $10,000 in landscaping, touch-ups, and minor upgrades into this property (and a WHOLE lot of DIY work), we were able to boost the value of the home and sold it in 3 hours on the first day we had showings (technically before it was even listed on the market), and closed on the property in 21 days. We were able to execute our exact strategy as planned...resulting in a bidding war and quick sale. The property sold for $20k over the listing price.

Bathroom – Fully Integrated Wet Room with Rubinet Fixtures | Second Floor Addition, Toronto
This bathroom was designed as a fully integrated wet room, bringing together luxury, performance, and clean architectural detailing in one cohesive space. At the heart of the design are premium Rubinet fixtures, selected for their refined finishes, durability, and precise control.
The shower experience is elevated with a rain shower head paired with a handheld shower wand, offering both spa-like comfort and everyday practicality. All fixtures are thoughtfully positioned to maintain a streamlined look while ensuring intuitive use.
The shower floor features a custom envelope tile layout, expertly cut to direct water toward a fully tiled linear drain, maintaining visual continuity while delivering proper drainage performance. A built-in tiled shower niche provides functional storage without interrupting the clean lines of the space, keeping toiletries discreet and organized.
By combining high-end fixtures, precision tile work, and a fully waterproofed layout, this wet room exemplifies Cedarstone Group Inc.’s expertise in luxury bathroom renovations and second floor additions, where technical execution and design excellence must work seamlessly together.

This new kitchen involved an extensive remodel of the existing space, with some tricky technical details. This included jacking up the concrete floor and installing brand new plumbing and electric.
As you'll see in these pictures the design evolved to create a custom, irregular triangle shaped island to allow ease of flow in the space. The end result allows the homeowners to maximize their enjoyment of their home while they cook and entertain!

The Beige Stone Villa Pool Project stands out with a balanced design approach that blends the freshness of water with natural textures. The Firuze Mix series, chosen for the pool floor, brings a lively and inviting look to the water with the harmony of turquoise and blue tones. Thanks to its Low Water Absorption, the surface ensures long-lasting use and offers high resistance to UV Resistance, chemicals, and thermal shocks. The PTV ≥ 45° Non-slip value provides safe use in and around the pool. In the transitions, Firuze Mix Outer Trim, Scoth Outer Corner, and Outer Angle Corner elements deliver both technical and aesthetic integrity, while Beige Stone Petit Carre Copings and monoblock hidden grating solutions along the pool edges regulate overflow lines, adding comfort and visual continuity. Around the pool, Beige Stone Porcelain Anti Slip Terrace Tiles complement the architecture with the warmth of beige tones.

This room encompasses one of the most technical examples of woodwork we’ve seen in a long time. Normally, to create a raised panel wainscot wall, pieces of 1x wood are cut and used to create the boxes, and panel moldings are installed inside the frames to finish off the look. This can be done by typical finish carpenters. The problem is that over time, the numerous joints separate and look bad. In the case of this project, we wanted to avoid that pitfall and do something exquisite AND long-lasting. Over several days, each section of the wall was laid out to determine the appropriate size of each panel. Electrical outlets or switch plates that weren’t centered were moved. Each panel was then specially made at the shop out of 3/4” MDF because its smooth surface is ideal for painting. The raised panels (the pieces that go into each square opening) as well as the panel mouldings (the pieces that frame out each interior panel) were fabricated off site at the shop. Between the set-up, fabrication and the installation, two skilled craftsmen required three solid weeks to make each aspect absolutely perfect. Other finishing details including using a “Back Band” moulding to cap the top of the wainscot and using matching moldings (base, window casings and crown moldings) in areas that needed it for continuity of design.
This room’s woodwork is an exquisite example of true craftsmanship. Words and pictures cannot describe the level of skill required for this project. Once everything was completed, it was sprayed with white enamel paint and wallpaper was installed above the wood wainscot to finish off the room. In a nutshell, each wall panel was constructed like a custom made high end cabinet. Literally.

"Dressing area" right outside bathroom with mirror and storage for clothing and toiletries
Example of a transitional bathroom design in Boston
Example of a transitional bathroom design in Boston

This Nashville project presented an exciting challenge with its technical requirements for soundproofing and acoustic design. Collaborating with the renowned local architecture firm Daniels and Chandler, we brought their vision to life. The client opted for a striking accent wall in the studio and a darker, contemporary aesthetic to enhance the space. We added a kitchenette featuring a vaulted ceiling, a stainless steel range hood, modern storage solutions, and custom millwork. The commercial bathroom was designed with functionality and clean lines in mind.
Additionally, we built a custom wood fence around the property for added privacy and security, complemented by expanded paved parking with new striping for guest spaces. As experienced Nashville general contractors, we specialize in custom construction, luxury renovations, and unique design-build projects that blend style and practicality. From modern kitchens to tailored outdoor solutions, our team delivers exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
