A new sunroom looks beautiful on this waterfront cottage in Fairhaven, MA!
A Boston family has spent over a decade vacationing in their quaint summer cottage on West Island but when termites destroyed the sunroom in their home away from home – they called Care Free Homes to recreate their favorite room in the house. With the damage limited to the lower portion of the room, we were able to salvage the roof and completely rebuild the remainder of the sunroom. Here is a quick look at the products we used:
Harvey Windows: Floor to ceiling Harvey Classic picture windows provide an energy efficient, panoramic view of the ocean while inviting an abundance of natural light. Harvey Awning windows were installed above the picture windows on both sides of the room to allow a cross breeze on a warm summer day. A Harvey sliding glass/screen door allows ocean air to flow into the home and gives family members easy access to the outdoors.
AZEK Decking: A super cool, curved AZEK deck in Slate Gray gives the family an extra place to relax. AZEK decking is a bug, scratch, rot, fade, and mold resistant capped polymer decking that provides a lifetime of durable, maintenance free beauty. The homeowner requested the horizontal skirt board be flush with the decking and we LOVE the look! AZEK decking is a popular choice among our coastal customers – one of our favorite deck projects is a multi-tiered deck and balcony project on this Fairhaven, MA waterfront home.

This house had a very old kitchen cabinets, old appliances, was very small with walls that was separating the kitchen and dining room and kitchen and laundry room. the sub floor was not even and was sinking down in the laundry room area from bad wood rough and termite. we opened up the 2 walls from the dining room all the way to the back wall with supporting posts and beams, we fixed and raised the damaged floor area by adding new cripple wall drilled to existing foundation and we cut and sistered the floor joists. we removed the old plaster walls and ceilings, frame out new exterior door and kitchen window. adding replumbing and rewiring the kitchen and the entire house and upgrading the panel box to 200 amp. relocating the water heater and installing new tankless water heater outside. adding new insulation on exterior walls, waterproof membrane and adding new wood siding to the exterior wall in the kitchen area. we covered the floor joists with plywood, cover the plywood with waterproof membrane, adding cement board on top and applying red guard waterproof membrane to the cement board, then we installed new tiles. we covered all walls and ceiling with drywall and paint, then we installed the kitchen cabinets, counter top, backsplash tile, appliances and light fixtures.

Eichler Orange is a stunning expression of mid-century modern architecture. The vision in modernizing this historic Eichler home with a 21st-century makeover was to honor the work of Joseph Eichler and restore it to the 1964 icon of California modernism it once was.
The clean aesthetics of this home features glass walls, post and beam, tongue and groove ceilings, and oversize porcelain tile floors throughout. The free-flowing indoor/outdoor floorplan is highlighted with a signature atrium, and all material selections were made to honor the time period. Custom cherry cabinets and warm slab walnut doors grace the interior.
This home had significant structural termite damage with three-quarters of the framing needing replacement. Additionally, the original house did not come close to meeting the current seismic codes. During reconstruction, we upgraded the post and beam structure with seismic hold-downs and concealed fasteners. The house lacked energy efficiency due to its flat roof and did not meet California’s current Title 24 energy-efficient standards. While honoring its era, this fully renovated residence is now updated with today’s energy efficiencies, including all-aluminum dual-glazed windows and doors, new spray foam insulation atop the flat roof, and tankless water heaters.
A new photovoltaic solar system was added. We abandoned the radiant floor heat and installed a new high-efficiency ductless heating and air units to each room. This increased the building’s performance and provided each room with its own thermostat and control. This system also allowed us to eliminate soffits and ductwork and maintain the exposed tongue and groove ceiling throughout the home.
The living space next to the family and dining room was repurposed to relocate the washer and dryer and allowed space to add a third bathroom. The primary bathroom was also reconfigured for a larger layout.
The sleek kitchen design includes frameless Crystal Cabinets, professional-grade Miele appliances, a large stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, and a generous Caesarstone countertop workspace.
The outdoor backyard living space captures the natural beauty of Southern California and mid-century modern features, including drought-resistant landscaping with decomposed granite planter areas and all-new concrete hardscape. A new spa was added to the existing pool, along with a new BBQ area and firepit.

2010 NARI CAPITAL COTY FINALIST AWARD, ADDITION
This home had formerly been a cross between a contemporary open interior and an ugly boxy front with various small additions. It looked uninviting in the front, appearing more like the side of a house with a portico stuck onto it, and the homeowner wanted it to be a classic warm design, incorporating a stunning entry both on the outside and inside. The project also required the creation of a guest room on the lower level of the addition and a larger master suite upstairs.
The renovation created an unusual front home addition, with a porch and master suite balcony, all with upgraded surfaces of brick, outdoor tile, vinyl no maintenance railing, hardwood flooring interiors, slate, marble and granite baths. A comfortable guest suite with full bath was added on the lower level with a large master bedroom suite upstairs complete with its own corner fireplace. The master bath included both shower and soaking Jacuzzi tub, with fine hardwood cabinetry and upgraded plumbing fixtures. Finally, the exterior was clad in textured concrete plank siding, and upgrade material that requires almost no maintenance and is moisture and termite resistant. This home now looks as dramatic on the outside as it is on the inside, and welcoming to everyone!

INSPIRATION:
Barn wood and naturally aged wood become trendy. Instead of creating a product with recuperated barn wood, we decided to design the perfect product by using new wood that is usually rejected, to create this high-end product within a production environment. We industrially designed and developed the machine utilized to create this product. We classify the wood to make sure the features and characteristics of the product are present. We have been inspired by the beauty of the marriage between the contemporary trends and the roughness of "barn wood". We created the rough chic for the kitchen.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES
This product enhances the features and characteristics of wood altered by the seasons. It is textured like barn wood. The beauty of this product lies in the details of a perfectly textured wood and the authenticity of each natural characteristic cleverly revealed such as knots, cracks, spalted wood, grub holes, termite holes and/or natural splinters. This design is available in 2 different models (slab and shaker) and six different colours including natural. This product allows designers to perfectly align the rough and the chic.
