Add to that a brand new bathroom with steam shower and back entry mud room / laundry room with custom cabinetry and double barn doors. Extensive use of shiplap, open beams, and unique accent lighting completed the look of their modern farmhouse / craftsman styled main floor. Beautiful!

Our clients originally built this home many years ago on an acreage and raised their family in it. Its a beautiful property. They were looking to preserve some of the elements they loved but update the look and feel of the home blending traditional with modern, while adding some new up-to-date features. The entire main and second floors were re-modeled. Custom master bedroom cabinetry, wood-look vinyl plank flooring, a new chef's kitchen, three updated bathrooms, and vaulted cedar ceiling are only some of the beautiful features.

They wanted to refresh the main and second levels of their early 2000 home, as well as create a more open feel to their main floor and lose some of the dated highlights like green laminate countertops, oak cabinets, flooring, and railing. A 3-way fireplace dividing the family room and dining nook was removed, and a great room concept created. Existing oak floors were sanded and refinished, the kitchen was redone with new cabinet facing, countertops, and a massive new island with additional cabinetry. A new electric fireplace was installed on the outside family room wall with a wainscoting and brick surround. Additional custom wainscoting was installed in the front entry and stairwell to the upstairs. New flooring and paint throughout, new trim, doors, and railing were also added. All three bathrooms were gutted and re-done with beautiful cabinets, counters, and tile. A custom bench with lockers and cubby storage was also created for the main floor hallway / back entry. What a transformation! A completely new and modern home inside!

When the homeowners decided it was time to update their kitchen to have it reflect more their current tastes and needs, they came to me. They wanted to have a hearth-style hood area and a mantel to display seasonal decorations. The kitchen was extended slightly to accommodate the mantel, and to add the microwave, oven, & warming drawer to the primary work side of the kitchen. A second prep sink and refrigerator drawers were added to the island. Hand selected Teak wood was used as the countertop, because of the luscious texture and durability around wet areas, more than most other woods. A very long towel bar, set to the backside of the island, allows Trisha a handy place to display tea towels. Challenging to this design was that the ceiling height is only 94”, which we couldn’t raise. The kitchen, however, feels more open due to the lightness of the cabinet color, the glass-front and open display cabinets, the different levels of cabinets, and the liberal amount of well-balanced details. The bountiful details include two cabinet colors, two counter top materials, five door styles, three glass types, three drawer styles, and four hardware styles all designed to keep the observer engaged in the space. We ? bathroom renovations! This initially drab space was so poorly laid-out that it fit only a tiny vanity for a family of four!⁠ Working in the existing footprint, and in a matter of a few weeks, we were able to design and renovate this space to accommodate a double vanity (SO important when it is the only bathroom in the house!). In addition, we snuck in a private toilet room for added functionality. Now this bath is a stunning workhorse!⁠

2011 CAPITAL COTY AWARD HONORABLE MENTION AWARD WINNER Built circa 1980, a young couple with three children originally purchased this home for their growing family. After four years of karate, soccer, piano and other activities, however, the home was becoming too small to meet their needs. Problems started upon entering the front foyer. A 25-foot long dark hallway separated the family room and the kitchen, ending in a tiny powder room stuck in the middle of the layout. The kitchen was especially isolated, a cramped L-shaped design with a box bay breakfast bump out that was literally falling apart. The new design started with the core of the problem—the maze and separation created by the long hallways. First, the 25’ load bearing wall separating the foyer from family room was totally taken out and replaced with a long supporting beam. A French door replaced a small door and window leading to a screen porch . This action allowed lots of light to get into family and foyer. Then, the powder room was removed and the partition wall between the kitchen and family room was taken down. This created a large open concept design and greatly increased the size of the kitchen. The box bay was demolished and replaced with new walls and a large window. The plumbing for main sink and dishwasher got relocated into this box bay allowing a total transformation of the space. Now there are cabinets and counters on all sides. The doorway to the dining room was reconfigured to allow a butler area on its left. While the right side was occupied with new 36” gas range top with a decorative wood hood above it. The refrigerator, microwave/oven and pantries—the space’s tall elements—occupy one wall.. A large Island with a prep sink and beverage center for the kids occupies the center of the layout. Capable of seating up to four, family and friends can now keep the cook company. A large built-in desk area lets the kids do their homework so the parents can supervise while they prepare meals. Light cabinetry with a touch of caramel glazing and exotic granite countertops by our designers contributed to this kitchen’s elegant design. The contrasting distressed island’s darker finish matches the dinette set and other furnishings. New hardwood floors were installed throughout the first floor for a seamless look, while recess, pendant and task lighting make the space even brighter. Importantly, there’s plenty of space for parents and kids to hang out together. The kitchen is truly the heart of their home.
