This amazing remodel by J.S. Brown & Co. in the River Forest neighborhood in Dublin, Ohio was designed with sunshine in mind! By removing an interior wall, the kitchen was completely opened to the adjacent sunroom for maximum views of the spectacular back yard. Also on the mission brief from the homeowners was shady place to enjoy their yard outdoors. A large roof over a paver patio was just the ticket for watching the grandkids run around in cool comfort.

Mauve was all the rage in the late 1980s when the clients of Arlene Ladegaard, founder and principal designer at Design Connections, Inc., built this custom home in the suburb of Olathe, Kan. Although a master bedroom on the first floor seemed unusual at the time, it turned out to be just the ticket for the clients. With its beautiful acreage surrounding the home, our clients had decided to stay there as they aged. Because the clients were graduates of Kansas State University where the school colors are purple and silver, they asked for purple touches in the master bathroom. Arlene and her design team complied with taupe 4”by 18” tiles placed vertically and accented by purple glass mosaics in the built-in shampoo shelves, as well as in the back splash above the Cambria Quartz countertops. A heated floor with 12” by 24” textured tiles gave an updated look to the space that would also be inviting on a cold winter morning. Design Connection Inc. provided Auto Cad drawings and elevations for design details, tile, cabinets, painting, installations and project management.

The kitchen was completely gutted, separating wall between the dining area and the kitchen was removed for a more open space concept. additional windows were opened in the exterior wall to allow great natural light to penetrate in and to add some great views of the backyard pool area. a small bar sitting area was incorporated into the cabinets area with a stone countertop waterfall finish. All the large ticket items (fridge, oven, and pantries) were relocated to a single wall at the far end of the kitchen. (A useless old furnace closet was demolished to allow a straight wall to be built). The gold fixtures are a great contrast to the clean white cabinets and countertop stone.

It is always a pleasure helping with the Hospital Home Lottery! These homes are large and allow us to be creative and try new things. This lottery home was a clean lined Scandinavian modern home. Some of our favorite features are the sculptural dining room, the basement rec area banquette, and the open concept ensuite. Our homeowner had a support wall between the old kitchen and family room and was seeking something that was more open concept. moving the kitchen to the other end of the room and putting a support beam in to open the wall up was just the ticket. New engineered wood flooring was installed, followed by custom, Benjamin Moore painted cabinetry. Beautiful quartz countertops were then added and a subway tile to complete the look. Highlights are the pullout storage, beverage centre, and large island with seating for 7. Awesome!
