In architecture, a folly is a design wherein aesthetic extravagance transcends function. In other words, they're a hoot. Land+Shelter’s pond pavilion and swing elevates the humble swimming hole to new heights of design. With this graceful arched pond swing we offer visitors the chance to choose their own level of excitement. Choose your step, then jump! In the pond pavilion, a simple steel frame and dark neutral curtains frame the landscape beyond as an ever changing painting. The compact pavilion plan combines a fireplace, water, and shade - all the essential elements of pond enjoyment in one sleek package. Swimming holes aren’t supposed to be elegant; we beg to differ! This fun pavilion and swing project offered us the chance to combine landscape and architecture in a custom steel design package truly unique to this family estate.

Featuring silhouettes that will never go out of style and a wealth of classic details that continue to transcend trends, the Kellan collection adapts timeless designs for today’s interiors. Bedecked with button tufting and nailhead trim, the sofa’s sheltering frame envelops you in indulgence, as the elegant accent seat lends French flair with its casual take on the 18th century bergère.

Patio - mid-sized traditional backyard concrete paver patio idea in DC Metro

Landscaping between house and patio. We demolished the existing rear deck, installed Trex landing and steps, stamped concrete patio, and landscaping. A Trex staircase was constructed using Trex Transcends, Spiced Rum color. A privacy lattice and fence was constructed from cedar and stained with the color stain selected by the client. We then installed approximately 445 square feet of concrete for a patio and stamped it to resemble the color variation of the three samples of stone veneer left at the residence. The blended stamp pattern is a "skin" designed to resemble the natural look of stone. Additional work included repairing and turf/grass damage resulting from the construction on site (may be seen in photographs as they were taken before new grass had grown), and select landscaping improvements around the patio.

Another big facelift. We replaced the existing wood decking and railing with low maintenance Trex Transcend decking and railing. It wasn't as simple as popping off the old decking and railing. We had a bit of framing work to do to make everything look great. We also fixed an existing under deck drainage system.

We gave this industrial time capsule an urban facelift by enhancing the 19-century architecture with a mix of metals, textures and sleek surfaces to appeal to a sassy & youthful lifestyle.
