This homeowner came to us with her basic design ready for us to execute for her kitchen, but also asked us to design and update her entry, sunroom and fireplace. Her kitchen was 80’s standard builder grade cabinetry and laminate countertops and she had a knee wall separating her kitchen from the family room. We removed that wall and installed a custom cabinetry buffet to complement the cabinetry of the kitchen, allowing for access from all sides. We removed a desk area in the kitchen and converted it to a closed organization station complete with a charging station for phones and computers. Calcutta Quartzite countertops were used throughout and continued seamlessly up the walls as a backsplash to create a wow factor. We converted a closet into a pantry cabinet, and new stainless appliances, including a microwave drawer completed this renovation. Additionally, we updated her sunroom by removing the “popcorn” textured ceiling and gave it a fresh updated coat of paint. We installed 12x24 tile floor giving the room a simple classic transformation. Finally, we renewed the fireplace area, by building a custom mantle and adding wood paneling and trim to soften the marble fireplace face and a simple coat of paint in the entry and a new chandelier brought a lighter and fresher impact upon entering the home.

Southern Living

Furthering her plan to enhance the room's architecture, Suzanne turned one corner of the kitchen into a cheery dining area with an L-shaped built-in bench that mimics the cabinetry. To keep the dining nook cozy (not restaurant-like) she surrounded the metal bistro table with slipcovered armchairs and hung a sparkly chandelier above. Using the same patterned fabric on the window valances and pillows throughout (Montmartre in Clay/Blue from her own collection for Lee Jofa; leejofa.com), Suzanne introduced color and life to the kitchen without taking away from the all-white effect. White Painted Maple Wood Walk-In Closet & Dressing Room, Westchester County, NY

We built this stunning dressing room in maple wood with a crisp white painted finish. The space features a bench radiator cover, hutch, center island, enclosed shoe wall with numerous shelves and cubbies, abundant hanging storage, Revere Style doors and a vanity. The beautiful marble counter tops and other decorative items were supplied by the homeowner. The Island has deep velvet lined drawers, double jewelry drawers, large hampers and decorative corbels under the extended overhang. The hutch has clear glass shelves, framed glass door fronts and surface mounted LED lighting. The dressing room features brushed chrome tie racks, belt racks, scarf racks and valet rods.

By eliminating partitions and creating a more functional, open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation. The wide plank salvaged pine floors, the antique french dining table, as well as the Galbraith & Paul drum pendant and the salvaged antique glass monopoint track pendants all help to provide a warmth to the crisp detailing. Homeowner wanted more natural light in the kitchen. Eliminate the tight opening between the kitchen and family room. Create an elegant, clean, modern look with marble counter tops. Add more drawers and tall storage. Build the refrigerator into the wall cabinetry. Single window was replaced with a triple unit, allowing natural light to flow through kitchen. Under-cabinet LED lights installed for energy efficiency. Dove White cabinets coupled with Calcutta Gold marble and Crackle White subway tile brought all the elegance the homeowner wanted to achieve.

An intimate understanding of the clients led to the immaculate renovation of this Baltimore County project by Penza Bailey Architects. After conducting a feasibility study to assist the clients in selecting the right home, the firm got to work, removing traditional trim and dated finishes to craft a contemporary retreat. In addition to cosmetic upgrades, the home received a four-foot addition to expand the living and dining rooms, now with expansive windows overlooking the new resort style pool, cabana, and complementing pool house perfect for summer gatherings or solo swims. Inside, a four-foot expansion enhances the open-concept floor plan. Contemporary finishes, like the wide plank flooring, outfit the more casual office located in the pool house and complement the main home’s aesthetic.
