Ann Lowengart Interiors collaborated with Field Architecture and Dowbuilt on this dramatic Sonoma residence featuring three copper-clad pavilions connected by glass breezeways. The copper and red cedar siding echo the red bark of the Madrone trees, blending the built world with the natural world of the ridge-top compound. Retractable walls and limestone floors that extend outside to limestone pavers merge the interiors with the landscape. To complement the modernist architecture and the client's contemporary art collection, we selected and installed modern and artisanal furnishings in organic textures and an earthy color palette.

This church sits on a property that is approximately one acre in size that is located in a suburban setting in Baltimore County. I designed a new planting plan for much of the property and installed much of it along with the assistance of others. Formerly the property was mainly lawn. I designed plantings around the new addition and the original buildings as well. The plantings consisted of dozens of mostly native trees (native MD’s piedmont plant community) and flowering perennials and grasses. This garden is now over twenty years old. 15 to 20' Tall. 15' Wide. Filtered to Full Sun. Attractive foliage with burgundy red coloring turns brilliant scarlet in fall. Interesting blackish red bark provides striking interest in winter. Slender, airy tree well-suited for use as a small lawn tree or for patios and entryways. One of the hardiest of Japanese maples, with good sun tolerance. Deciduous.

She also suffers from a lung disease that sometimes leaves her less mobile and able to head out to pursue this passion. A garden to take pictures in, even when you're not up to heading further out into the world. That was the main goal of this garden. With limited means and the use of affordable materials we created a wheel chair friendly garden that offers ample space for both human and wild life.
