We designed a wide custom pergola with closely-spaced purlins that will provide a good amount of shade over the patio. We tied the pergola into the side of the house across the center and along one side of the U-shaped area. The home is two stories at both of these points. On the third side, however, there is not a second story. The roof of a single-story garage slopes down toward the patio. Mounting that side of the pergola through the garage roof was our solution.

As a conceptual urban infill project, the Wexley is designed for a narrow lot in the center of a city block. The 26’x48’ floor plan is divided into thirds from front to back and from left to right. In plan, the left third is reserved for circulation spaces and is reflected in elevation by a monolithic block wall in three shades of gray. Punching through this block wall, in three distinct parts, are the main levels windows for the stair tower, bathroom, and patio. The right two-thirds of the main level are reserved for the living room, kitchen, and dining room. At 16’ long, front to back, these three rooms align perfectly with the three-part block wall façade. It’s this interplay between plan and elevation that creates cohesion between each façade, no matter where it’s viewed. Given that this project would have neighbors on either side, great care was taken in crafting desirable vistas for the living, dining, and master bedroom. This home is in Noe Valley, a highly desirable and growing neighborhood of San Francisco. As young highly-educated families move into the area, we are remodeling and adding on to the aging homes found there. This project remodeled the entire existing two story house and added a third level, capturing the incredible views toward downtown. The design features integral color stucco, zinc roofing, an International Orange staircase, eco-teak cabinets and concrete counters. A flowing sequence of spaces were choreographed from the entry through to the family room.

There are renovations, and then there are transformations, which our team and architects produced with this 100-year-old stone home in Wynnewood, Pa. The project included complete renovations to the two main living floors, and renovations to the third floor as well. Augmenting the custom trim details, custom cabinetry throughout, new kitchen, bathrooms and floors, is a completely new electrical system, plumbing system and HVAC systems.
