My clients had outgrown their builder’s basic home and had plenty of room to expand on their 10 acres. Working with a local architect and a talented contractor, we designed an addition to create 3 new bedrooms, a bathroom scaled for all 3 girls, a playroom and a master retreat including 3 fireplaces, sauna, steam shower, office or “creative room”, and large bedroom with folding glass wall to capitalize on their view. The master suite, gym, pool and tennis courts are still under construction, but the girls’ suite and living room space are complete and dust free. Each child’s room was designed around their preference of color scheme and each girl has a unique feature that makes their room truly their own. The oldest daughter has a secret passage hidden behind what looks like built in cabinetry. The youngest daughter wanted to “swing”, so we outfitted her with a hanging bed set in front of a custom mural created by a Spanish artist. The middle daughter is an elite gymnast, so we added monkey bars so she can cruise her room in style. The girls’ bathroom suite has 3 identical “stations” with abundant storage. Cabinetry in black walnut and peacock blue and white quartz counters with white marble backsplash are durable and beautiful. Two shower stalls, designed with a colorful and intricate tile design, prevent bathroom wait times and a custom wall mural brings a little of the outdoors in.

Best of Houzz Kitchen Design 2016 winner. A custom kitchen remodel was one of the final projects for this beautiful Georgian Century Home. All the details were part of the effort to maintain the feel of an old kitchen but with all the most current conveniences. Notice the glass cabinet hung in front of a window, granite counter top repeated as the back splash, porcelain tiles that mimic wood and marble on the floor, a stunning island light and the coffered ceiling.

Premium 12 volt Soft Strip (SS2P) provides high levels of light with 80+ CRI warm-white LEDs, offering superior color rendering and enhanced color in the space. The 1/2" wide flexible copper strip, with an optically clear protective coating, is sold in 1 ft increments up to 25 ft with easy plug-in connectors on each end. Includes a 6 ft power feed cable. For custom lengths, smaller segments are available in 1 inch increments (sold separately). Use plug-in flexible connectors for making turns and custom configurations. At only 2.3 LED watts per foot, the system dims with a standard electronic low-voltage dimmer using the TEB-60L-12DC, Edge Lighting's exclusive electronic power supply. Self-adhering SS2P mounts to most smooth finished surfaces with the industrial strength 3M tape (provided on back of strip); some unfinished surfaces may require screw-in mounting clips (sold separately). Designed for indoor, open-air environments, SS2P includes a flexible aluminum heat sink to extend LED life. Fixtures include 5 year warranty.

Ed Bond. Solid Apollo LED. In this kitchen renovation, the owners wanted to bring more lighting to highlight the carefully chosen back splash and granite counter top. Here LED Strip Light in Warm White was used to bring bright beautiful light under each cabinet area throughout the kitchen. There were several jumps where the shelves were at different heights and to connect each section, the owners used matching Snap&Lite Interconnector cables for quick connections that did not require any soldering.

Under the gleaming vent hood resides a very useful warming rack that raises up and down - it is one of the cook's favorite elements in the kitchen! To the left on a support, her digital pad is ever at the ready with new recipes, and the legrand system also provides multiple electrical outlets and convertables on the under-cabinet plug strips. The tile image over the range holds great sentimental value, finally and artfully displayed after a trip to Italy those many years ago. Design by Lerond Design Studios; Photo; Dan Bawden.

Looking south, post remodel, what had been a bank of cabinets is now the main path through the kitchen. The stove (not visible) has been relocated to the north with its back against the new bar. The face of bar is made from salvaged fir sliding door panels that had been stored in the home's basement from its original construction. The fir floor of the kitchen has been removed and replaced with oak to match the dining room and living room. The fir was salvaged for use as the countertop of the bar and pantry. The original exhaust fan was removed and replaced with a Zephyr island exhaust with built-in LED lights (not visible) above the stove. The faux wood countertop and backsplash have been replaced with "Absolute Black" granite with a honed finish and Daltile 3" x 6" bright white subway tile. Combination power/led light strips were installed under the cabinets. An antique enamel topped cabinet (not visible) serves as a moveable island/landing spot and work surface. The center panels of the upper row of cabinets have been replaced with "mistlite" obscure glass. All of the cabinet pulls have been replaced with Van Dyke Restorers brushed silver "bow" handles. The hinges on the under-counter cabinets are new House of Antique Hardware 2-1/2" half-surface hinges to match the original ornamental butt hinges. The shape of the arched wall between the kitchen and dining room matches the wall between the dining room and living room. Two vintage light fixtures have been installed. Closest to the camera is a 100-year-old wrought iron chandelier Annette found through Etsy. In the kitchen, a farmhouse style overhead fixture of roughly the same age was acquired from Northend Lampworks. Brick on the exterior wall of the pantry and chimney has been exposed. The new dining room closet is based on the design of the former hall closet that was sacrificed as a space for the fridge. The hardware (glass pulls) of the original closet were salvaged for use on the new closet. The original hinges were used to outfit new cabinets on the east wall of the kitchen. The hinges for the new closet are replicas of Half Surface hinges from House of Antique Hardware. The bottom grill was custom made by Gem State Metal from a pattern we created in Photoshop. The grill preserves the function of the cold air return that was consumed by the closet when the north wall of the kitchen shifted 17" into the dining room. The space beneath the closet is lined with black foamcore for visual contrast. The top drawer of the closet is outfitted with a powerstrip plugged into an outlet built into the wall behind the drawer. The power strip is used to charge mobile devices such as iphones and tablets, out of sight. Since the closet is only 14" deep, hooks were installed instead of a coatrod.

The clients desired an Industrial and Contemporary look for their new kitchen. The original town home kitchen was smaller in size with a larger dining and family room area.
Heavily influenced by the feel of New York lofts, the project started with strong and sturdy combination of metals, dark blues, woods, and greys. A softer, matching backsplash was added to balance and create a second focal point in the room. Expansive storage was achieved through multiple ceiling-height cabinets, double-sided island storage, and a sink facing open shelf cabinet.
