This residence is located on the banks of the Snake River. Drawing inspiration from the adjacent braided river channels, the precise layout form unique relationships to the site from each room, as well as dynamic views and spatial experiences. The sequence of interior spaces gradually unfolds to reveal views of the pond, river and mountains beyond. The skewed geometry creates shifting views between interior spaces and levels.
A three-story stair atrium brings light into the core of the house, gracefully connects floor levels, and creates a transition from the public to private zones of the house. The volume of the house cantilevers to cover an exterior dining area and spans to frame the entrance into the house and the river beyond. The exterior rain screen on the clean modern forms creates continuity with the surrounding cottonwood forest.

Previously, this yard was burdened by a typical boulder pile pool, that was heaped higher than typical, trying to hide the towering wall behind. At first, the clients sought merely to reconfigure the BBQ that was congesting the patio, but upon further analysis, they decided it was time to strip the entire yard, leaving only the pool shell. Bianchi’s solution introduced an array of four arbors to distract the eye from the wall behind, solving what the boulder waterfall could never do.
Additionally, the wall was painted a dark earth tone to add contrast and depth. This strategy enabled the wall to recede into the distance, while the agave blue grey arbors floated forward visually from the background. Previously, the patios were a hodgepodge of deck islands that were impossible to navigate, and were of insufficient size to arrange furniture on. A well organized patio streamlined the traffic flow and the living space, featuring a cast in place concrete fire pit and banco couch, as well as a new outdoor bistro, glowing with filtered light from the canvas shade sails overhead.
A turquoise glass overflow spa became the yards focal point, sharing the space between the pool and outdoor living. The striking symmetry of the spa and pot pedestal with regal cacti arrangement behind, flanked by the arbors on either side, created a stately first impression from the front door. This teaser was just a glimpse of what could not yet be seen serving as an invitation to explore and enjoy as the yard unfolds.

Perched on a ridge at the edge of a wooded expanse, this mid-century modern home was designed to embrace both the intimate connection to the forest and the expansive valley views beyond. The site—carefully chosen from the family’s 52-acre homestead in western Wisconsin—balances privacy and openness, placing the home at the meeting point of dense trees and rolling fields.
The approach winds through the forest, offering only glimpses of the structure. Upon arrival, the parking area is subtly positioned below the main level, reinforcing the sense of discovery. As one ascends the entry walk, the house unfolds, revealing a dramatic view through the two-story living space, anchored by a brick fireplace that extends from floor to ceiling. The asymmetrical roofline lifts upward, accentuating the openness and maximizing natural light.
Inside, warm materials define the interiors. Wood ceilings and floors, complemented by concrete-look tile, establish a natural, grounded aesthetic. Black wood-clad beams provide scale and structure, subtly delineating spaces within the open-plan layout. A wood lattice screen partially conceals the dining area from the foyer, offering both openness and privacy. The kitchen—designed for gathering—features a large island, a dedicated baking station, and a breakfast counter that catches morning light while serving as a pass-through to the adjacent patio. Two textured glass sliding panels allow the kitchen to be closed off when needed. Just beyond, a hidden gem: the home’s personal Tiki room, complete with a vintage mug collection and a full bar.
To the east, the central fireplace marks the transition to more intimate spaces. A wide stair, integrated with the hearth, leads to the lower level, while a library with a corner window creates a quiet retreat, perfect for reading and taking in the valley beyond. The primary suite extends off this wing, featuring a spa-like bath with a textured tile walk-in shower, a soaking tub positioned for dramatic views, and a private balcony overlooking the landscape.
The lower level is designed for family gatherings and extended stays. A secondary fireplace, echoing the materials of the main level, anchors a cozy living area with an adjacent kitchenette. Additional bedrooms and baths provide ample accommodations, while a hidden playhouse under the stair and a dedicated bunk room add playful touches for visiting grandchildren.
The home is a balance of openness and enclosure, modernity and warmth—designed not only as a retreat but as a multigenerational gathering place, deeply connected to the land.

This Toronto landscape design transforms a prominent Lawrence Park South heritage home into a private at-home spa and wellness retreat, recognized as a multiple award-winning Toronto landscape, including a National Award of Excellence.
The design unfolds as an intentional sensorial journey, guiding you to a lower-level terrace anchored by a plunge pool, falling water feature, sun deck, fire feature, and outdoor kitchen bar. Each element is carefully positioned to support relaxation, restoration, and effortless entertaining.
Blending the character of Old Toronto with contemporary materials and detailing, this multi-faceted backyard transitions seamlessly from a productive home-office to an inviting entertaining space, and ultimately into a restorative outdoor spa experience. The result is a layered, immersive landscape that supports daily wellness while elevating urban outdoor living.

Ready for life to unfold! This busy family uses the entire main floor. Having good sitelines to the living spaces from the kitchen was important. We created a better flow for working in the kitchen, and for using the rest of the great room. We relocated the backyard access with double sliding doors to be out of the way of the main thoroughfare.

This stunning custom residence, built by Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc., showcases a modern mission aesthetic elevated by luxury detailing and expansive outdoor living. The home’s exterior blends timeless and contemporary elements, featuring a dramatic mix of white painted brick, dark vertical siding, and natural stone accents. A dark metal and shingle roof, black window trim, and clean architectural lines create a striking, high-contrast façade with strong curb appeal.
Large windows and an asymmetrical, multi-level design flood the interior with natural light while reinforcing the home’s modern sensibility. A welcoming covered front entry, highlighted by a curved metal roof accent, adds a refined farmhouse touch.
Designed for both entertaining and everyday enjoyment, the outdoor spaces are nothing short of exceptional. The backyard unfolds into a private retreat with a spacious stone-paver patio, thoughtfully divided into multiple gathering areas. A dark-bottom, in-ground swimming pool with a curved water slide anchors the space, surrounded by lounge seating, a fire pit conversation area, and a covered patio ideal for al fresco dining.
Carefully curated landscaping—featuring decorative gravel, large boulders, and layered plantings—frames the home and outdoor amenities, enhancing both beauty and privacy. The result is a seamless blend of architecture, comfort, and craftsmanship—an outdoor oasis that perfectly complements the sophistication of this modern luxury home.

MODERN HEIRLOOM
A masterful union of Modern Tudor Revival and Spanish Mediterranean design. Perched high on a dramatic, sloped lot rich with exposed ledge, the home is artfully embedded into its rugged terrain. Natural stone in both structure and spirit is celebrated as a defining feature, woven into the architecture and landscape.
Inside, livability is paramount. The plan unfolds as a choreography of light, space, and form, with defined rooms offering comfort while connecting seamlessly to each other and to nature through thoughtfully framed openings.
This residence is a perfect blend of historic massing and details with modern finishes; timeless yet fresh. With its thoughtful integration of site, form, and detail, it stands as an enduring contribution to its storied neighborhood as a home full of both memory and possibility.

Recently, we embarked on a design project to redesign the entry landscaping with the timeless beauty of a Japanese garden, emphasizing Tsukiyama earth mounding. This technique, which involves sculpting gentle, rolling hills to reflect natural landscapes, brought a new dimension of tranquility and depth to the space.
By integrating a minimalist planting aesthetic and organic, dissolving lines, we achieved a seamless fusion of serenity with modern sophistication. The transformed entryway now greets visitors with unfolding views that perfectly complements the home’s treehouse views into Nichols Arboretum.

These clients wanted a landscape that had a sense of flow, of unfolding, of mysteries revealed. They love art and were open to ideas beyond the traditional themes, and so the swirls and circles of artist Sonia Delaunay, became the inspiration for this gorgeous coastal property in Cohasset, MA.
This garden was inspired by the art of Sonia Delaunay. Along the entire length of the house we made a sweeping serpentine stone wall that swerves around like a great dragon tail. In front of it are deep beds filled with Euphorbia, Lavender, Geranium, Coreopsis, Salvia, and Hakonechloa grass. They sing with blues, purples and yellows, the homeowners’ favorite colors.
Panicum, sedum, Russian sage and Rudbeckia.

Framed by mature trees and nestled within Sarasota’s historic McClellan Park, Sunset Place is a home shaped by a deep understanding of, and sensibility for, its setting—reflecting the charm of the neighborhood, the rhythm of downtown living, and the client’s vision of entertaining, connection, and family life. Every decision—from site strategy to spatial flow—was made with intention: to support a lifestyle centered on warmth, community, and a strong sense of place.
At its core, the project is a masterclass in leveraging zoning and code to unlock the full potential of a complex site. Though landlocked, the home lives like waterfront—offering openness, privacy, and expansive sunset views. Placing the pool in the front yard, within the 25-foot setback, redefines the entry experience. It captures the western light and sets a relaxed, resort-like tone from the very first step inside the gate. Paired with a rear-loaded garage, accessed discreetly via the side setback, the layout transforms the site’s limitations into its greatest assets. Architecture and landscape take center stage, while the full buildable envelope is maximized without compromise.
A natural rise of eight feet from front to back—rare in Sarasota—was embraced as an opportunity. Site walls function as both retaining structures and architectural elements, elevating the pool terrace and entry by over four feet to align with the main interior floor level. The result is a fluid connection between indoors and out: kitchen, dining, and living spaces unfold onto the terrace, blurring boundaries and enhancing everyday rituals as well as social gatherings.
Architecturally, the home is coastal contemporary: open yet composed, airy yet grounded. Clarity in the massing tells a story of the inhabitants from the first glance, while the interior planning offers spatial generosity and ease. The interiors echo this sensibility with a palette that is soft, natural, and tactile—serene without being neutral. The landscape design provides a lush tropical frame, softening edges and reinforcing privacy through layered plantings rather than enclosure.
Ultimately, Sunset Place is not defined by any single gesture, but by the way the home reflects its owners. Their gracious, family-centered nature informed every layer of design—resulting in a space that feels deeply personal, tailored for connection and ease, and perfectly suited for gathering, unwinding, and watching the sun slip behind the trees from the comfort of home.

As you walk in, the main floor unfolds into a seamless living experience. Walls and columns were expertly removed to reveal a voluminous, open-concept great room. Natural light filters through generous windows, illuminating layers of sophisticated textures and warm neutral tones. The thoughtfully integrated millwork subtly divides the space without disrupting flow, while elegant sconces above the breakfast nook infuse intimacy—creating a serene yet inviting atmosphere.
At the heart of the home sits a striking, oversized kitchen arrangement featuring dual islands: one devoted to food prep, the other to gathering and conversation. The islands are finished in complementary palettes—one light, one dark—mirroring the balance of materials and colors across the open floor plan. This innovative layout fosters community and showcases design depth through thoughtful texture layering, from stone countertops to artisanal hardware.
Swatch’s signature layering approach brings dimension and warmth throughout these interconnected rooms. Subtle pops of earthy hues alongside jewel-tone accents are woven through upholstery, decorative lighting, and artwork. Organic elements like wood flooring and natural stone surfaces reinforce the Modern European aesthetic: clean lines with a lived-in elegance, where each material choice feels intentional and inviting .
Styled to feel luxurious yet approachable, the space features a discussed blend of classic European elegance and contemporary comfort. Plush fabrics—such as velvet cushions and soft linens—contrast simple, modern furniture silhouettes. Freestanding lantern-style pendants and delicate sconces enhance ambiance throughout, while curated décor from different European influences tells a rich, nuanced design story.

A majestic addition to a modest cape home
Tucked into a tree-lined street in Rockland County, this once-modest gambrel cape was reimagined to meet the evolving needs of a growing family while preserving its familiar charm. The transformation includes a new two-car garage with a gambrel-roofed addition above, a welcoming front porch, and a complete interior and exterior renovation. Together, these elements bring a new sense of balance, presence, and grace — a modern evolution of classic suburban form.
Inside, walls were opened and rooms reconnected to invite light and ease of movement. The kitchen, once small and uninviting, now anchors the first floor — a warm and generous hub where family life unfolds from morning to night. Living, dining, and work spaces flow naturally, supporting both connection and quiet.
Above the new garage, a serene primary suite offers retreat and rhythm, gently elevated above the hum of daily life. With its expanded front porch, refined roofline, and carefully layered materials, the home feels renewed yet rooted — a timeless composition of family, comfort, and place.

New wood shutters are bi-folding meaning they unfold and cover the full window as they were originally. New period colors placed correctly gives this house the appearance it was meant to have.
