Set in the suburbs of Dallas, this custom-built home has great bones, but it's southern-traditional style and décor did not fit the taste of its new homeowners. Family spaces and bedrooms were curated to allow for transition as the family grows. Unpretentious and inviting, these spaces better suit their lifestyle. The living room was updated with refreshing, high-contrast paint, and modern lighting. A low-rise and deep seat sectional allows for lounging, cuddling, as well as pillow fort making. Toys are out of site in large wicker baskets, and fragile decorative objects are placed high on shelves, making this cozy space perfect for entertaining and playing.

He commissioned architect Matthew Stratton, interior designer Jennifer Corredor, builder Denis Savoie and landscape architect Craig Reynolds to create his dream home. The plan: to set the stage for his proposal to then girlfriend, Judy, and embark on a new phase of his life. Embracing a modern take on the Key West style famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses and laid-back attitude, Corredor designed a simple, elegant and unpretentious interior scheme for this 3,900-square-foot home. A tropical sensation flows freely with natural materials and a color palette that reflect the island’s backdrop of sandy beaches, brilliant skies and cresting ocean waves. Polished white-glass tile flooring downstairs contrasts with African teak wood flooring upstairs, while cherry wood paneling and custom wall treatments create texture. To the breezy blue and white theme throughout, the designer added a zest of coral, inspired by the Royal Poinciana tree that frames the arbor by the pool. “The whole idea with ocean hues and wood tones is to emulate the surroundings,” Corredor says. “I think these elements add character to a space, as well as warmth.” The great room reflects Corredor’s light airy approach. In the living area, accent pillows with a coral-print fabric and an “Axiom Glass Thorn” coral-hued bowl, both from Coconut Grove Gallery, add a dash of color as well as organic curves that augment the lines of the sofa and contrast with the angular glass tables. This extension of a 100-year old cottage in beautiful, pastoral Little Compton created a comfortable, cozy environment for domestic life and entertaining – spaces that are as unpretentious as the simple original building. Unique elements include bluestone countertops and hearth slab, custom vessel sinks and tiles created by the owner – a talented ceramic artist, a freestanding two-way hearth, salvaged antique doors and hardware, interior sliding barn doors and custom walnut casework.

A unique combination of traditional design and an unpretentious, family-friendly floor plan, the Pemberley draws inspiration from European traditions as well as the American landscape. Picturesque rooflines of varying peaks and angles are echoed in the peaked living room with its large fireplace. This light and bright bathroom also holds the warmth of the dark wood cabinets below. The black tile and black handles accentuate the black veining in the marble counter top. The under mount sinks give a clean and finished appearance. The round mirrors mounted on the wall, are in tune with the modern faucets and lighting for a stylish yet unpretentious look. This is a simply elegant bath room renovation design.

A modern mix of unpretentious, yet luxurious design elements resulted in an awe-inspiring, sophisticated and lighthearted living space with a seamless transition between indoors and out. The extraordinary high ceilings and volume contributes to its welcome feeling. The public areas of the house, such as the kitchen, dining, living, and entertaining areas open up towards the backyard with sit-down white-water ocean views beyond. The main living wall disappears with the use of La Cantina pocket door, creating an 18’ foot-wide opening. The front door entry, on the opposite side of the home also incorporates a La Cantina pocket door allowing the ocean breeze to blow straight through the house.

A child's bedroom simply and sweetly designed for transitional living. Unpretentious and inviting, this space was designed for a toddler boy until he will grow up and move to another room within the home. This light filled, dusty rose nursery was curated for a long awaited baby girl. The room was designed with warm wood tones, soft neutral textiles, and specially curated artwork. Featured soft sage paint, earth-gray carpet and black and white framed prints. A sweet built-in bookshelf, houses favorite toys and books.

Our clients’ beautiful island home has a deep relationship to nature. Every room in the house is oriented toward the Lake Washington. My favorite part of the design process was seeking to create a seamless feel between indoors and out. We chose a neutral and monochromatic palette, so as to not deflect from the beauty outside. Also the interior living spaces being anchored by two massive stone fireplaces - that we decided to preserve - we incorporated both rustic and modern elements in unexpected ways that worked seamlessly. We combined unpretentious, luxurious minimalism with woodsy touches resulting in sophisticated and livable interiors.

Rodwin Architecture and Skycastle Homes Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States We helped the clients find a beautiful lot in North Boulder, then crafted this modern 3,300 s.f. house to be their dream home. The clients asked for a warm modern style home, with an open floor plan that connected to the outdoors and took full advantage of the rare lot. We sited and engineered the house for optimal passive solar design, while simultaneously capturing unobstructed panoramic views of the Flatirons from both levels. The home’s simple, clean lines reflect their unpretentious, easy-going character. The gourmet kitchen, dining and Great room are flooded with sunshine from the 9ft high ceilings and walls of glass. A gracious covered west porch flows seamlessly out from the Great room through a giant bank of sliding doors, creating a fantastic opportunity for indoor/outdoor living. The porch has solid cedar columns and Beetle-kill wood on the ceiling to create a warm feeling. On the ground floor, walk past the front hall to reach a guest suite and a rec room that is divided between a small media room for the boys and a north facing painting studio. Follow the stair to the second floor where you’ll immediately be presented with a stunning view from the open study and balcony. All the bedrooms get a south facing Flatiron view and the master has its own private balcony. The owners wanted the HERS 37 house to be as green as possible, and the house has tiny energy and water bills as well as a healthy indoor air environment. It features solar photovoltaic panels, Energy Star fiberglass windows, foam insulation, LED lights, Watersense plumbing fixtures, a 96% efficient furnace & zero-VOC finishes.
