Sited in a well-treed urban neighbourhood, the early 20th century yellow-brick structure was completely stripped down and refitted with steel sash windows, bleached oak floors and cabinetry, and elements in steel, oak and glass. The front facade was completely restored but untouched in its original design because of the houses designation as an Ontario Heritage Property

Before photo: This is the rear before the addition. We met with the historic review board. One of their requests was to leave the 2nd story enclosed sleeping porch untouched. Our designer fit the 1st floor addition under the sunroom. The addition is modest at 96 square feet, but was enough to expand and update the original pink kitchen!

The main cabinets and layout of the kitchen was left untouched, but we added a unique glass tile backsplash, new cabinetry configuration in the peninsula, new overhead lighting, and new furniture.

The effect is intentional. Nothing feels placed for display alone. Everything serves experience. At the heart of the redesign is a subtle but powerful philosophy: beauty should be lived with, not observed from afar. Pizzale rejects the outdated notion that luxury must remain untouched. In The Apartment, elegance and functionality coexist effortlessly. Clients are encouraged to settle in, converse, and engage organically with the Holt Renfrew brand.
