“Zoe (the homeowner) had a real vision for updating her 1926 home to make it her own and I was really excited to work with her on it,” remarked Murphy Bros. designer Cherie Poissant.
The 3rd priority tackled was a formerly (poorly) converted porch entry. It was cold, dark, and not welcoming. Removing the dark paneling and insulating with spray foam and installing new drywall really freshened up this space. Now it is a useable room, great for Zoe’s home office where her cats can keep an eye on the neighborhood.
“Cherie worked with me to review the whole home, assigning budgets to the different goals that I had”, explained Zoe. “Then I chose which projects to tackle first! But the real surprise was coming in under budget!”

This kitchen was really fun to create. The house is an old charmer in the heart of the city and ripe for updates and renovation. These clients started with the kitchen and will work out from there. We kept the old pantry space but added in a stained glass window that had been taken out of their home a previous year. The small touch of red, which is one of may favourite colours, provides a nice contrast with the two toned blue cabinetry. We ripped out much of the drywall to properly insulate and move old plumbing pipes into the wall that were previously outside of walls in older homes. This provided more clean useable space in the pantry. We kept the layout similar to what they had but streamlined it a bit with instead of the odd angles they had before which made cabinet space awkward to get to or use. We talked about colour and we both felt a bold indigo blue in the pantry would feel like a jewel of a space warmed up with wood counters and a softer pale blue/grey in the main kitchen area would feel clean and serene.

We installed two 12x20 units to create a more useable outdoor living space for the homeowner.
Another job well done from design, delivery and installation.
They love it!

Designed by Closet Factory Kentucky. This walnut wood walk-in closet is cohesive throughout the space, as the flooring, drawers, cabinets, and shelves have all been custom stained to blend seamlessly together. Just because this stained walnut walk-in looks stylish doesn’t mean it lacks functionality. Here we have triple-hanging sections made accessible by manual pull-down rods, ensuring that every inch of useable wall space is maximized to its full potential. Space-saving accessories like concealed hampers further this idea of combining form and function to help keep this beautiful closet organized.

New homeonwers needed a useable space. This space was to become the outdoor kitchen and patio with access off the dining room and utilty room.

Award winning hillside renovation with concrete walls and informal 'bocce court'
Design constraints: Full sun and steep hillside
Planting design: This yard started as a blank hillside that had a steep slope. BKLD provided consultation and design work to develop the hillside with a series of terraced walls to create a bocce court. The bocce court was done in an informal fashion with artificial turf so the client could entertain with the space and have the 'look' of green. This turned out to be a great low maintenance and drought tolerant way to add useable space as well as a softer view from the upper deck. Existing Oaks were all kept and designed around carefully with composite decking. The Oaks make for some great shadow play and is quite the dynamic space as the sun angles move thru out the day.

Located on a heritage-lined street in Melbourne’s Williamstown, a young family were seeking a contemporary home with ample room to grow. Benni Trajcevski of Achieve Design Group answered their call, creating the epitome of modern living concealed behind a modest façade. To achieve the long wish list including large indoor and outdoor gathering spaces to entertain family and friends, separate adult and children living and sleeping zones, and a pool suitable for year-round use, Benni has maximised every inch of the block. Seamless transitional spaces link inside with out. This flow between the indoors and outdoors is a key feature of the home, achieved through generous open floor planning and glazing. For example, large hidden sliding doors allow the pool to be closed-off for use in winter; acrylic glass panels link the pool with the sunken lounge, which includes a fire pit for year-round comfort. The inclusion of a courtyard and voids throughout create separate useable zones while maintaining the feeling of spaciousness. Orientated to the north and surrounded with floor to ceiling windows to optimise natural light, the courtyard divides the formal lounge area with the informal living area, while the first floor is divided into four separate wings for privacy and functionality. The interiors are detailed with quality materials and finishes to achieve a sleek and sophisticated aesthetic. Contrasting materials in muted tones, including tiles, steel and lightweight timbers are featured throughout. Corian and a moss green wall are unexpected features.

Our challenge was to take a new build and create a setting that says it isn't. Dramatic tasteful lines, great textures and material choices made this home a pleasure to work with.
Granite from the house was taken as a lead and pulled down as part of the stone mix into everything from the driveway borders to columns to walling and finally to the barbeque. Gentle but confident lines mixed with deep plantings and a lovely sunken backyard sitting area creates a solid,
well-grounded useable space.

Nicely landscaped back yard with xeric plants and crusher fines. Replaced with turf for a more useable area.

Our customer was tired of having a tiny food preparation space that occupied only a small part of their kitchen. We worked with them to make the entire kitchen space useable and the result is nothing short of an amazing change! We started with bulkhead removal to allowing cabinets extending to the ceiling. New Porcelain flooring was installed followed by Benjamin Moore custom painted cabinetry in the customers chosen colours. Beautiful quartz ounters were then installed followed by a mosaic backsplash to tie it all together. Stunning! Check out the before pics to see where we started!

This project is the definition of where the finesse of craftsmanship and structural brute must meet and far exceed client expectations.
The massive undertaking of excavating 700 cubic yards of soil to add a new basement below the existing structure took this 2-story home to 4,000 square feet. This now 3-story Victorian boasts 1,800 additional square feet of useable space including a third living room with soundproof insulation and custom built-in cabinetry, a wet bar, full bathroom with Waterworks fixtures and intricate marble tile, private office, laundry room equipped with a chute from every floor, and a gym & guest room.
Restoring, the original upper 2 floors of this stunning Victorian to its former glory was another challenge in and of itself. Rehabbing vaulted coved ceilings & original early 19th century mantels, renovating the bedrooms and bathrooms, updating the kitchen and creating an indoor/outdoor experience by installing doors in the former window locations between the dining room and patio were just a few key elements of this project.

Stealing a couple of inches from the master bedroom allowed the beautiful reappointment of the master bath without affecting the use of space from the master.
It remains spacious and large with the update of the fan over the bad and a beautiful serene color throughout. Also taking a foot or two from the guest bedroom allows a non-conforming space to become a useable bedroom with ample storage. Not a room was untouched in this beautiful Denver Square. For this New Brighton upgrade, Shelter worked to renovate existing kitchen and living spaces. The newly designed areas include bright daylighting as well as efficient and open floor plans, an example of a passive design strategy in action. Smart kitchen storage solutions for appliances keep the counter spaces clean and useable.

This stunning contemporary installation offers a fantastic outdoor space that is functional and useable all year long. We installed a glass roof and electrical wiring in order to add heaters and fans at a later time!

Starting with a multi-level, splintering old deck that didn’t transition well to the pool area - our goal was to great a more enjoyable and useable space where the homeowners can spend time relaxing & hosting poolside parties. We worked closely with the township to maximize the allowable impervious coverage for the property, which included reconfiguring all the landscaping to allow for more hardscaping. To say this backyard got a facelift is an understatement. Everything got some attention; from staining & sealing the concrete around the pool, tucking away the pool equipment, building an all new porch complete with gorgeous stonework & fireplace. Meeting the needs of the homeowners & surpassing their dreams is one of our favorite things, and with this design – that was exactly the case.

Locally quarried sandstone walls, steps, patio and pond. The design reclaimed a steep slope and made for a visually appealing area that becomes very useable. Simple plantings allow the wall to be the star. Photo: The Ardent Gardener Landscape
