The stately entrance to a meticulously designed garden by Trace Robinson. Anchored by a pair of stone pillars and framed by a wrought iron arch crowned with a lantern, the entrance invites guests into a serene oasis. Manicured hedges and a rich tapestry of foliage in vibrant greens and purples create a harmonious blend of structure and softness. The elegant wooden gate, slightly ajar, is both welcoming and mysterious, offering a hint of the thoughtfully curated garden within. Trace Robinson’s design marries the precision of formal landscaping with a warm, rustic charm, providing a timeless aesthetic that seamlessly enhances the home’s architecture.

This garden exudes a tranquil elegance, harmonizing modern hardscape with lush Mediterranean-inspired greenery. Centered around graceful olive trees, the design features a thoughtfully laid patio of large, smooth pavers interspersed with gravel, providing both structure and visual softness. Wisps of purple salvia sway gently, their vibrant blooms adding movement and color while requiring minimal water. The plantings are chosen for their beauty and resilience, with native and drought-tolerant species weaving a verdant tapestry that complements the warm stucco and terracotta roof of the Spanish-style home. Each element has been carefully curated to enhance the space's serenity while maintaining ecological balance—a hallmark of Trace Robinson’s designs.

This homeowner was an avid gardener who wanted to remove all lawn from her small front yard and plant it primarily with native species. She needed some help taking the existing plants and developing it into a cohesive plan that worked with the site conditons. The result is a densley planted landscape with mostly native plants that should completely fill in within 2 years time. This landscape is designed for year-round interest with evergreen trees, shrubs and perennials as well as winter berries, grasses, spring and summer blooming perennials, and the vibrant fall foliage synonymous with native plants.

A beautiful mixture of both transitional and traditional styles is combined to blend with existing antiques and new transitional pieces for a unique dining room. Gorgeous Teal hi-back chairs are accented with sliver nail heads that coordinates with a custom glass transitional dining table and pedestals. A 19th Century Rococo Iron & Smoke crystal chandelier is hung from a 14' silver metallic domed ceiling. Light is reflected from both the glass table and a custom mirror that creates a stunning look for both sides of the table. The room is accentuated with an antique multi colored antique tapestry , an heirloom tea service set and a vibrant centerpiece floral with purples, pink & white roses, complimenting the beauty and romance of this room.

A tapestry of plant colors and textures thrive in this Lagoon-side garden in Bel Marin Keys, Novato, CA. Entertaining and enjoying the views were a primary design goal for this project along with replacing the lawn with CA native and low water plants and a total renovation. The project includes a large camaru deck with built-in seating. The concrete steps and pavers lead down to the water's edge. I included a sunken patio on one side and a beautiful Buddha statue on the other, surrounded by succulents and other low-water, contemporary plantings. I also used Dymondia ground cover to create a natural pathways within the garden. Photo: © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design. Design Eileen Kelly

Vibrant pops of pinks, purples, and oranges intermingle with soft greens, creating a dynamic tapestry of color and texture. The backdrop of mature trees and climbing vines over the home’s rustic stucco façade enhances the feeling of a peaceful hideaway. This design marries structured formal elements with the wild charm of a cottage garden, creating a harmonious space that feels both curated and natural. Inspiration for an eclectic dark wood floor claw-foot bathtub remodel in Boston with white walls

The goal was to create a warm space that flowed from the abutting master bedroom. The rest of the house has a down-to-earth sophistication that combines antiques, rich textures with a botanical theme. The master bedroom has a lush tapestry bedspread full of different leaves randomly scattered across the fabric. This became the inspiration for the bath. Taking a random fern as a motif, I initially found gorgeous wallpaper with the ferns against a rich chocolate background. Concerned with durability in certain areas of the bathroom, I shifted the approach to be a custom wall finish still using the deep chocolate background in a matte finish and adding hand-painted coppery bronze ferns randomly across the surface. The homeowners wanted a vanity that incorporated a make-up area for her and plenty of counter space for both. In order to keep the wainscoting lines in check, the vanity section maintained the same counter height as the rest of the vanity therefore a custom height was required for the vanity stool. The wainscoting was kept relatively simple so as to find matching flexible moldings for the tub face. The ivory trim color contrasts nicely with the browns. The cabinet finish was selected to bring out the coppery-bronze topped with complimenting granite. Kohler’s Vibrant Brushed Bronze finish lent itself perfectly to the palette. The rich brown colors are offset nicely with ivory tiles which are accented with bronze and Sonoma Tilemaker’s Tantrum glass tiles.

A serene garden pathway, artfully designed to lead visitors through a living tapestry of vibrant roses, lush greenery, and graceful architectural elements. The winding gravel path serves as the garden’s gentle spine, curving naturally to draw the eye through the scene while softening the formality of the structured plantings. To the left, an array of heirloom roses bloom in delicate shades of ivory, blush pink, and rich crimson, their blossoms elegantly framed by subtle wire fencing for protection without obstruction. Each bush was intentionally placed to create a symphony of color, texture, and scent — a timeless nod to the romance of classic European gardens. On the right, well-manicured boxwood hedges anchor the space, offering structure and continuity. The vibrant purple blooms of salvia provide contrast, infusing movement and a touch of the wild into the refined landscape. At the far end, a solitary deciduous tree rises gracefully against a lush green backdrop of climbing vines, serving as a natural focal point that punctuates the garden’s rhythm. The design concept was to marry formality with natural beauty — an intimate garden space that invites exploration while maintaining a sense of peaceful order. The interplay between the structured hardscape, the abundant plantings, and the sweeping coastal views creates a garden that feels timeless, inviting visitors to pause, breathe, and be present in its quiet elegance.

Saturday June 27, 2:30 to 4:00pm | Bluemont Piedmont Retreat by Jay Graham, FASLA of Graham Landscape Architecture, with Ralph Cunningham, FAIA Nestled at the base of the Shenandoah foothills in Virginia, this 178-acre site, once used for agriculture, has been transformed by the current owners into an attractive country retreat. The expansive landscape surrounding the residence incorporates Modernist design elements while acknowledging the site’s vibrant agricultural history. Visitors enter the property along an extended driveway, aligned to perfectly capture views of the nearby foothills before meandering through a wooded area featuring a beautiful array of stone walls and mature oak trees that terminate abruptly in a clearing, offering guests their first glimpse of the main residence. Pathways, and terraces, encircle the home where a wedge-shaped entry garden beckons, drawing visitors through the front door. Other spaces include the Tapestry and Master’s gardens, which were designed to introduce a diverse palette of plants to the property, direct views, and provide an additional splash of color and personality to the outdoor area. Adjacent to the home and bounded by natural boulders found on site, a turf platform provides flat ground for outdoor games. Beyond the lawn, a newly established meadow completes the design plan as it draws attention outward to more natural aspects of the environment, a pond, and restored woodlands.
